My original fix for my laptop hinge that broke didn't work which is lovely to find out after 24 hours being out of service. I think it would work for stuff like when my point and shoot camera cracks like it always seems to do regardless of the model but not for a hinge that gets so much action on the daily. The Mr was looking up some potential fixes on YouTube, and we thought we'd keep that in the back of our minds if needed but it wasn't the plastic fix we needed. I remembered when I had to do some work on our umbrella stand, some stuff from JB Weld worked well so I looked to see if they had a plastic bonding kit, and they did. Plus the setup time was 30 minutes over 24 hours, and I didn't give a rat's butt if it was going to dry tan. That's what Sharpies are for. I let it sit overnight, and it seemed to hold but the main hinge still looked loose. So the Mr gingerly popped the back off to see if a screw was loose (shut it!) and sure enough, the one on that side was basically completely out! No wonder the dang small hinge broke, ALL of the weight of the screen was on it, and at the time it happened that Dell was only a year and a few months old! We put a little super glue on the bottom of the screw, put it back, tightened the other one and will do a screw check every six months to make sure it doesn't happen again. So irritating you pay an obscene amount of money for a gaming laptop (for the graphics card, not gaming) and in a year the cheap parts are already going bad on you. I've been through every laptop company there is and they all suck.

We decided Monday night to start reading our one happy years to each other because it truly does take HOURS to do. I forgot that we decided a year or two ago to highlight the funny or poignant ones then read only those but by that time we'd already read up to September. We started at almost 10pm and ended just after midnight since we started binging a few episodes of season two of You which we were not immediately impressed with. I'm not a fan of the chick who is the object of his affection this season and didn't care for her in The Haunting of Hill House which was 10 hours of my life I can't get back. I have no idea how they're making a season two of that. Sorry, off track.
New Year's Eve the winds were howling all day so I cracked the door a bit so I wouldn't have to listen to it. That noise annoys me so I'll have to remember to do that from now on because from now until Spring is always wind season. The Mr had to work so I spent most of the morning catching up on some stuff with the TV off and then went through Netflix to add some stuff to the queue once we blow through You. I added Marriage Story, Dirty John, The Movies That Made Us, Shine On and Kevin Hart: Don't F**k This Up (both if I get REALLY bored), but watched one of my favorite comedians Mike Birbiglia's The New One. I laughed through most of it and then there was a point toward the end where it took a turn into Truthsville and I actually started crying. I've never seen him go dark like that even with all of the medical crap that poor man has been through.
My desire to actually make a meal still hadn't come back yet so this was my lunch...
It was the healthiest thing I'd eaten in a week. My body probably went into shock with fruit. When he was off, we finished reading our One Happy Year from September to December, I made dinner and we watched a little more of You since there are ZERO good NYE countdown shows on anymore. I know 99% of people hate Kathy Griffin but we loved watching her on NYE just because the other shows are so commercial and ridiculous. (I forgive her this year though since she got married on NYE and with Lily Tomlin officiating!? Legend!) So that left us with nothing to watch but Netflix. I couldn't help being reminded of how we spent the previous year at the same time which was in a last-minute ice storm in Vermont after binge-watching a DVD of Secret Diary of a Call Girl. I knew the first season had Tom Mison's ass from Sleepy Hollow so that was a treat. But we also had no Dish Network, tried to watch the ball drop live on YouTube but they either lied about being live or the wifi was wonky because we were 20 seconds late.

Yesterday was pretty lazy. We blew through The Movies That Made Us but it was only four episodes. I made a big brunch, later we went for a walk at the park near sunset chatting the whole time. I started looking at potential vacation ideas then made dinner of grilled cheese and soup before the Mr hit the hay at 11pm. I chatted with a friend who bought an AirTamer off of my suggestion after staying cold-free for the first time in 10 years for New Year's Eve. She works in a hospital and has a new baby so she wants to keep them safe when she goes back to work.
It's our first solid day of the "everyday" routine of the new year. I have never craved vegetables and healthy food more than I do now. Basically from the 21st on, it was just utter food chaos, then from the 25th, we didn't even bother to exercise. I was way too busy baking, visiting, and something had to be cut. Unfortunately, that was it. We're getting back to it though it always feels like square one when your gut feels like lead trying to pull you into the Earth! We're going to spend January doing Joel Freeman and Autumn Calabrese's hybrid calendar so we should be thoroughly whooped come February 1st. I don't expect to be jacked but it'd be nice to have some guns popping through instead of the bags of dough residing at my batwings. When I'm off the regular routine, it helps me to have a calendar to follow. I absolutely need to start getting more water in. It's been badder than bad the past month or so. I haven't even been drinking tea...just a sea of dehydration for almost a month. Just so we're clear...those were not resolutions. More of thinking out loud of the things that have taken the biggest hit this past week which is, you know, everything. 😉
How's the new year treating you so far?

Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI took the beginning of 2020 slow and tidied up caught up on my reading. Gonna be a great year!
I am so ready to get back on track and I like the calendar you came up with - I think. That gif you have in regard to the laptop is just too funny. Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good New Year's Eve and Day, as we relaxed and watched a lot of football, and me reading late into the night. We took down the tree and decorations and it never fails to amaze me how different the bay window looks -- and how bright it is in the living room now that the tree is gone. The hubs is working long hours today and I have two appointments to go to, but it's pretty warm (around 40) and very sunny, so it'll be a good day to get the dogs out and about too as the snow won't be too cold for their feet. Hard to believe it's the first week of a whole new decade!
ReplyDeleteI like Mike Birbiglia too, and didn't know he was on Netflix. That gives me something to check out. Maybe tonight.
ReplyDeleteSo far the new year... just like the old one. I drove home yesterday morning, stopped in the city an hour away to return some purchases, checked out a new (to me) clothing store a friend recommended and found a couple tops I really like, went in to school and worked most of the afternoon, then went to the gym. When I finally got home (hadn't been home in 4 days) I had 2 pairs of jeans I had ordered waiting for me and neither fit so the search for a decent fitting pairs of jeans continues. On the plus side the 2 pack of leggings w/ pockets I had ordered also arrived and they fit perfectly. I'm so excited to be able to work out and keep my phone on me so my wireless headphones don't fuzz in and out when I get too far away.
I finish the year strong in terms of exercise - I joined a gym the week after Thanksgiving and have been going faithfully. It's so boring, but I've been building the habit. I've been working on water too. Next is nutrition, but unlike you I never crave vegetables. I only want carbs and sugar so I have to really talk myself into healthy choices.
I'm disappointed that I ended the month at the same weight I began it despite the gym sessions, but rationally I'm not surprised b/c I know that I can't out exercise a bad diet.
I hope your new year is treating you well so far, and the new weekend is right around the corner.
