A Little of Bit of This n That Weekend Recap

Happiest of Monday's to you!  I hope your weekend was full of equal amounts of productivity and general foolishness because balance.  We grabbed an order at a store and then made the trek out to this fish and chips place we heard about a year or two ago.  We went with a bit of trepidation because our friends recommended it and you know how you have those friends that everything they recommend, you end up not liking?  Well, it rang true again.  Bland fish and chips and somewhat decent hush puppies but not worth going back for.  Sigh.

We went on a looooong country drive including past the house my dad lived in the longest after the divorce before moving out of state.  It's weird seeing it without the fences in place anymore basically all around both properties.  What's now an automotive parts store (out of a house?) used to have cows in the backyard that would come up to me when I arrived and lick my hand like a dog.  The shed out back is barely standing and the windows boarded up.  It needs knocked down.  I remember that shed being unpleasant because it's where my dad and uncles would string up skinned deer.  If you're a hunters kid, you KNOW that smell and wish it was something you didn't.  So I rarely went in there, unless of course I was on 3 acre mowing duty, which seemed to be at least one of the two visits I got with him per month.   I couldn't help remembering the time I was laying there trying to get to sleep and the streetlight was shining in.  I would occasionally close my eyes and open them because seeing the light on the wall in front of me made me nervous.  When I opened my eyes, there was the outline of a man there!  I pulled the covers over my head and never looked again.  I wasn't sure if I was asleep or awake and told my little stepbrother about it in the morning.  We went outside and sure enough, there was an adult footprint right outside the window in the mud.  They had neighbors that gave me the heebie jeebies when I mowed and the guys would always watch and I'm pretty sure it was one of them.  Good times.  But that house is where I got my coping mechanism movies like Stayin' Alive, Real Genius, Labyrinth and others to get me through the shuttling back and forth that all divorced kids get used to.  I'm just glad he moved out of state so that wasn't my entire existence from 9 years old on.  Just until I was 13, I think.  (Then a month in the summer in CA but still.)

We both took naps, watched a little college ball then made our way to le speakeasy for our pizza.  It was as crappy as we both expected given the hype.  But, at least we both had good company and it was fresh after some rain so we had a wet picnic table to ourselves so we could enjoy the first peeks of Fall.

We watched Evil Dead 2.  Good Lord.  For my 13th birthday, I had a bunch of girlfriends over and we saw that and House 2 at the drive in.  It was a scream, baby.  Literally.  A bunch of 13 year old girls on a blanket on the ground while my mom was in the car hugging each other screaming.  I really wish we would've taken pics or something.  That's the only part I remember of that night...and that House 2 was just as bad as House one.  Sorry.  Getting a little nostalgic.

Sunday morning we had a Fresh delivery that got here around 9am.  Back to bed to watch season premiere of SNL like they are somehow going to get better after this many years being in the toilet.  Waste of time.  Then fast forwarding through Sunday Morning before getting up for the day.  I had a weird craving for breakfast...apple nachos.

We started watching Hawaii vs Fresno State's game.  We've always gotta record when our Rainbow Warriors are on.  Shed a tear for the in memoriam for Colt Brennan, their star QB back in the day and his number on their helmets.  So sad to lose him to addiction.  If you or someone you know is struggling with drug or substance addiction, please get help.  You can call 1-800-662-HELP (4357).

We walked at Grandma's and this dude swooped out of nowhere just over our heads:

(Thought I'd spare you the shot I got of it mid-crap this Monday morning.)

It gave us not so great flashbacks to when the exact type of bird picked up Wanda the rabbit and tried to kill her as the Mr was talking to her.  Thankfully, we saw her a few days later but yeah, totally traumatized the Mr at the time.    We went to Target and got our flu shots.  Just a heads up when you get yours, if you go to Target they'll give you a coupon for $5 off of a $20 purchase so bonus.  We hung around a little then it was back home where we snuggled into some Sunday night hygge.

What did you get into this weekend?

  1. Long casual drives are the best! Weekend was its usual fare of chores, football, and work for the most part. The hubs and I had the same days off so that was nice to do some of those things together. It was in the high 80s though so didn't do much outside. It's pretty gloomy today (I personally love days like this) and it has that autumn look outside--until you walk out and feel the humidity. But at least it's pretty to look at from inside. LOL

  2. Walgreens is also doing $5 off $20 coupon with flu shots, it must be a thing. We got flu shots too. In midst of getting Covid boosters, two done, two more scheduled, three do not yet qualify.

  3. My weekends have gotten into a serious rut lately. Get all the house chores done on Saturday, then have great intentions for Sunday but end up sitting around like a lump.
