I realize that title sounds super dirty but I was actually referring to holiday decorating, you perv.
Since recent studies show decorating for the holidays makes you happier, so people really seemed to have embraced that this year in our area. Not the stores, they're always early but people have been blaring Christmas decorations for a good 10 days now. I'm usually on that bandwagon but I'm giving my vintage turkey platter a long ride into its holiday this year instead of never even pulling him out.
Typically, this past weekend would've been when we got the outside lights up and maybe most of our shelves done up but that didn't happen. We're busy this weekend so I don't think it's actually happening until the week after...if I feel like it. Who am I!?!?
So where are you at on the decorating front this year? All decorated? Decorate little by little after Halloween? Christmas is after Thanksgiving! I wait dammit!

I have had an ingrained feeling that I need to be doing the lights right about now so it's really weird not to have done them yet. But my urge to do them early has always been due to weather, and given that we got the cold snap early this year I keep feeling like I'm better off waiting in case we get a lucky break "indian summer" day. Hmm, but then I should probably wash and wax the cars!
ReplyDeleteChristmas IS after Thanksgiving...however, this year it's a tad different. I'm in a house (after a condo) and have a real live fireplace/mantel I can decorate!!! The mantel is currently lined with battery operated candles and 'berry' garland (can be considered fall or Xmas). Usually it's Black Friday when the decorations come out, however, with Thanksgiving so late this year, I just may be tempted to scatter a few throughout the house/porch/yard this weekend....
ReplyDeleteI start decorating the day after Thanksgiving. Indoor decorations, then outdoor lights, then tree. MUST be in that order lol
ReplyDeleteAfter Thanksgiving. Always. I usually just do a tree ane maybe a strand of garland draped on the wall where I can hang my delicate ornaments out of harm's way from the cats.
ReplyDeleteI decorate for the holidays. That means Easter for Easter, Halloween for Halloween etc. So right now I have fall/ Thanksgiving up, and Christmas will go up after Thanksgiving. I think decorating for whatever holiday it happens to be makes it seem special, so I try not to rush them. If I start on Christmas too early then I get burned out by the time it arrives!

I enjoy this (every holiday/season) hugely.
I don't have an official time for decorating, although the past few years it's been Thanksgiving weekend. Our decorating has gotten less and less and we both are liking that. Now it's just really the tree with lights with a few baubles on the bay window. We've both said it's time to sort through the numerous (like ten) bins of Christmas stuff and give a lot of it away. What's really ridiculous is how many bins of gift boxes I have! Good grief, it's so many. But family dynamics have changed in recent years so I really don't have a need for them anymore and would be better off just buying as I go for the most part. We went from a 7 ft tree, to a 6 ft tree, to now a darling 4 ft tree that fits in the bay window and the hubs uses a tablecloth someone made for us to swaddle the tree and cover the bay window "seat" and it always looks really pretty. I look forward to seeing those lights. We used to decorate the whole outside of the house where planes could have landed there, but winters have gotten too harsh and we've gotten too old to do all the work. LOL
ReplyDeleteI just cleaned out gift bags, boxes, paper and gave to a large family who wanted it. (Also it could go in recycling).
DeleteWe are usually running behind in decorating every year. If I get a tree up and decorated 2 weeks before Xmas it's a victory. Ideally, we'd have the lights and tree up the weekend before then decorate the tree and house the weekend after. But it looks to be a cold one with the weekend after being warmer so outdoor stuff may not happen until after.
ReplyDeleteOur outside lights (which are all white) actually went up 2-3 weekends ago because the weather was beautiful. We were very glad because major snow and ice the next week. So rope on porch, four wreaths and backyard tree all done.
ReplyDeleteMy husband said we could leave them unplugged until after Thanksgiving, but it is a little dark and dreary, so we set up the timers and everything comes on at 5pm and Have really been enjoying them.
The inside stuff normally goes up the weekend right after thanksgiving. However this year we have a house FULL that weekend so there may be a delay.
I take the ornaments off the inside tree right after xmas but leave the tree/lights up for January and February.
When I was a kid - Christmas decorations went up on my sister's birthday (Dec 15) and came down on mine (Jan 7). Nowadays, my husband would start Nov 1 with the Christmas stuff but generally we hold off until Thanksgiving weekend. Given our traveling plans this Thanksgiving we'll either be a little early or a bit later than usual. First Christmas up north where it's appropriately cold for the season after 15+ years in FL so I'm really looking forward to the whole Christmas thing this year!
ReplyDeleteI start digging things out of the basement the first weekend in December to decorate the house. Installing the outside lights is very weather dependent. It is usually the last weekend in November or the first weekend in December. Since I always have a real tree, that decorating doesn't happen until a week or two before Christmas Day and things stay up until just after New Years Day.
ReplyDeleteWe usually start after Thanksgiving. I still have my fall decorations out and will until after Thanksgiving. There won't be much Christmas decorating this year as we are facing a major move late March to early April. After 55 years we are moving back home, upstate NY from southern CA. We will be within a few miles of the Beekman's, Lake George and many of the places you and the Mr. have visited. I am excited, exhilarated and petrified all at the same time. Anyway, Anele, you and the Mr. are most welcome to stop by and meet the doggies. It's all aboard the "Crazy Train", which is what I am calling this journey so late in our lives. We are OLD!!!
