Get off my lawn and what I'm reading this week

Yesterday's visit with the chiro went well.  He told me no high impact the rest of the year since I had such great results laying off this week.  I don't mind and he said it'll just help me heal that much faster and I'm all about that, yo!  Must make him some cookies for next week too.  I know...it's a sickness.  When I know they're for someone else, I'm not tempted by them so no worries.   Yet.

On a doing mama proud note, the Mr caught one of the little bastards that has been molesting our curbside lighted Christmas trees yesterday!  Like IN THE ACT.  He gave him a good little 1970's style tongue lashing that will mean absolutely nothing because his parents likely would do nothing if confronted with his misdeeds.  He even broke the one he pulled out of the ground and we just bought those damn things 2 1/2 weeks ago!  NOT happy!  We think he was one of four that have been yanking it out of the ground as I saw three others walk by a few minutes later to stop and read the "Smile!  You're on camera!" sign we have posted by them.  I alerted the Mr and he ran to the door like Scrooge minus the cane to whack them all with.  So we are settling into the "get off my damn lawn" phase of life quite nicely.  He made me proud!

But enough of all of that, let's get to...

8 Ways to Lose Weight While You Sleep  (Sign me up yo!  Actually that new fitness tracker says I burned 700 cals whilst sleeping.  I think I'd have to subtract 50 calories for the laughing I did in the first few minutes of tracking.)

12 Things You Might Not Know About "The Twelve Days of Christmas"  (That's a lot of friggin' birds is all I know.  I'd be eating well for the first half of the year!)

Time Your Strength Training and Cardio for Better Sleep!  (I don't know if there's any truth to this voodoo but might be something to try if you're in a plateau.)

30 Homemade Food Gifts for the Holidays  (Give the gift of yum!)

WestJet Christmas Miracle: Spirit of Giving  (They did it again!  *sniff*)

2014: The Year Seniors Put Our Gym Routines to Shame  (I wanna be them when I grow up)

Time capsule homes from the 1930s to the 1980s  (Flippin' awesome!)

How to Stop Internet Ads From Ruining Your Holiday Gift Surprises  (Good info to know this time of year!)

'Biggest Loser' Star Rachel Frederickson on Life After Controversial Win  (Poor thing couldn't win for winnin')

Dad Speaks Out After 21-Year-Old Sues Him to Pay College Tuition  (Oh man, this chaps my arse)

10 Adorable Free Holiday Printables  (SUPER cute tags!  I've printed a few mahself!)

Playing With My Son:  An experiment in forced nostalgia and questionable parenting  (Courtesy of the Mr and we both agree this would be us.  Actually if we had a kid, it would be forced to watch old school cartoons and TV shows until it went to school and would ask other kids if they saw Tom & Jerry Saturday or watched the new episode of Mork and Mindy)

19 Secrets of UPS Drivers  (Stop trying to seduce them...they have a schedule to keep)

Why the Holidays Smell So Good (According to Science)    (Makes a lot of sense!)

'Comfyballs' Underwear Denied Trademark Because 'Balls'  (I still can't imagine sitting on balls all day.  But sorry even that or a soft grazing bringing a dude to his knees doesn't compare to monthly visitors, pushing humans out of your hoo-ha and menopause.)

Well, we got the word last night that our friends we were getting together with tomorrow night are both sick with two kinds of creeping crud between them.  The Mr talked to the male half and said he sounded like crap and it's definitely something we don't want to catch this holiday season so we'll get together in January.  But a few minutes later I made brunch plans with a friend for Sunday morning so we'll be having egg nog French toast.  I have to bake some cookies for her so I'd better make a few more doughs today and choose what I'm going to make.  She mentioned my baking specifically so it's not optional and I'm glad for it because when you get a rep from someone who appreciates it, you like to deliver.  Well, I do.  :)

Whatchu got planned this weekend?  All business or tomfoolery or a healthy mix of both?

  1. On one hand I am glad it was a kid vandalizing our xmas trees because the last thing you want is to deal with some crazy teen or adult. On the other hand I just get the sense that the kid had no real understanding of the kind of trouble he could be in if I were the type to pursue this further. It irks me that he did end up breaking our brand new lights. And this was just after the frustration of trying to put up the old version of these xmas tree lights only to find that somehow between this year and last they just died suddenly (as lights do somehow). So now we get to be reminded every year why that one star on that one tree is broken... oh well at least we can have a laugh about how I berated the kid.

    1. Yes, I'm glad it was a kid as well because we have some serious adult toolbags around that I wouldn't put past doing something like that. That kid had no concept of 1) how to read because he totally didn't see the sign and 2) that if there is a car parked right in front of you that someone is probably home to catch you! @sshole. I hope at minimum it made him think and we won't have to worry about it again. Or he's plotting how to egg our house without getting caught. Sadly, in this day and age, I was waiting for his parents to show up berating US for berating their little vandal. No respect or boundaries.

  2. Ugh. I don't understand why kids cant just mind their own business and leave things alone. I wouldn't of even dared touching a neighbors things when I was younger. Being pregnant with a son, one thing I'm damn sure determined to do is instill in him some freaking respect for others. I know I cant control what he does at the end of the day when I'm not around and he's pressured by peers, but respecting other people, and their belongings should be in the forefront of his mind. (a girl can dream right? ha!)

I have to finish up my holiday baking as well, then box it up and get it out on its way this week. I have about ten different types made, and just need to finish up icing sugar cookies, making gingerbreads, the cookie pressed cookies, and one last batch before boxing them up. Hopefully I can knock it out Sunday, but with a full day scheduled Saturday and exhaustion kicking in earlier and earlier.. I'm not so sure.

    1. I know, right? I wouldn't have either because I knew that 1) it was wrong and 2) I would've gotten in SOOOO much trouble. I don't think most kids have that threat of follow through much anymore. :-( I'm very happy to hear that you're gonna teach your little nugget what are seemingly old fashioned values these days. The world needs more parents like you!

Sounds like some lucky recipients of some delicious baking! Have fun!

  3. I have a whole lotta homework this weekend, but the end of the fall term is in sight! I just have to do a quiz, chapter homework and a final exam by Monday and I'm done. That should be a piece of cake, right?!?!? lol

    1. Homework? BOO! ;-)

Good luck and try to take a few hours for some tomfoolery, it's a moral imperative!

  4. I am so proud. Got my shopping done yesterday, and most of it wrapped today. (Some has still to arrive--I do almost all my shopping via Amazon and other websites.) Feels good to be pretty much done. I'm usually picking up last minute items on Christmas Eve! Even got the stocking stuffers bought--and Christmas is still almost two weeks away! YEAH ME! I know you've been done for weeks and weeks--but for me---this is pretty darned good.
Tonight is Cornhusker Volleyball on TV at 8:30. They are in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tournament and playing #3 seed Washington--probably going to get soundly beaten, but we'll watch anyhow. Tomorrow night is our annual holiday dinner with old friends at our favorite Prime Rib restaurant. Should be fun!

    1. Good on ya! Hey, early for you/late for me...it's all good as long as you're not out there peckin' at the leftovers on Christmas Eve! ;-)

Enjoy the sports and dinner with friends!

  5. One year we had spiral trees up in our yard out front and along the side of the house and someone came by and yanked the big tree and pulled it apart like a slinky. I felt so bad for the hubs because he always worked so hard decorating outside, getting on the roof (2 stories up) and doing the lights, etc. For several years after that we didn't put anything in the yard. He must be reverting because now we have several blowup things that he's proud as a peacock about adorning the front yard. It can be cringe-worthy, but he's so excited to do it, and considering my bah humbug mood this year, I know he's doing it to raise my spirits and I love him for it. And considering we don't have kids and are the only house on the block that decorated....well pfft on them! We'll Griswold it up. =o)

Yesterday I saw the doc and he was the most compassionate he's ever been and I walked out of there feeling very valued for once. He listened to all that is going on in my life and said it made sense why my bp was so high. I told him if I get 3 hours of sleep a night that is a good night and he said uh-uh. He prescribed me something to help me sleep and shut off my brain for a few hours and I took a capsule last night around 9pm. So I've been awake since about 4:30am, but I got a good solid 6 hours or so aside from having to go to the bathroom. But I was able to fall right back asleep which never happens. I'm groggy right now, but I'm going to stay up since I have to be up at 6am anyway (it's 5:45am now), and I'm going to treat myself to an afternoon nap after I get all of my errands done. I feel hopeful with this little capsule of help on nights when I really need it. I only need to take it as needed so if I get a couple of days in a row of good sleep, my body may naturally start to do that on its own, which is the goal. I walked out of his office practically jumping up and clicking my heels because he helped validate that I'm doing the best I can with the circumstances I've been given.

So this weekend is lots of errands and getting things in order for the new job coming up. Need to mail out some Christmas presents as well, so I'll be out and about taking advantage of the 48 - 50 degree day we're supposed to have today! Yippee!!!
