What I'm Reading This Week #21
Happy Friday all! I am beyond thrilled to not having to babysit seedlings indoors anymore. I know I need to babysit them outside now but I am going to have to do some serious research on how to stop algae and white mold because I feel like I tried all of the tricks and nothing helped. I can't wait for them to actually bloom. Well, my cantaloupe have flowers on them. I guess I'll have to get some knee high panty hose to hang them from on the trellis. I'll be keeping my eye on those bucket crops because I know it won't be long before critters try to come after them and when they do, I have insect nets waiting for them. HISS! So we'll see how phase two goes. I really enjoyed this. The won tons on their own were great but having won ton soup again after, well I can't even remember the last time I had won ton soup actually, was a nice treat. And I get the last serving today for lunch!!
ReplyDeleteI really liked it too! I felt like it did need a dash of salt but didn't add it and was fine and it was very filling especially for 150 cals for our serving. I'll definitely be making this again! Glad you liked it!
DeleteThis sounds so good. I don't have a Trader Joe's anywhere near me. I really do like wonton soup, but they never put enough wontons in there, and I know it's normally a sodium bust for the day.

ReplyDeleteAre you kidding, my favorite dish is General Tso's Chicken and I remade it (not breaded of course)! Our entire dinner last night was 631 calories and 1350mg sodium (balanced my sodium for the rest of the day to fit it in) for a big ol' bowl of won ton soup and a plate of healthy tso's chicken!
DeleteIf I had gotten my "usual" at Panda Express (2 entree Orange Chicken over steamed rice and 2 small veggie rolls) I would've been at 1500 calories and 2210mg sodium. It can be done and deliciously so!
I might have to move just to live near a trader joes! This place sounds magical! Do they do online ordering? I'm going to find out!! I am a Chinese food addict. My husband actually banned everyone we know (even in the video games we play) from saying Chinese food because it always sounds good! I am always down for some healthier Chinese!
ReplyDeleteI would totally make that criteria for a move. "Is there a Trader Joe's nearby? No? NEXT!" ;) Annie Chun's makes the same won tons, same nutritional info so keep your eyes open at your local grocery. Here's a store locator to see if they're available near you.

DeleteWe don't have a Trader Joe's anywhere near us. This soup recipe looks incredibly good and easy to make (which is a big plus for me). Now I just have to search for wontons.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you can find the Annie Chun version near you. If not, improvise, you never know what's lurking in your grocers freezer!

DeleteThe closest Trader Joe's to me is 10 hours away! I've never been but my aunt brought me back some cookie butter a few weeks ago because I had seen it on your blog. That stuff is awesome! She is going back in a few weeks and I'm having her bring me a bunch of jars of the stuff to give as Christmas gifts to friends. There is nothing like it where I live! This soup looks delish-I'll have to search for some mini won tons where I live. Thanks for the healthy recipes!

DeleteYou know, I think there's a website that holds a monthly contest for recipes that use ingredients from Trader Joe's. And the prize is a Trader Joe's gift card! So then the cycle continues. :) Anyway, you should enter! Totally love how doable this is. And much preferable to making the wontons by hand!
ReplyDeleteYum! That looks super comforting and warm! It's been pretty cold her lately, and all I want to do is eat soup. I so wish we had a Trader Joe's here too, but not so much. I'm lucky we have a grocery store at all!

ReplyDeleteYummy pics, as usual. I do the exact same thing with Ms.Chung's wontons, except I add baby bok choy and scallions; so good. I didn't know about TJ's wontons though so I might have to check them out next time I am close by.
