There are a lot of opinions on when the fall season begins. Some say it's when the calendar turns to September and the stores and coffee shops start pelting you with pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin scones. Some say it's when the weather is consistently in the upper 70's and chilly nights. Others say when it's actually the first day of fall and not a second sooner, thankyouverymuch.
I've always been of the mindset that fall is when the calendar turns September because school had just started (back in the day it didn't start until the end of August not beginning or mid-month!) and it's my birthday. So it was like my birthday kicked off my favorite season. I'll admit, the douchebag weather has made it very hard to get into the apple cider and bonfire spirit, so it doesn't feel like fall to me. I desperately want to put out fall decor, but when you practically incinerate upon exiting the house, sweater weather and fuzzy socks feel like distant dreams.
So how about you? When does the fall season start for you?

I think of your birthday as the start of fall but it is hard to get into it when it's still 90 degrees outside. Technically September 22nd is the official first day of Fall so we'll see how close to that Mother Nature actually adheres. Either way, it won't be long before we can get all nice and cozy on a cool night on our patio and I am so looking forward to that!
ReplyDeleteIt's often very warm all the way through October here, so basing it on temperature doesn't really work well here. I guess for me Labor Day has always been the big summer wrap up and then fall starts regardless of the calendar or temperature.
ReplyDeleteThe beginning of September always has me taking a deep breath, knowing that fall is on it's way. Oftentimes our entire month is still very, very warm, but some of our leaves have already started changing and I think that's because we've had so much rain. So I still put out some fall décor because I feel like I'm encouraging the cooler days to speed it up. LOL And I'll light a baked candle or two to remind me of the season.
ReplyDeleteFor me fall starts when the leaves start to change colours. We often get very warm weather well into September due to hurricanes in the Atlantic that push the warm weather up. It is very hard to feel fall-like when you are still wearing shorts, the boat is still in the water, and you are still heading to the beach to swim in the ocean. But when the leaves start to change colours fall is hard to deny.
ReplyDeleteThe day after Labor Day has always been the marker for me...school starts, the reruns on TV are almost over, and some of the leaves have already started turning. Even though we almost always have an Indian Summer, it's still fall.
