Our Fall Haul from Trader Joe's

When Fall rolls around, Trader Joe's gets in some great products.  Some of them are repeat buys for us and some are new tries so I thought I'd share what we got on our Fall haul at Joe's.

This Riced Cauliflower and Butternut Squash Risotto was a new buy since I think it's the first year for it.

I paired it with an apple cider BBQ chicken breast.

It was pretty good.  I wouldn't call this risotto because it needs to be creamy to be risotto and this was only as close as cauliflower can get to creamy.  The flavor was decent but not overly Fall-ish.  I've got another bag in the freezer but will likely doctor it with a touch of berbere and maybe fenugreek to get the flavor where I thought it should be.

These Pumpkin Rolls are a previous buy.

Sometimes we're in the mood for them and sometimes we're not.  This year I decided to grab them.

I ended up making them on National Cinnamon Roll Day even though a hint of cinnamon is nowhere to be found.  (It should be, that would make them a lock for a yearly buy but I suppose better it's not.)  I sprinkled some cinnamon on top of the icing and it gave it more flavor.  You have to be in the mood for them so I'll decide as the season rolls around if they'll be in the cart again.

Our next purchase was this Maple Sea Salt Kettle Corn.

We had this over a few movie nights.

OMG!!  SOOO good!  The Mr loved it and I think we might grab a few bags before they yank it for the season to spread it out over the year on occasion.  I just wish you could have more for the amount of calories a serving is.  *kicks pebble*

This Pumpkin Brioche Twist was an impulse buy.

I used it to make French toast.

It was a little on the dry side as a bread so it was perfect for French toast.  I wish there was a little more pumpkin flavor to it, it had a more general Fall taste to it.  I would be mad if I got it specifically for PB&J's and for that I would recommend Pepperidge Farms version because it's much fresher consistently.  I used the last few pieces the other day for toast which I then slathered the last product on.  It was okay but wouldn't buy it again.  Too many calories per slice (190) for not a lot of taste.

My jaw dropped when I saw these Cinnamon Bun Cookies.

We had a serving the other night while watching Halloween.

They are DELICIOUS!  I might get another box before they go away.  They are soft and super cinnamony like the middle of a cinnamon roll.  The only bummer is how small they are.  They make you want to eat four of them so take small bites or you'll easily blow through the box.

Finally, a repeat buy...

I don't have pics of using it but I used it on the pumpkin brioche toast and I've also used 1 1/2 tbsp mixed in with oatmeal and it's heavenly.  Obviously, a spoon is an option but stopping would be hard because it's AMAZING.  If you have a good butter pecan, cinnamon or pumpkin ice cream, this stuff would be the shizz on top!  Duh-roooool!

FYI- The pumpkin (body) butter is back so grab some before it sells out!

What are your favorite Fall foods from TJ's or otherwise?

  1. The risotto was decent but definitely shouldn't be called risotto as it is really just riced cauliflower dressed up for fall. It is a great time of year to go to a Trader Joe's if you have one near you. If not, maybe you are better off without having access to that cinnamon bun spread.

  2. My fall faves are the apple cider donuts made an the orchard about half an hour from me along with their apple butter and dipping caramel for apples. SO good! This year they are doing drive-thru only with very limited items (20 on a list to choose from every week) where they bring the stuff to your car, so I plan on giving that a try on a cooler day in the next week or two. I usually kick off the season with a mini pumpkin pie from the grocery store (hubs isn't a fan) and that gets my fall flavors going. My absolute favorite treat to have on hand is those little Russell Stover's chocolate covered marshmallows, but with the orange marshmallow flavor. I quite literally can't get enough of that flavor. I like the marshmallow/caramel combo a lot too, but that carries through the holidays all the way through Easter, and the orange is only here in the beginning of the fall season. They sit in my fridge and are oh-so-good for a quick, cool treat.
