Trim the Tree Poll

"Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree...how lovely are your branches!"  (Billy Idol  (affiliate link) version.)

People always have very specific ideas of what they like or how a tree should be decorated.  So let's take a poll to see how you guys like to decorate yours!

Real or faux?

Decorations:  Themed?  Color scheme?  Mish mash from childhood/kids ornaments?

Garland?  Ribbon?

Tinsel?  Yay or nay

White lights or multi-colored?

Blinking or constantly lit?

Topper- Star?  Angel?  Bow?

Tree skirt or nothing?

When do you put it up?

Outdoor lights?  Yay or nay?

  2. We have a fake tree.
The decorations are a mish mash. My mom has given me an angel ornament every year since I was little so there's lots of angels.
    No garland or ribbon.
I like tinsel but have never used it, maybe next year.
Multi colored lights with no blinking.
Angel on top (she's from 1972).
I do use a tree skirt.
Usually I put it up right after Thanksgiving. This year time got away from me so I didn't put our big tree up. I've got a couple little trees up and next year will definitely get the regular one done because I miss it!
I love outdoor lights! Our house has no outside outlets in the front so that is a project for between now and next year.

  3. Prefer real, but faux is easier so that's what I go with.

Mix-match of ornaments, and this year only cat friendly ones.

I like garland, ribbon, and tinsel - but don't have any on my tree

    Multi-colored, not blinking lights

I have a star on the top now, but I actually like bows better. I'm not a fan of angels b/c they always look to me like sitting on the top of the tree like that would be really uncomfortable.

Tree skirt - made by my mom

I usually put it up Thanksgiving weekend, or the week after Thanksgiving.

I like outdoor lights, and every year I think "next year" but never put any up.

  4. Real

Decorations: Mish mash from trips/childhood/kids ornaments

Garland - but I love the look of Ribbon

Tinsel - nay, we have a kitty

    Multi-colored for sure

    Constantly lit

Topper - I've had all three over the course of my life, but when we got married, my husband picked out a cute topper that is none of the above....

As per family tradition, I use a white flat sheet for a tree skirt.

When do you put it up? The weekend after Thanksgiving.

    Outdoor lights? Yay!!!!

  5. Real or faux? - Always real. I live in the Christmas tree capital of the world

Decorations: Themed? Color scheme? Mish mash from childhood/kids ornaments? - Mish mash of gifts from others

    Garland? Ribbon? - Neither

Tinsel? Yay or nay - Nay

    White lights or multi-colored? - multi-coloured

Blinking or constantly lit? - constantly lit

Topper- Star? Angel? Bow? - This year none of the above. I don't have any room. A Christmas tree farmer friend picked out my tree for me. It arrived with a height of 9'11" and I have 8' ceilings. The tree is brushing the ceiling after cutting it down. My friends say it looks like it is going through my ceiling.

Tree skirt or nothing? - Red velvet tree skirt

When do you put it up? - I try for a week before, but this year I just finished yesterday

Outdoor lights? Yay or nay? - Yay and multi-coloured

  6. Real or faux? - Faux

Decorations: Themed? Color scheme? Mish mash from childhood/kids ornaments? - Mish mash! I love having a variety and have some that are favorites that I always want to see. :)

    Garland? Ribbon? - Neither

Tinsel? Yay or nay - Nay. It looks pretty, and I have fond memories of putting it on when I was a kid...but it's a pain to clean up!

White lights or multi-colored? - White lights

Blinking or constantly lit? - Constantly lit

Topper- Star? Angel? Bow? - Star

Tree skirt or nothing? - Tree skirt

When do you put it up? - Usually the day after Thanksgiving. It was a little later this year now that I have a toddler keeping me busy.

Outdoor lights? Yay or nay? - I love outdoor lights, but we don't have any on or around our house. I wouldn't even know where to begin to put them on! We just moved this year, too, so we don't have any bushes or railings that we could put lights on. I'm gradually building up our outdoor decor. This year we bought a snowman welcome sign and a wreath. I plan on getting lit decorations (tree, deer, etc.) down the road.

  7. Real or faux? - Faux, when I put it up. This year it's just a lantern filled with colored lights. But, a real wreath on the front door.

Decorations: Themed? Color scheme? Mix of ornaments bought on trips, some that were gifts and my favorites are ones that belonged to my grandparents and were in my attic when I moved into the house.

    Garland? Ribbon? - Garland usually

Tinsel? Yay or nay - Nay.

    White lights or multi-colored? - Multi-color lights

Blinking or constantly lit? - I can't deal with the blinking - so lit constantly

Topper- Star? Angel? Bow? - An angel that my Dad bought me years ago as my thanks for being Santa's elf and helping with the shopping for my Mom.

Tree skirt or nothing? - Tree skirt

When do you put it up? - If I put it up it's usually the first or second week in December. But it has to be December. I refuse to put up anything Christmas in November. And I leave everything up until the wise men arrive.

Outdoor lights? Yay or nay? - Of course. I'm a Baltimoron. I have to have lights, hon. Although they are nothing compared to 34th Street's display. http://www.christmasstreet.com/

  8. Real or faux? Fake now- we used to do real.

    Garland? Ribbon? Neither

    Tinsel? Yay or nay Nope

White lights or multi-colored? White this year- used to be multi

    Blinking or constantly lit? blinking

Topper- Star? Angel? Bow? Star- lit- white

    Tree skirt or nothing?
Tree skirt- new but looks vintage

When do you put it up? Weekend of Thanksgiving

Outdoor lights? Yay or nay? Yes, but sadly not this year.

  9. Real or faux? I've only had faux, but I like both

Decorations: The past few years it's been lights only. When I do put up ornaments, it's homemade ones from when I was a kid and ones my mom made, and then it's a an ornament for every year the hubs and I have been together. All the Rudolph, Frosty, and Santa Claus characters too.

Garland? Ribbon? When I lived at home it was garland; now I don't use it. Mom used to do garland every year (and you bet your sweet bippy it was as even as could be) then she switched to ribbon when she got the huge tree for her townhouse.

Tinsel? Yay or nay I think we had this as a kid, but it was looong ago.

White lights or multi-colored? I've always been a multi girl, but I have to say, I'm more and more in love with white and blue lights.

Blinking or constantly lit? Mine are constantly lit, but I do like the kind where you can control the blink -- a slow blink is nice.

Topper- Star? Angel? Bow? Usually an angel but we had a star when I was young if I recall.

Tree skirt or nothing? Big trees - skirts; small tree like the one I have now -- decorative holiday tablecloth

When do you put it up? Earliest is Thanksgiving weekend, latest is usually the weekend after that.

Outdoor lights? Yay or nay? Love outdoor lights, but we didn't get to them this year before the first storm came through.
