The Story Before the Bathroom Reveal

Y'all, it has been a ride. Why are all of our renos involving trades always held up?  Now I could understand the kitchen reno which began March 16, 2020 which is the week all hell broke loose.  The kitchen wasn't finished until July that year and it really had nothing to do with the pandemic.  There were quality control issues with two doors and if you think I was settling for lint sealed under clear coat and the same two holes caused by an industrial stapler on three remakes of a door, you're nuts.  We actually redid our bathroom in 2022.  Do you remember?  Probably not because I hated it so much I never did a reveal!  The deep ocean blue was a pain in my ample ass and for almost three years because it never stopped running.  We had white chair railing and water from drying our hands or showers constantly dripped blue and would pool on top of the white railing sending me into fits on the daily.  Because we'd gone through three different blue...

Hump Day Poll: For When You Have the Ickies

It's cold/Covid/flu/RSV season!  šŸ˜•

What are your tried and true methods to help move a case of the ickies along fast?

Well, my immune system has always been a hot mess.  A 7-10 day cold is never less than 14 days for me while the Mr is usually done in 5 if it's bad.   As someone who got sick no less than 2x per year but usually three (four if I really ticked off the universe), masks have been a God send to me.  The only exception being a month ago when whatever evil mold/dust and Lord knows what else knocked the Mr and I's systems for a loop.  (Multiple negative Covid tests)  My only symptoms were inflamed sinuses but a decreased sense of smell (none for two days).  No cough or anything else and this was exacerbated by fumes of stain, paint and all of that crap.

I drank a lot of water which did help thin congestion but I still ended up my usual 14 days sick.  Nothing ever works for me when I have colds (and apparently severe allergies) so I'd be interested to see what helps you feel better and move things along.  I've tried them all.

  1. I do think Neti pot can help but there seems to be a fine line between using that and over-using it. Wish I had better methods of dealing with ickies though, so hopefully more people chime in.

    1. I wish my nasal passages didn't protest so much to that thing! I think using 1/3 of the salt packet is the key though

  2. I don't do much other than drink a lot of water, bone broth, and take Zicam melts every three hours and that does seem to help lessen the time of the severe aches and pains. What does seem to linger no matter what is that dang tickle in the throat with the bit of phlegm that just will not come up for a good two weeks! Wearing masks has been great during the winter when that wind is whipping and my face stays much warmer. I'm a nerd and color coordinate mine. LOL

    1. There's nothing more irritating than that constant clearing of the throat and getting nothing "productive" out of it. We love wearing masks to keep our faces warm too! That reminds me I need to wash up our Snoopy Cmas masks!

  3. Chicken soup with matzo balls for kim chi ji gae (korean stew).

  4. I'm battling a cold for the past week. Started off as a sore throat, which I assume was due to the mucous. Now it's just congestion and exhaustion, though I do feel like I'm starting a cough. I've been doing hot tea w/ honey, Mucinex and some NyQuil, but honestly, I don't feel like much works. For me, it's all about just riding it out and trying to stay as comfortable as possible. It sucks!

    1. Aww, I'm sorry you're not well! I hope you feel better soon! I have hard time drinking water anyway but especially when I'm sick. I will say it did help thin things out if you want to try to chug for a few days and see if it helps.

  5. I love the throat coat licorice tea. I also take a Claritin d and mucinex d (green label). I must have eaten enough dirt as a child cause colds don't find me often
