Up and Down Weekend Recap

(Source)

Guten Monday Morgen.  My how da weekend flies, doesn't it?

Friday night I found out we're not really having Easter this year.  We're going to a restaurant (that I hate) the day before in an event room.  Seriously?  There are some crappy reasons behind it that I'm not going to go into but the one they're telling everyone is so the host isn't stuck in the kitchen cleaning up instead of enjoying time with the family.  Funny because 1) we use paper plates and disposable cutlery and 2) the hosts CHOOSE to spend basically the whole time in the kitchen doing the pots and pans and chatting with each other instead of being out there with us.  Sorry, Grandma...one more tradition down the shitter.  So yeah, I had a lot to digest then let go of over the weekend.  The Mr and I will just have our own little Easter...pffft!

Saturday morning we got up and around trying to figure out what sounded good for lunch.  We decided it was a fish and chips kind of day so we grabbed some of those.  They had a "spicy" option and when I confirmed it wasn't sriracha, we both got it.  I should've gone with my instinct to get one plain and one spicy.  The spicy had no flavor and all heat so I'm assuming it was white pepper which is good in small doses but is sure to leave you with a small bonfire burning in your gut until it reignites you on the way out yo' butt!   Not pretty, or comfortable.  Lesson learned.  We headed to an antique warehouse and ugh, so much junk.  I don't know if the hipsters grabbed up all of the good stuff when the first vintage craze came around almost 10 years ago but it's hard to find quality stuff.  I'm obviously going to have to go to a higher quality place (Midland Antiques in Indy comes to mind) or finally make it to Brimfield's show.

We stopped by a lumberyard to see the reclaimed wood section.  I was showing the Mr what I want on the ceiling to hopefully ease his mind.  (I can picture things in my mind and see the finished product.  I tell him and he can't see the vision, breaks out in a cold sweat thinking of logistics and does a mental "la la la...I don't hear you.")  When I asked if they recommended any contractors for what I want to do, she said they did and mentioned a company we're having come for an appointment in two weeks.  We were both glad to hear that and she answered a question or two...the rest being a solid..."I'm new on this side."  Well, you've worked there a year and when we saw you at a trade show you blanked out then too sister.  Training, please.

I took a nice long nap on the couch whilst the Mr watched Star Wars.  Then we finished up the Kevin Hart Netflix special we started.  Interesting.  Helluva work ethic but I wasn't crazy about when he seemed to imply that because his friends weren't with him in Vegas to keep him in line is why he cheated.  Allegedly and all of that stuff.  Just own it, dude.  You didn't trip and fall into a vagina because your friends weren't there to catch you from its steely jaws.  😒

I don't know about any of you but I was in utter shock to hear about Kobe Bryant and his daughters passing yesterday.  The Mr recoiled and said "holy shit!" and showed me a headline that said "Kobe Bryant Dead" and I said that wasn't funny.  (He reads some websites that are known for off sense of humor in the past so I thought that's what that was.)  He said it wasn't a joke and I looked it up and just sat there stunned.  I'm not a basketball fan so not a fan of any player, but I still respect what he brought to the sport and the millions he inspired.  So sorry for those hurting from his loss from family, friends to fans who have that void from losing their hero.

Sunday we had brunch and chilled a little.  I was trying to arrange for some friends to come to pick up our old couches since our new ones are coming next week.  We ran up the street and got our oil changed in both cars since we were a little overdue.  Then it was the last grocery store and time to come home and work out.  My inner thigh was giving me some issue and you all know I'm not pushing that one.  I tried to roll and release as much as possible.  Today I'll massage the heck out of it so I can get any scar tissue loosened up.  Then I made burgers for dinner while the Mr cut my veggies for the week and we watched the Grammy's.

What did you get into this weekend?

  1. It will be weird just doing a dinner like that, something we used to do for birthdays, on Easter weekend. So yeah, we'll have our own and they aren't invited! Have a great week everybody!

  2. THANK YOU! I have been to Midland Antiques and it is fabulous, but I did not remember the name. I now have it saved in my maps.

Easter. Extended family of ours goes to club for Easter. There are 10-20of them depending on the year. They have big houses, so someone could host, but they love the tradition of the club at Easter.

They reserve a room. They do not have to have an exact headcount in advance. Fabulous old old historic club (this one you might be happy to have as a tradition).

They live two states away from us. So drive-able, but a commitment. And I would really like to start going, to see them and also the tradition. But we usually have at least one kid home on spring break who is tired and does not want to travel (last kid is on year 4 of 5 year chemical engineering degree/program, out of state school the wrong direction from relatives. The older two also did masters, also the totally opposite direction, so we have had college kids FOREVER).

It will be very interesting to see what happens with your family and the restaurant. More may attend. Or it may be no one.

I host here, must holidays. And I do all the cooking with help from who is home. I have had very bad luck with carry-Ins. We did have a Chinese restaurant tradition for Christmas for a while.

I come from an area where people still have huge families (lots of families here have 6-10 kids). Not everyone of course. But there are some really big extended families. And most of them now have to rent a room, but do carry in style.

  3. That's too bad that one more tradition is going by the wayside. Regardless of the reasons behind the change, hopefully you can find joy in this new version of the family get together.

I went in to work on Friday (I'm on a 4 day week most weeks so I didn't HAVE to) and got all caught up so I had 2 full days off. I got the house picked up, a few dvr'd shows watched, and last night we went to see Doolittle. I liked it about the same as the Eddie Murphy one - maybe a little more b/c there were fewer cringe worthy scenes.

  4. I'm sorry about the change in Easter plans. That stinks! =o(
Now you can decide if you choose to go or not, and they can't say a peep about it since they have no problem changing plans/days.

Weekend was good and low key. Did typical stuff around the house as Saturday was a snowed-in day for most of the day. Ran a few errands on Sunday and worked on tax stuff. Worked to get the ice off the bottom of the driveway because there's so much water just sitting there, and had marginal success with that. Today I have an eye appt and will likely be my last appt with them as things have changed and I'm not comfortable with the service I'm getting there anymore. And I have to figure out when I can go see my uncle because I haven't gone since Christmas. Lots to get to mentally today. LOL
