What I'm Reading This Week #20

Howdy do punkin' poos?  I hope you had a delightful week of blissful productivity at work (aka hanging on by the frays of your well bitten fingernails whilst saying you need to win the lottery but never actually playing.)   A birthday shout out to my grandma.  You know, even though she would've been 86, and I know the probability is she would be gone now, it still doesn't stop me wondering how long she would've made it if dementia hadn't reared up.  I could really use one of her hugs or her hands cupping my face with that ornery little grin saying I was her first grandbaby.  Happy birthday grandma.  I hope you and mom have a big euchre game going on tonight. We've been slowly integrating back into walking this week as the Mr could handle.  Last night he was able to do two laps without having to stop to stretch so that is good news.  For more news, let's check out: Grip Strength Is A Sneaky Predictor Of Longevity—Here’s How To Improve Yours ...

Hump Day Poll: Thanksgiving Pivot

(Homegirl's like "screw it, more pie for me this year!  Plates optional!"  Source)

Many of us are pivoting this Thanksgiving so that leads me to wonder:

What, if anything, is changing about your menu this year?  Still preparing it yourself?  Are you doing takeout from a restaurant?  Doing a Thanksgiving to go type deal from a restaurant or grocery store?

It's just the Mr and I and we'll be eating exactly what we eat every Thanksgiving and thankfully we won't have to worry about someone bringing the wrong rolls because I secured those bad boys a week ago.  Nothing will be different except not having to rush around, not having to pick a spot so people I don't want near me won't sit by me, and no awkward silences or not have to endure snippiness when someone inevitably irritates someone else.  So I'm pretty stoked about taking a 'break year' if even I'm not happy about the reason why.  Maybe it'll make future gatherings a little more mellow.

  1. No guests this year, just me and Mom. I'm making the same as always. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  2. Had a tooth extraction today so more mashed potatoes and stuffing for me and less turkey but otherwise looking forward to a quieter day and some snuggle time in front of the fireplace. We have a 1-hour family conference call scheduled for early evening to say hi - and that will probably be just enough for me. Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. For the first time we are ordering to-go Thanksgiving dinners from a local restaurant. I found out last week another local (my favorite place) was also doing them and cooking in the 100 yr old ovens... RATS! Didn't hear about that until we placed this order but that's okay. It's still local and we are grateful to not have to cook during this insane time with our hours. Even better...no dishes. LOL
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving day without any of the family dramas that ensue with humans!

  4. Honestly I am looking forward to this one. I know it is just us but I have had to put up with drama from extended family at Thanksgiving my entire life and this is a break. Now don't get me wrong, I wouldn't wish this on everybody every year - but I am going to enjoy a totally drama free Thanksgiving for once in my life and I am happy about that! Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Let's Eat!
