Survival Mode Put Us Back to Zero

A lot of you came here many moons ago when I left Sparkpeople.  I loved the community of that place and the support I got there.  It was at the height of us being on our game.  That motivation you have in the beginning when you're consistently rewarded with weight loss, smaller clothes, compliments to keep your motivation high and you somehow begin to step out of being invisible to the public to people smiling at you, opening doors or striking up conversation.  You start to feel human.  You don't have to worry about going to restaurants or 'fitting' somewhere.  You can go to a wedding and see those God awful thin folding chairs and while you still don't like them, you're not concerned.  Many of your worries that fit people never had to think of, have faded away.  We started for the long haul in our 30's and that's when we had the most success, losing 226 and 190 lbs respectively.  When we went on vacation, as long as we came back and got rig...

Halloween Candy Hump Day Poll

OMG, Good & Plenty or those God awful circus peanuts.  šŸ’€

(My faves on here though are Smarties, PB Kisses and Candy Corn.  The rest would go straight in the trash)

  1. Even though I loved getting them, let's face it the wax teeth were really the biggest letdown once you actually dug in. It really was just minty wax. Nasty!

Just about everything in your pic above I would still eat, lol. I honestly liked Good N Plenty but Good N Fruity was even better!

  2. Since I'm in Canada we don't have a lot of those candies or they aren't as popular here. Necco waffers and Good & Plenty don't exist. Smarties are known as rockets here. Smarties are something else entirely, kinda like an M&M. Candy corn and the marshmallow peanuts are not something that is given out on Halloween. Candy corn wasn't even available here in my childhood.

So, to answer your question, the little boxes of raisins and apples were the most disappointing. Rockets and molasses kisses were slow to be eaten, but would eventually disappear.

  3. The allure of candy corn eludes me. It tastes like...corn syrup? Based on the recipe for homemade versions it might be tasty but the way it is mass-produced seems to leach all the good flavor out of it. I don't necessarily love all of the ones pictured but can see where each has it's own flavor, except for candy corn. This post inspire me to do a little google searching which made me giggle. The pro-candy corn comments sounded as if they'd been taken from Gourmet magazine: a blend of creamy fondant and rich marshmallow with hints of butter and vanilla. But I tend towards the less favorable description of it as "the unholy mix of glue and old icing."

Chocolate was always the best candy in my opinion. Even mediocre chocolate was tasty. Smarties and peanut butter cups are a must in whatever Halloween candy mix I give out.

  4. I like Good N Plenty, but Good N Fruity was far superior -- BUT now the version they have now. They changed it about 10 years ago and it no longer has licorice in the middle and doesn't taste nearly as good. And I used to like the multi-colored circus peanuts (weirdo!!) Not a big fan of the peanut butter kisses or Mary Janes, but would probably like them more now than as a kid. Mounds Bars were gross to me, Smarties were okay, but preferred Sweetarts or Wacky Wafers or Bottle Caps. Probably the worst was the popcorn balls and apples back in the 70s. Or if you were my dad, nickels. Yep, he gave out nickels. Heathen.

  5. I guess I'm the weirdo of the group. I liked all of them. Some more than others, sure, but if it had sugar I was happy. We rarely had sweets in the house when I was a kid so even the not so great candy felt like a win. Now, with my own son, I hated when he got those little packs of twizzlers. They're great when they are fresh, but they go stale and turn into rocks really fast.
