Movie night and no love for the Mr

Happy Wednesday all!

It was a pretty low key Tuesday.  Actually, super low key.  I can barely recall much that would put a tingle in yer jingle.  We watched American Ninja Warrior off the DVR and all either of us can see now are blown Achilles on the warped wall.  Thanks Dr. B!   It is inspiring but I just can't imagine putting my body through that.  Though I'd assume someone on there would look at what I've put my body through and say they can't imagine doing that either, to which I'd have to answer "touche."

We did at an home circuit with some booty shakin' and then had dinner.

Yes, that's chili in 90 degree heat but since I make it a practice not to go outside, we're not really affected by it much in our indoor igloo.

We did rent the movie Criminal (affiliate link) with Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones.  I have to say it was pretty darn good but a little violent for my liking in the beginning.  But it got much less so as it went on and I rather liked Costner in this role sans the grunting.  The little girl?  OMG, so adorable.  Ryan Reynolds must like the whole mind transfer stuff since he was in this and Self/less (affiliate link)  We were both happy to see Colin Salmon from Limitless in there too for a short stint.  Worth a rent, I'd say if you like action packed movies.  If you don't like violence, you'll know when to look away, at least there weren't any surprises on that front.

Then it was a quick trip to the recycle bins, to return the movie and the post office to mail a special lady's birfday gift.  Since we got tired of hearing the same pop songs on Music Choice, we've been listening mostly to ambient and old school jazz most of the day.  I wanted to listen to some of the pop songs I had the Mr download while we were out last night and when we got in the car, he had his old band's album on.  I said "feeling nostaglic?" as I searched for the playlist he made of my pop stuff.  When I found it, the first song started..."Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber.  (*hangs head in shame*)  He yelled "you seriously turned off my band for Justin Bieber!?!?!?!?  Do you even love me at ALL!?!?!"  I cracked up and turned it to "Me Too" by Meghan Trainor.  Hey bub, I didn't pick the song but YOU SIR are the one that made the order so you must secretly want to hear Justin's breathy vocal stylings first...closet Belieber.

Rent any good movies lately?  Any current guilty pleasure songs?

  1. I did enjoy Criminal. It was a good role for Kevin Costner especially.

As for Bieber, I will admit the song is good. But I did put it at the top of the playlist so that it would be over with right up front and we could move on to other music.

  2. That chili looks amazing. I can't wait for the temps to drop enough for chili and potato soup. I don't have central air and my poor swamp cooler does its best but it's just not the same.

No recent movie rentals, but I did see "Life of Pets" and the new "Ghostbusters" in the theatre in the last month. Both of which I enjoyed, but neither of which made my top 10 of all time list.

I have a random question for you and since I don't do FB I can't message you privately. I'm going to Denver early next week and hitting Trader Joe's. I will have a small cooler with me for produce from another store and frozen goods from TJ's. Can you suggest 5-6 "can't live without" frozen items I should pick up?

    1. Hmm, well our personal faves tend to be sides from them. The Quinoa Duo is really good ad the Spinach and Carrot Polenta is another great side...both of them are ready in 6 minutes in the microwave.

The Mr would highly recommend the Char Sui Bao (steamed pork buns) to go with a Chinese meal. I put a damp paper towel over them and microwave for twice the recommended time but start with 45 seconds and increase by 15 seconds at a time.

Their garlic parmesan potatoes are really good too.

I'm trying to think of main dishes...their orange chicken and the veggie version are good but I don't get them often due to sodium content. OH! Those Thai Veggie Burgers I reviewed are EXCELLENT!! I'd get at least two of those! :-) If you like corn dogs, either of theirs are good...turkey dog or veggie version. Ooh, their chicken dogs in the meat section are good and low cal if you still want to indulge but a little healthier. If you try to grill them they do bubble up and look weird but still taste great. Their New Zealand grass fed 85/15 ground beef in the freezer section is a great deal.

I know this is weird but their chocolate croissants are AMAZING. Better than any patisserie we've been to if you let them rise properly. (I turn the oven on to warm, then turn it off and put them in there overnight so they're ready in the morning. A rare treat but SO good!)

They have mango bars that are SO good and very summery if you're looking for a bite sized dessert.

      Mango Yogurt-fridge section.

I know this isn't frozen but stock up on greeting cards while you're there! $.99 a piece so you can get 3-4 for what you'd pay from Hallmark or wherever and full size. I always grab a few sympathy, friendship, thank you and birthday cards and they're great to keep on hand!

      Non-refrigerated stuff:
      Low Cal Lemonade
      Enchilada Sauce
      Low Salt Marinara
Big ass block of 72% Pound Plus Chocolate (over the freezer section- just keep it on the top of the cooler for the ride back
Peanut Butter or Chocolate Chip Snack Bars (road snacks!)

Hope that gives you some good places to start. :-) (If you're bringing the kiddo, have him look for their dolphin or turtle. You get some kind of prize for finding it and hit up the sample counter!)

  3. I just wanted the Justin Bieber Roast on Comedy Central over the weekend and I have to say it was far funnier than I thought it would be and I thought his little spiel was quite funny. I honestly don't know that I've ever heard a song of his. I don't listen to the pop stations on the radio so there's song I know, but I couldn't tell you who sings them.

I record American Ninja Warrior and America's Got Talent. I love being able to breeze through the commercials or the awkward moments.

I still want to go see The Secret Life of Pets. They have some of the characters as stuffed animals at Petsmart --already on clearance so perhaps the darlings will get a couple for Christmas. =o)
