Springing Back to Life

Our patio has gone through many iterations over the past 29 years.  When we first moved in, we were poor.  Our budget was tight so we had to be content with the grass and shadowbox fences with the neighbors.  We knew we always wanted a patio and saved up for it.  I want to say we paid $1200 for a paver patio.  We picked out the huge 18"x18" slate look pavers from Lowe's and got a patio set that was an ambitious size.  It was nice to have a space to relax outside and have a little flower bed where our pooch would happily walk up to smell the flowers.  After a year or two of constantly having people catch our eye as they walked their dogs or themselves, we said it was time for a fence with a gate.  I think it was around $700 back then.  Damn those prices make me nostalgic! Over the years, we had various outdoor area rugs, curtains on the fences to cover gaps, tropical hibiscus trees during our Hawaii years to remind us of our second home. ...

Bon voyage, weigh in and shaky week ahead

Where did the weekend go?

I'm ready for another one.  Anyone else?

We went to visit with the Mr's brother and his wife before they pack up their life and move away.  It was a great visit and one of those ones where you leave going "why did it take you guys leaving forever for us to get to this place?"  Sigh.  I don't really foresee us going to their neck of the woods or making a special trip there but hopefully we'll get to hang out with them like that again another time.

We made a stop at a local antique store where they enticed me with their vintage lunchboxes.

It made me want to break out my Barry Gibb lunchbox from the basement bin.

Our weigh in was good Saturday.  I was down two (just barely) and the Mr was down one.  This week will be interesting.  We flip flopped our high cal day to Sunday to be with them and we ate without planning.  It wasn't too wild but about 600 more than we have been the past two weekends and even with planning out all of my meals to be lower this week, I'm still showing 200 calories higher average and that was without our ritual Sunday cocoa we had to forego.  Grrr!

So, we'll see.  I guess we'll have to bump up the workouts a little this week to try to compensate.

Tonight is BBQ salmon and brussels.

What did you guys do this weekend?  What are your goals this week?

  1. My weekend was alright
I went to visit my grandmother and was able to replace items I lost in the water damage. I also helped de-hoard her attic as bit (she's not actually a "Hoarders" (thoe show) hoarder but there's a ridiculous amount of stuff in that house. I've made a plan on how to deal with some of it - I'm finally going to learn how to ebay it seems... and some will be donated and some trashed.

On a happier note, I beat my personal record (PR) in a 5mi road race by about 3 min.

My goals: pick up my apartment, hit my workouts

  2. I didn't do much. Ran some errands, picked up the house a bit, took the boy to the pool. Mostly it was just about getting ready to go back to work today. I really could have used a 2 week spring break, one week just wasn't nearly long enough.

  3. It was a good weekend but did go by way too fast as usual! I definitely need to plan the meals ahead this week to make sure I stay on target and try to get out of this current set of numbers I'm in.
