Rudolph, zucchini switch and Santa mugs

It's hump day, y'all!

Did anyone watch the 50th anniversary Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer last night?  It doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, it's appointment TV every Christmas season.  Who can resist that face?

I was reading a post by my friend Kristen at the Putt Putt Runner about taking in moments.  She makes good points about taking in not just the big things like the holidays, occasions and such but the little things.  She talked about even being able to go to the grocery store and that some people have to go hours to get groceries and I've got four grocery stores in walking distance of me.  I'm also grateful that the Mr and I go together.  I never realized how rare that supposedly is because when I would mention it at work people always asked how I got him to do it.  Uh, I said 'let's go to the store' and he came with me.  But her post got me thinking of my favorite little moments of the past few days.  When we were on our walk yesterday, I was following just behind him because parts of the sidewalk were narrow or we'd be close to passing someone.  At one point he said "I don't know who you are but you've been following me for 23 years and I hope you don't stop."  :-)  Last night my favorite moment was when I was seductively putting on my granny compression socks before our workout and sang Robert Palmer's "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" and he cracked up laughing.  It's little moments like those that make life fun and I thank Kristen for reminding me to enjoy those.

I burned 425 calories doing a free weight session.  Then I tried a new version of a favorite.  I know we will never cut out pasta but I thought I'd try that whole replacing half of your pasta with zucchini thing.  So I measured out four ounces of whole wheat pasta and did as much of a zucchini on my mandoline (affiliate link)  as I could, shaved 1/2 ounce of balsamic cheddar and made chicken parm.

It really helped bulk it up and cut 200 calories from the dinner so I think that'll work in the future.  (Especially in the summer when zucchini is plentiful!)

Oh and I couldn't help myself, I had to break down and buy my coveted Santa Claus mugs from Pottery Barn.

They were the gift of the day with 30% off yesterday and were the lowest I've seen them.  When I checked the pattern, I saw two of the items were sold out.  I called my local store and they said all of the local area stores are out and won't be getting more in.  OY!  See, this is always goes for me...I wait for the prices to drop and then go to buy it on sale and it's sold out.  Every. Friggin'. Time.  So I bit the bullet and even with shipping I'd save $7.  Not quite the savings I wanted but I suspect hot cocoa will taste 110% better in these.

What was your favorite little moment from yesterday?  Do you ever say you're going to buy something and when you go back to buy it, it's sold out and you try to kick your own butt?

  1. My favorite little moment from yesterday was when I was just about to fall asleep and you said "I'm going to poke you in the perineum" and we both started laughing out loud. I just never know what to expect from you sometimes and I like it that way. It keeps us young too!

    1. Hee hee! Well I needed a different P word because I've overused "I'm gonna poke you in da puss" like they said in old timey cartoons and perineum was the only thing I could think of on the fly. Unfortunately I had to ask you if you heard what I said because you thought I said poke you in the pit. :)

  2. My favorite little moments yesterday were just driving to and from school with the little guy. He has no filter yet, and some of the things he says just totally crack me up.

I'm not a fan of zucchini (unless it's in bread form) but I really like spaghetti squash.

    1. Don't you love when kids say the darndest things? They don't even stop to think if what they're saying is logical, they just blurt. :-)

I'm not a huge fan of zucchini either and trust me, if I could've actually tasted it in there, I would've retched but the only hint it was there was the occasional bits of green. I've yet to give spaghetti squash a try. It gives me the heebie jeebies but perhaps this zucchini sub will help me get over it!

  3. My favorite moment from yesterday....the sauna at the gym probably! I was on the treadmill when Rudolph came on. Sadly, I didn't watch it because I didn't think it would give me the mental pep to make it all the way through my workout.

Also, crying at my DESK over that poodle rescue video you posted Friday I believe. (I was late to the party and didn't watch it til yesterday) I totally sent that link to several people with the subject line "yep. go cry now." LOL!

Oh! and yesterday at work, I wrote down some important customer information on a napkin then used said napkin to wipe hummus from my mouth at lunch. So around 2pm, I had to dig through my trash to find it. it was hilarious and gross LOL!

    1. Yeah Rudolph isn't exactly known for its peppy tone. :)

Note...when I say get the tissues, do NOT watch it at work! LOL

      Bwaaahahaha! That's too funny!

  5. This morning my Du went into one of his sneezing fits. He sneezes and sneezes, sometimes it's triggered by cold air, but most of the time it's from no where. He just sneezes repeatedly. And he told me (joking) that 'next time I should get a husband who wasn't defective.' I said, "But I like you!" Just one of many little moments over the past 44 years that make me realize just how much I'm going to miss him.

    1. I just went and dug out a Santa mug that Coca Cola evidently put out in 1996 (I think it is from my Dad's stuff) and am having some sugar-free hot chocolate out of it as I write. Thanks for reminding me how good it tastes!

    2. Hardly defective...I do that same thing! I get those sneeze attacks when the allergies go into overdrive. Like 20x!

Coke definitely has that iconic Santa look! See, it does make it taste better!

  6. THOSE CUPS!!! Oh my gosh - I can see why you have been eyeing them! Love, love, love!!

And thanks for the shout-out!!! I appreciate your thoughts on it more than you know and am glad that I could inspire even one person to take in more little moments. And that comment from the mister? Made my heart melt!!!

    1. Aren't they so cute!?! Ahhh, I can't wait to drink cocoa from them! The Mr is like "um, you're going to have to get rid of some mugs because we have no room for these!" (He's right...don't tell)

You're very welcome. I was about hyper-ventilating earlier thinking about all I have to cram in the next 2 weeks but being more aware of taking in those moments should help so thank YOU!

  7. My favorite moment yesterday was laying on the bed with my two dogs and them snuggled up on me with looks of total contentment on their faces.

I hear you about waiting for sales only to have things sold out! The hubs wanted some Hockey Fights Cancer shirts for Christmas and the one he REALLY wanted says "I Fight For..." and you have the person's name imprinted. He wanted one for I Fight For Mom. Naturally they are completely sold out in the XL size on every single site. Sigh... I think I'll have to buy it in January instead. Stinkin' bummer...(kicks at snow).
