What I'm Reading This Week #37

Good mid(ish)- September Friday to you.  I hope your week felt short and your flop sweat was minimal.  We never seem to be rewarded with two cool weeks in a row so it was back to poopie temps and we'll be tipping 90 this weekend which I am none too pleased about.  Once you throw me two 70's days in a row, it's time to retire the summer temps.  Dems da rules. I got a few things done this week like steaming the curtains which made them drop about 1/2" but thankfully not drag the floor.  I finally got the dead flat I ordered from some chick on Etsy after she sent me the wrong thing initially and it took two weeks to get the right thing.  I don't know about you but if I sent someone the wrong thing initially and made them have to drive to the post office to return my mistake, I'd be refunding some money or expediting their shipping on the right box.  So I've got my two coats on the newel post after doing a little touch up on a spot I didn't see originally....

Hump Day Poll: What Takes YOU Back?

In a world that is spiraling down the toilet ever changing, and sometimes not for the better, there are small things we can do to create little pockets of nostalgia from a simpler time.  It's harder and harder to find things from your childhood and if you do, often they aren't the same.  (I still lament the death of the taste of Chef Boy Ardee boxed pizza mix.  Sigh)

But for me, there are a few scents that I can rely on that are still out there.  When we were dating, one of my favorite scents was that spray musk and I was tickled to still be able to find it!  One spritz of it and I'm ready for a night on the town with the teenaged Mr in his Iroc.  I was also happy to find Night Magic from Avon is still available and gives me that same feeling.  My friend got it for me last year and with as much as I use it (rarely to never), I'll have it until I'm dust.  (I did find the solid perfume compact in a bin and still have it if I want to be truly nostalgic!)  I remember when Moonlight Path from B&BW came out and it smelled so 'sophisticated' in comparison. 😆  When Mom passed, I saw she had a ton of those fragrances in a box that she bought for people for gifts so I took one and occasionally spray some when I need a boost or to feel her close.  Obviously, scent is a big thing for me and I'm grateful these scents haven't changed.

I recently made some lists on Spotify broken down by year omitting songs I never want to hear again but including some that weren't bad enough for me to turn it so I still know the words.  I want to feel like flipping the radio on and being taken back so that was fun to do.

I don't really have places I can drive by anymore.  Every school I've ever gone to is torn down and rebuilt or closed.  Every restaurant Mom or the Mr and I ever went to are either gone or are nothing like they used to be.   There is the apartment we lived in where the Mr spent most of his college years with me but it's not exactly a place you can sit and reminisce without people looking at you sideways.

I see Chi Chi's is making a comeback and we'll make that road trip when the time comes and reviews roll in

What takes you back?

  1. I still love to play the old arcade games. It'd be even better if we had our own arcade of course but I can play just about anything that ever existed through emulation and that scratches the nostalgic itch.

  2. Every once in a while I'll go on eBay and look up old toys or books I remember. There are certain scents and certain cartoons/movies that bring me back as well. I stopped visiting old haunts many years ago because it led to not good memories and feeling unsettled. So I'm not as nostalgic as I used to be, but on occasion something will pop into my mind and I'll look something up.
