Sickos and what I'm reading this week

Wow, the first Friday of the new year.  How did that happen?

The Mr and I are still dealing with colds.  I usually get the 'honor' of a two weeker when I get them.  I think the couple times I took cold meds for sinus pressure prolonged things.  My family doc said if you can hold out taking something for colds, it'll be that much shorter because suppressing the symptoms is suppressing the bodies defense mechanism to rid you of the goo.  I'm beginning to think she's not full of poop on that one.  I can't wait until this is done and over with for both of us.  I'm going to be sleeping on the couch until it's gone in case we're re-infecting each other at night with our mouth breathing.

Romantical.

Enough of our tales of congestion, let's get to...

Our formerly cemented plans for the weekend are currently up in the air until the meteorologists get their act together by the afternoon forecast.  We may have to postpone by a week.  I hate it when the obvious is staring you in the face and you just pray for a Hail Mary.

What are your plans for this first weekend of the new year?

  2. My doctor had an article posted in a patient room about how people who received medication for sinus infections didn't heal any faster than those who did not receive medication for a sinus infection. Based on that study, I only go for help when my ears are affected. Pediatric Sudafed, the kind you have to get from behind the counter and swear that you aren't using it for illegal purposes, and my Netti pot help me get through. Get well soon!

I cried over the Taylor Swift video too. She seems like a really nice person.

    1. I wish my neti pot salt hadn't burned out my sinus passages. Because I was cheap, I wanted to use loose neti salt over the most costly packets. Oh my Lord, I will never do that again! The doc said it's bacterial so hopefully I'll feel better soon!

Wasn't that video sweet! She seems to take great pleasure in showing generosity to her fans. All stars should be so grateful!

  4. I do know I've heard that taking OTC sinus stuff can cause huge problems if it turns out you have a sinus infection, and not just stuffy sinuses. So I imagine the same would hold true for colds -- they have to run their course while you feel like you have Santa's reindeer trampling your chest and you're drowning in mucous (seriously, how much fluid can a person's nose have!!). I do hope you and the Mr. are over the worst of it and it weans itself this weekend.

We were supposed to go to the suburbs for Christmas with my Uncle and to help mom take down her outdoor lights, but we are due for some nasty weather. Rain, accumulating ice, and then snow on top of the ice. Um, no. Not driving 125 miles round trip in that. Mom said the same is expected out by her and him as well (she's like the halfway point between us and him), and was concerned. So we agreed to cancel for tomorrow and try again next Saturday. Ironically if I was still at my old job, I was due to work tomorrow until noon! I am SO thankful I won't have to do that. I plan on hunkering down in the house working on plenty of things here as well as peeping out some playoff football. Don't even know if I'll make it to the grocery store for any serious shopping, but some basic supplies will be needed. I'm so glad the hubs got toilet paper yesterday! LOL

Hope you have a restful weekend. Be careful with the weather because I'm assuming what we get will come your way by Sunday or so. xoxoxoxo

    1. I think I only took something 2-3x so I'm hoping I didn't screw stuff up. I got antibiotics today (something I'm against taking unless its last resort...unfortunately, it is). So hopefully I will be on the mend sooner than later. Of course the Mr is almost completely well. Bastard.

Yeah I read about that weather, it along with the sickness was why we had to skip a trip your way(ish). Stay warm and cozy in your abode and glad you have some TP! ;-)

Our temps are about 20 higher than yours so it looks like unless the weathermen are wrong (NEVER!) then we should get rain all this weekend. BOO!!! I'd like to snow shoe please!
