Stay Off the Sites Weekend Recap

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you're ready to pounce on another week.

(tenor.com)

As usual, the Mr and I couldn't stay off of the real estate sites and I found a place in the country that I fell in love with.  Not as much for the main house but the fact it had this separate house that some of you will be appalled by but I instantly fell in love with.

We would get anything electrically in line and use that as our "hygge house."  Whenever life is a bummer...head to the hygge house with a book, look out at the hydrangeas and chill.   Since it's not officially on the market yet, we thought we'd drive by to see what the neighbors looked like and how far it was commute wise.  Well, that killed it.  Not necessarily commute wise and that podunk is being kind as a descriptor but right across the street and I mean basically driveways lining up is a scrap metal place as well as the local shooting range up the road.  Now I don't mind some good ol boys as neighbors but I don't want the sounds of random gunshots, dogs barking and whatever sounds a scrap metal place makes interrupting the peace we jumped back into a mortgage for.  Not gonna lie, I cried a little.  Plus there's a beautiful barn but it's in need of major repair and I don't know that 1) we could justify paying for the expense when we'd have nothing to put in it (SOOO many windows out on it so we'd be constantly chasing wildlife out of there) and 2) if it had to come down, I would feel like a wrecker of history.  A lot of the places we really like seem to be ruined by a street view or a drive by.  I guess they'll be peeling us off the floor here when we die.

As I was perusing other homes, I stumbled upon Grandma's house being up for sale.  That wasn't pleasant.  What was weird (non-believers, skip this) was I started getting a LOT of her non-traditional name popping up the previous four days.  The first few times I chalked up to coincidence but then it was happening about 2-6x per day which I couldn't ignore.  The 'coincidences' started, according to Realtor.com, the day the house went on the market.  I don't know why I didn't think to check.  I guess I just assumed someone would give me a heads up it was on the market but you know what they say about assuming.  So that took some processing seeing the house where we spent so many holidays barren and looking small.  It still has her colorful wall color choices and wallpaper borders that she liked to put up because she had the patience for it.  So it feels like a part of her is still there but they will likely be the first things someone else will remove.  The pictures taken are utterly HORRIBLE.  It's like someone found an old Nokia phone in a box in the attic and was like "this'll do."  Apparently they don't care if it sells fast or not.  It still would've been nice to be asked if I wanted to take a final look around but I'll give the benefit of the doubt that they assumed after he moved that thief into the house that I'd want nothing to do with it.  Still...would've been nice to be asked.

Movin' on.

Sunday we slept in a bit which I was grateful for since I seem to be getting to bed later and later.  We had some Caulipower veggie pizza and salad for lunch, drove by a house we were making sure was crossed off the list due to the neighborhood and went for a walk in the cemetery nearby.  It was quite warm and I was glad to cool off with a Yasso yogurt bar when we got home after a quick rinse off in the shower.  We found Escape to the Chateau DIY on Peacock and watched quite a few episodes of that which is watching other people buy their chateaus and give it a go.  Obviously, I found one for us that we could afford, that I loved and now we're going to move to France without knowing the language.  It's not a chateau more than it is a hamlet but I'll still take it.  The Mr got the laundry done, and I got dinner made before settling in for a little Sunday night tube watching.

That's about it on our end.

Do anything this weekend?

  1. That cat pounce gif is hilarious. The look on the face of the first cat is classic. Have a great week everybody. Don't get pounced!

  2. Charming French Manor House but 2 bathrooms for 5 bedrooms? Hosting guests would be rough. On the plus side, if the Chief Bruno novels are correct this region of France attracts a lot of international folks.

    1. Girl, I've had ONE bathroom since 5th grade. That's an upgrade!

    2. I always feel sharing with guests is different. Of course it depends on the guests. but if they are leaving wet towels hanging around and missing the trash can with their tissue, I'd rather not know until they leave and I clean up. Umm, we don't have guests often, maybe for reasons like that.

  3. It was a good weekend with getting a few house things done, watching all forms of sports while the hubs was at work, going to work, and getting some sleep here and there. The weather was truly lovely and I wish we could have spent time outside more. I felt cooped up, so I just should have sat on the deck, but for some weird reason I didn't. Now it gets pretty toasty this week.

  4. I was in France solo once and didn't feel the love of the people. Friday I had an early out so i met some coworkers for lunch. It was great catching up after 28 months. Sunday I caulked and painted my patio ceiling and then floated in the pool. Then, boom, Monday was here ugggh.
    Have a great week

    2. Were you in Paris or elsewhere in France? I found the attitude very different. Parisians are like New Yorkers: they think they are the center of the world.
