Hump Day Poll: What Takes YOU Back?
In a world that is spiraling down the toilet ever changing, and sometimes not for the better, there are small things we can do to create little pockets of nostalgia from a simpler time. It's harder and harder to find things from your childhood and if you do, often they aren't the same. (I still lament the death of the taste of Chef Boy Ardee boxed pizza mix. Sigh) But for me, there are a few scents that I can rely on that are still out there. When we were dating, one of my favorite scents was that spray musk and I was tickled to still be able to find it! One spritz of it and I'm ready for a night on the town with the teenaged Mr in his Iroc. I was also happy to find Night Magic from Avon is still available and gives me that same feeling. My friend got it for me last year and with as much as I use it (rarely to never), I'll have it until I'm dust. (I did find the solid perfume compact in a bin and still have it if I want to be truly...
All of those Saturday cartoons except somehow I missed The Littles as I think when that was on I had to switch over to another channel that showed my Saturday Starcade shows instead but I did watch The Smurfs. After school for me it was always GI Joe, Transformers and Voltron. I do miss Adult Swim in the late 90's - that was a golden age for Cartoon Network as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't watch a lot of tv when I was a kid (my folks still don't). I made a deal with my dad that however early I got up on Saturday morning, I could watch tv until 9am and then had to turn the tv off. So I watched whatever was on until 9. I know I watched Smurfs sometimes, that early there were reruns of older cartoons like Flintstones and the Jetsons. My absolute favorite was a cartoon called Dungeons and Dragons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YacKar7y3mc
ReplyDeleteThe entire draw of Captain Caveman was the yell. I can't remember even a whisper of single scene or story and probably couldn't ID any other character. But that yell!!!
ReplyDeleteMy childhood cartoon watching was similar to yours, with a small dose of Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain as I got older. As an adult, it's The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Futurama, Daria and occasionally Beavis and Butt-Head. Haven't been watching much TV but my Saturday morning binge will always hold a place in my heart.
I was a huge Hanna-Barbera fan, so I watched a lot of the Flintstones, Jetsons, Magilla Gorilla, Squiddly Diddly, Jabberjaw. I loved Tex Avery with Chilly Willy and Woody Woodpecker. Some others that come to mind are Hong Kong Phooey, The Banana Splits, The Ant and the Ardvark, Richochet Rabbit, Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Strawberry Shortcakes, The Smurfs, and Bugs Bunny and the Gang, along with Fat Albert on Saturday mornings.
