Christmas wrapping, screme eggs and bingo

Guess what we did Friday night?

I fired up the yule log (excuse the messy armoire) and I wrapped the Mr's Christmas presents while he wrapped mine upstairs.  I also wrapped his birthday gifts so I'm good to go until the last few start rolling in and of course I need to get lists from my grandparents, friend and mom so I can really get moving.

One night last week as we were trying to go to sleep I said out loud "I can't believe Cadbury hasn't found a way to market their creme eggs for other holidays."  We thought maybe Santa hats for Christmas or turkeys for Thanksgiving.  Then as we stopped in a drug store out of town, I spied these...

That's right.  As if by magic, I saw Cadbury Screme Eggs, totally fell for the marketing and had to have one since those are my favorite thing on Earth.  They had green goo for the centers over the yellow "yolk" in the other ones.  Tastes exactly the same as the regular ones.  That should tide me over until Easter.  (Sorry, no dice for you caramel egg fans that I could see.)

We met a friend for a belated birthday gathering.  I was so glad to see the first peeks of Fall showing through...

I brought some BBQ chicken in a thermos thingy I bought and put them on Hawaiian hot dog buns and had lightly salted Pringles.  I told the Mr next time I want full octane Pringles, it was high cal day and since I don't eat them except every few years, I want the real thing.  Is it weird to say I miss the ones with Olestra in them?  I never had any anal leakage issues.  *shrug*  We had a nice picnic then exchanged gifts.  I got the ice cream maker and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home (affiliate link) book I wanted. Her dark chocolate and buckeye state ice creams are to die for (check your local fancy pants grocery store, they're carried almost all over the country now!) so I was so glad to see you could make all of her ice creams at home!

I also got a game and we played a rousing game of

That's right, Hello Kitty bingo!  The birthday girls both won 2 games.  The Mr sadly, won none.  B- o-o H-o-o.

Yesterday completely got away from us.  We got up at 7am and went to the grocery stores and stocked up. The temptation of the samples scattered around the store got the better of us since we were starting to get hungry.  One bite of a pumpkin pie tartlet, one bite of a mini sugar cookie and for donating to a cause we got  a free gourmet sugar cookie from a place I haven't had in ages.  It was SO good.  Oh I didn't mention we split the new Trader Joe's candy bar everyone is yappin' about did I?  *shrinking*

Can you say "overhyped?"  Maybe it's because I made my own just the week before in a similar recipe and mine were way better.  All you can taste is the dark chocolate, which is awesome yes but if I'm going to blow 260 calories on a whole candy bar, it's not gonna be this one.  I mean I guess I blew 130 but I did so much work in the garage, I'm pretty sure I burned it off.  Meh.  What a let down.

For lunch I thawed the Boudin sourdough sandwich rolls we got from San Fran, hollowed most of it out and made chicken meatball subs.  It was so good and filling!  With the innards I cut out, I made the Mr some garlic and herb croutons.

Then we worked on a birthday project that took a little longer than we thought and afterward we both hit a wall and needed a nap.  We woke up just before 6pm.  Oops.  We still had a workout to do and if ever there was a day I would've been tempted to skip, this would've been it.  But trashing a 3 1/2 year streak of exercise was not in the plan so down we went.  Because of the spray paint I inhaled before I remembered to put on my mask earlier, my lungs were working overtime doing Power 90 (original) and I was hacking through half of it which got my heart rate up.  Thanks?  So by the time I was done, I had almost hit my calorie burn goal and switched out a formal session with Chalene to a free weight session and burned a total of 1110 calories.  Not too shabby!  Then it was dinner time...

Garlic and herb pink salmon and roasted root veggies.  (Turnips and parsnips)  Roasted roots...I think that would be a good name for a vegan band.

Then we settled in and watched Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.  Classic.

What did you guys do this weekend?

    1. We're about to donate our tent, we haven't been camping in like 14 years. I kinda miss it. Yeah I think the screme eggs just came out. Heavenly but dangerous. I hope they don't sell 4 packs like they do for Easter.

  3. Worked and worked. But it's all good. It keeps me out of trouble. Oh, and on my way home from my interview Friday, I got to stop at Trader Joe's and then drive the 3 hours home! That's always a plus...Now if I could just stop buying those triple ginger cookies.

  4. Nothing exciting. Kind of dull around here, but that's ok. High school football Friday night, hand-washed the cars and cleaned the house Saturday, groceries and laundry yesterday. Blah.

Next weekend there's an "airport fun day" so that'll be interesting.

    1. Dull can be perfectly fine. We're approaching the season when we have something planned every weekend and long for the weekends we didn't have anything special planned. Enjoy your airport fun day! :)

  5. Went to Trader Joes yesterday. I checked and the Cookie Butter was on the shelf but I didnt buy any--Major victory for me. I just do better when that stuff is not in my house. It's always a major relief when the jar is empty, so why do I keep buying more? Well yesterday I didn't!!

  6. I forgot all about Olestra. Not a fan, yuck but Anal Seepage is my all time favorite side effect warning. Thanks for mentioning the leakage! LOL

    1. That is the best side effect ever and the fact that it was a crap shoot as to whether or not you'd get the side effect made them that much more fun to eat!

  7. After being gone all week I got to do more work! Fun times. Next weekend we're doing our annual visit to Yellowstone though, so the extra work now is worth a 3 day weekend there. We are going to try some hikes we've avoided before (okay well I avoided before)...so I hope my foot cooperates.

    1. Sometimes you gotta put in a little to get some off. We always said that "we're working to be off!" Good luck on the hikes, I'm sure you'll rock them!

  9. Friday I went to red robin and got my free birthday month burger ( simple burger, no cheese no mayo but I did eat the fries!!!). Saturday I cleaned and baked cake balls for an event at the end of the month and Sunday, we took our dog to the beach n my old hometown of Monterey, CA. It was cool and cloudy and awesome, since it has been high 90's for weeks! I saw those cad bury eggs ....my daughter loves them so I noticed them. Haven't bought any yet.

    Happy birthday by the way!!!

    1. Don't you love getting free stuff from birthday clubs and stuff? Yay! I've learned to space some stuff out and put my birthday the following week or the week before too so I don't have 20 offers I have to pick and choose from within 3 days. :) Thanks for the birthday wishes!

  10. Ooh, I have the Jeni's ice cream book. Love it! Actually I've only made the milk chocolate ice cream recipe so far but it was by far better than any other chocolate ice cream I've ever had. The weekend sucked...waited for the hubs to pass a kidney stone. Boo! :(

    1. I can't wait to give them a try. I'm waiting to get some ice cream pint containers so I can make batches and keep them on hand for the holidays to give as gifts for people who stop by. Sorry the weekend wasn't so hot. Hope the hubby is feeling better!

  11. Long hike on Friday, then out for dinner, which caused me to stiffen up from sitting on a wooden bench at the sports grill. So I made hubby take me home and posted pics of the hike on SP blog and FB while he went to our favorite local live music bar, which he found closed. :(

Saturday, house hunting. Drove by 20, emailed our agent to see 7 this week. Sunday, watching football, reading and a quick trip to REI for rain gear so my next hike in the rain won't leave me soaked to the skin.

I can't wait for your fall activities...they inspire me to get off my lazy butt and go do something.

    1. Your hike sounds great and I love that you're stocking up for more. We're looking forward to some hikes when the weather officially cools. (I hate walking in heat) I need to get on those fall activities. It's here Saturday! YAY!

  12. Ah, that Jeni's book has been on my Amazon wishlist for a year now! They sell her ice cream at one of the grocery stores we go to, but there's no way the husband would ever let me drop $10 on a pint of ice cream. :) Must make it myself!

I can't freaking believe you're already wrapping Christmas presents. And eating Halloween candy. I guess summer really is over...

    1. I've seen them for $10 in the stores and I guess she sells them for $12 in her shops. TWELVE DOLLARS!! That is insane. I could make 4 quarts for that price at home now.

Sistah, I count down the days to Fall starting on Memorial Day. I loathe summer. Fall rocks and I'm a Christmas freak. Yes, I'm listening to Christmas music already. :D

  15. Apropos of nothing in your current post...I just launched a top o' the hour campaign to help get my weight loss back on track. A little more movement in my day's gotta help, right? Thanks for the idea.

  16. Ooooh, thanks for the heads up on the Cadbury eggs. I'm a fan of caramel and peanut butter-filled, and i have my fingers crossed they'll have something along those lines. Otherwise, I'll have to go with the pumpkin versions.

I attacked my exercise and my to-do list this weekend and feel great about both. (Don't you love when a plan comes together?)
