Pros and cons

The Mr was kind enough to telework today so I wouldn't have to deal with the garage man alone.  This meant we could watch Dexter earlier than we planned.  For a few months I had these Wilton Meat Cleaver Royal Icing Decorations (affiliate link)  to usher in the last season of our favorite show.  I have these wimpy Trader Joe break and bake cookies so I baked up one each for us and then got a red Wilton melt to put on right out of the oven and when they melted, STAB!  Just like the Dark Passenger!

I know, we're weirdos but I don't care, I think they're cute especially for Dexter fans.  I almost pooped myself the last 10 minutes of that episode!

For our workout, I wanted to get outside even though it was raining.  I knew the park I wanted to go to had an abundance of tree cover and we wouldn't get wet unless it was torrential and even then we packed up the backpack with ponchos.  We had our water, bug spray and such.  This woman passed us and smiled and as she walked ahead of us, I couldn't help but take a blurry pic as we were both moving.  She had the most perfect legs I've ever seen.  She was probably 10 years older than me but her legs were fit, not a vein in sight, tanned and smooth as silk.  I wanted to scream "I hope you appreciate your legs because not to sound weird but I do!"

We walked about 4 miles and I was a little annoyed at the calorie burn.  It wasn't chump change but hell I remember when a walk that long and hilly would warrant about 1000 calories.  The pros and cons of weight loss I guess.  The more fit you get, the harder you have to work.  I was a sweaty wench.  Then as we were leaving, this dog was staring me down and I waved at it and it went batshit and started barking at me and pawing at the window.  Keep peacocking little man...no death by Boston Terrier for me, thanks.

We did see quite a bit of animal friends while we were out and about.  So that made for a nice distraction from time to time.

I love rainy walks because it keeps people at home for the most part.  No one wants to get wet but I love it. I love hearing the wind rustling in the treetops and the rain hitting the leaves over our heads.  It's so relaxing.  Of course then it makes the air a little more humid and by the time you're in mile three and want it to be over, you're a little "moist" around the face and neck.  Grody.  I guess like with everything...pros and cons.

Then we came home, ate dinner and watched The Terminator .  (affiliate link) Man, Michael Biehn was a hottie.  I know he looks a hardened now but to me, he'll always be Kyle Reese, my first man crush.

I'll take one biscuit in which to sop him up please!  Me-ow.

Oh yeah, Happy Birthday to my other childhood man crush, retired pro-wrestler Bret Hart.

I had this magazine in high school...I still have it...I may or may not have licked it.  (Then, not now)

Do you like rainy walks?  What animals do you usually encounter?  Who was your first on screen man crush from childhood?

This post contains a few Amazon affiliate links.  I'll try not to spend the dime kickback all in one place should you decide to buy from them.  ;)

  1. I love rainy walks too. So glad the tree cover kept us relatively dry. It's the humidity that got us.

I'm glad we finally get to see the final season of Dexter. Does this mean we get a cookie every week? Yum!

No man crush from childhood to speak of but Terri Garr was my first real movie star crush as a kid I would say.

    1. I'm glad you like rainy walks too. I remember that one time we got caught in the downpour at BP and just played in the rain. Hmm, we might, if you're good! ;) Terri Garr...she needs to get back in the game. She was a funny lady.

  2. I'm not a fan of rain on my work commute walk. But in a nice park like that? Sure, bring it on.

I keep seeing pill bugs (those gray ones that curl up into a ball when you touch them) on my walks. So I've decided they must be my spirit animal. I'm not sure what that says about me.

Childhood crushes? I loved Templeton "Faceman" Peck on "A-Team". I even had a really nice sticker of him in my sticker book.

    1. I remember those pill bugs. I don't see them like I did when I was a kid.

      Faceman was a cutie. ;)

  3. I have no problem with the rain. I would love to take a hike in the rain sometime, but my husband really hates being out in the rain. I'm determined to change his mind eventually. It has been a very rainy Spring and Summer so far. I enjoy the cloud cover, because I am allergic to the sun.

My very first movie star crush ever was... wait for it... Bill Murray. I know, it's weird. I was like 5 or 6. My teen heartthrob was Paul McCartney, and I used to kiss my poster of him every night. So, you're not alone.

    1. Just slap him in some lightweight material and bring a change of clothes and see if that helps. :)

I LOVE Bill Murray!! I think he's so cute in Scrooged, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. Then again I think Steve Martin circa Father of the Bride is hot so there ya go.

    1. Bret was quite the hottie back in the day. He recently let himself go all gray and unfortunately that business is NOT kind to the wrestlers who make it past 55.

Definitely plan that big ol' hike, you deserve it!

  5. Okay, this is going to show my age, but I fell in love with Lt. Joe Cable on South Pacific when I was a mere child. When he sang "Younger Than Springtime" to his little Liat, I just melted.

I am a big Dexter fan, but somehow missed last season entirely. I recorded Sunday night's show however. Do you think we can watch THIS new (last) season without watching the previous season first? Or do we need last season to explain stuff that is going on now? Spoiler: I read where Deb killed Lt. LaGuerta. YIKES!

We encounter two horses everyday on our walk, I named them Star and Blaze, they are beautiful and friendly, always coming up to the fence when we get close. I keep meaning to take them a carrot. Sunday night we met "Yellow Dog" (real name--BO) formally finally. He has greeted us before as we passed his house, he is never chained up, but is a big old yellow friendly dog and Lola loves him. His owners were out and came out to get their dog who had come out to the road to greet us (and Lola), they introduced themselves and their dog. I don't remember their names, but I remember Bo!!

    1. I just looked up Lt. Joe Cable on imdb.com. He died in February. I can't believe it. Real name: John Kerr. Now I feel really old!

    2. I don't think I ever saw that movie except in 5th grade music class and I'm pretty sure the only thing I paid attention to was Hawaii. I'll have to look him up.

As far as Dexter, I don't think it's mandatory but if you already know what Deb did then you can probably skip it. I would try to at least see the last 3 episodes if you can. Some of the best ones of that season and Jennifer Carpenter deserved an Emmy for her performance after she did the deed. I bawled my eyes out.

Sounds like Bo has a crush on Lola. ;)

  6. My first crush was Billy Idol. Oh man... "Eyes Without a Face" combined with that sneering poster I had on my wall... it's no wonder I still have a thing for English accents.

I also had a crush on Kiefer Sutherland during "Lost Boys", when vampires were still dangerous instead of sparkly.

    1. Oh Billy. He was awesome. (He just finished up a US tour the other day) I had the door poster of him on my bedroom door and when I moved on to the next crush, my mom put him on hers! LOL

  7. I don't mind rainy walks, but here lately it hasn't been rain it's been torrential downpours. I get the normal country critters and pray for no snakes. There is a horse farm at my 1 mile turn around. They have these Percheron's that do shows so it's always fun when they are in full dress prepping for a show.

I had a thing for Bret Hart and Rick Springfield.

    1. Yeah we've gotten a few good downpours lately too. I think I'd faint if I saw a snake.

I loved Bret and Rick too. Rick Springfield was my first concert. I used to kiss his poster every morning before 2nd grade. HA!

  8. I'm not a fan of torrential rain, but I do love regular rain. We get so little of it here that it's always kinds of a novelty which makes it all the better.

I had posters of Kirk Cameron and Jon Bon Jovi in my room. They were definitely my two big crushes, and I have to admit that OI still have a tiny crush on Jon Bon Jovi.

    1. I don't like torrential but I like the occasional storm that doesn't threaten property or electricity. :)

You're certainly not the only one I know with a lingering crush on Bon Jovi. (Not me but others. LOL)

  9. I LOVE your Dexter cookies! My hubby and I are totally hooked on that show, too.

The Color Me Rad 5k we did on Sunday was a rain-soaked event - it was 106 degrees out the day before, and I was afraid we would have more of the same heat on the day of the race. However, just as soon as they said "Go" and we left the start line, the sky opened up and poured buckets of rain on us for the entire 3.1 mile course. We ended up soaked to the skin, covered in neon colored cornstarch (which was now a thick, pasty consistency) and we could not stop laughing at how funny the situation was! I felt like I was 8 years old again, playing in the rain, getting dirty, and splashing in puddles. It was well worth the race entry fee!

My first big crush was Michael J. Fox. I saw him on Family Ties and later in Back to the Future and it was love at first sight. When I learned he and I had the same birthday (June 9) I just knew it meant we were meant to be together. Alas, that didn't work out. :( I also had a huge crush on Sting - I had the "Read" library poster where he was in the costume he wore in the movie "The Bride". Plus, I loved The Police, so his amazing vocals made him even more delicious!

    1. Thanks, I thought they were cute in a twisted kind of way.

Oh MAN, that would've been funny to run that in the rain. I mean probably a pain in the butt too but if you have to laugh at the silliness of the situation! It's worth it for that feeling of being a kid again!

It sounds like you and MJF are definitely soulmates! How dare he marry Tracy Pollen? ;) Oh lady...give me Sting any day. He is H-O-T! Ten Summoners Tales is one of my favorite albums of all time and something about his voice. Grrrrowl!

  10. I absolutely LOVE your Dexter cookies! I am so happy for the new season but so sad it's the last...

I do not like walking in the rain. I hate the way my clothes feel. I usually see a lot of earthworms then.

I think my first movie crush was Clark Gable. Yeah he was too old for me, but so very dashing in 'Gone with the Wind'. My first TV crush was David Cassidy.

    1. Thanks mama! I'm kind of sad it's the last season too but the writing from the 5th season on has suffered a bit so I think I'm ready for it to be over as long as they send it out the right way.

Ugh, earthworms. BLECK. There is nothing worse than walking on asphalt after a big rain (especially the first one of the season) and the ground is covered with them. *heebie jeebies!*

My mama loved David Cassidy too!

  11. Love Dexter! What a cute cookie!

Also, just thought I'd throw out that I met Michael Biehn 2 years ago on my honeymoon in LA. Went to this hole in the wall movie theater and there was a back to back showing of Aliens and Terminator that my husband made me go to. After the movie, there was 6 people from the films who came to talk to the group. We ended up getting a photo with him and having a short conversation. Michael Biehn was higher than a kite that night and not necessarily as handsome as he was in Terminator. :P Still a fun memory though!

    1. Thanks!

I'm jealous you got to meet him but dang, what a shame he had to be high. I'm not surprised though. I saw some recent pics of him and it's like life has been a little hard on him. I hope he's able to pic himself up though because I saw him in an episode of Criminal Minds a few years ago and he was really good!

  13. I haven't seen Brett Hart in forever. One year for the Dexter finale I made the "Dexter breakfast"...I found blood oranges for juice, cooked ham and eggs with hot sauce and coffee.
We also made a ceremony of having spaghetti and red wine and cannolies when we watched The Godfather once on Christmas day.

    1. That is awesome you made that breakfast! Sounds like something I'd do but I'd have to make hot chocolate since we don't do coffee. Cool ceremony for the Godfather as well.

I'm thinking of watching Steel Magnolias soon, I should color some Easter eggs or make a red velvet arma-dilla cake! Ooh, what other movie have food in them that I like! You've given me a project for the evening! HA!

  14. I'm all about rainy walks. When we first got Finnegan I would walk him rain or shine. There were numerous occasions when it would be pouring on the park path and we'd run around and play (since no one was there I'd let him off the leash) and would both splash in puddles. There is nothing better than the smell of springtime rain...it's so renewing for the soul.

As for animals, it ranges anywhere from deer to 13-lined ground squirrels to the occasional coyote (had one in our backyard not too long ago because we have a field on the side and back of us. Absolutely gorgeous creature!

  16. DEXTER!!! 'Nuff said on that one...I made blood splatter red velvet cupcakes to mark the occasion on our end. :-)

And you make me laugh - you may or may not have licked it!! Bwahahahaha!!!
