Whose Idea Was That? Weekend Recap

Happy first Monday of November, all!  Did you have any goblins for Halloween?  We never get any and this year was no exception so it was like a normal year for us.  We got trailer duped into watching The Houses That October Built on Amazon Prime and I saw on IMDB that there was a sequel.  So what do you do when you yell hatred at the screen at the end of one movie you hate?  You watch the next one.  It was the abbreviated version though because I fast forwarded through probably 30 minutes of it here and there.  It was actually better than the first one, not that it took much but still.

Oh, I did get the garland I ordered for Christmas and did a test run on it on the chandelier.

I got real garland last year (I can't believe it's been a year since we had that up!) and it had to be replaced on Christmas Eve because it was just too crunchy for words.  This looks real enough that even up close you'd really have to examine it.  I do wish it was just slightly more green though.  This does look like the one week starved for water color so I may paint wash it with some evergreen acrylic paint if a test patch comes out okay.

We had to swing by the grocery one evening and we've been looking for this flavor for FIVE MONTHS since the stupid program came out.

I just hoped the ice cream would be better than the show.  I kept hearing about this amazing sugar cookie dough core and all of the add in's so I was psyched to try it.

Even the chocolate moo cows couldn't save this.  The sugar cookie core literally melted like  a blob of sugar in the heat of your mouth.  There was no chewy edible cookie dough in there.  I got like two toffee bits and two cows and the rest was mediocre milk chocolate ice cream which I'm not a huge fan of to begin with.  So it was a definite bust for me and now I need to get the other two pints out of the freezer cuz I'm not eating them.  A rare miss for B&J.

Womp womp.

Sunday, the wind was HOWLING and the Mr is like "I wonder what the temperature is."  The trees are blowing sideways, surely he's not thinking of going out in 50 degrees with 25 mph sustained winds given he knows how after a walk in misty 60 degree weather I can't regulate my body temperature for hours afterward.

Then he's like "I should go get my jeans on" and I said "are we WALKING in that?!!"  "I just need to try my jeans on."  Then he comes down in his jeans and stands there with his keys.  This mofo wants to walk in what will be the equivalent of 40 degrees with the wind.  Trying not to be the asshole, I reluctantly agree.  We wee in the chapel before beginning our 3 mile trek around the grounds.  Not even wearing a mask that we had from inside the chapel, three layers of shirts and a hoodie could undo the biting wind.  Sometimes the gusts would literally push my fat ass down the road.  Like I had to fight to stand up.  From a quarter of the trek on, I was in utter misery as he's skipping and jumping and pressing wildflowers like a Monty Python lumberjack.

The last third of the way, I was limping like Quasimodo because I couldn't feel my legs and was shivering uncontrollably.  Did I mention it started spitting snow?!  I wasn't even happy about it, that's how numb I was.

"I felt alive" is how he described it.

"This is the only man who will save you when I regain feeling in my limbs mofo" is how I described it.

When we got home, I changed into jammies, turned on the fireplace, made hot tea and we had grilled cheese and soup for dinner.

I still had a long night ahead of me feeling okay then starting to shake madly inside as my body just can't seem to regulate itself in my middle age.

How did you spend your weekend?

  1. I did feel alive at first but yeah I started to regret it toward the end of the walk. I was sure glad it was over when it finally was.

  2. We had 5 trick-or-treaters, which was about the normal. Worth getting some candy and hanging some decorations.

I share your pain on the temperature regulation issue. Three years ago my husband talked me into a fancy adjustable bed with heating pad at the foot and while I grumbled at the time, I'm loving it now.

  3. We had one trick-or-treater, the 13 year old from next door. Normally we get ten, sometimes more, but I have gotten zero in the past. We had candy done up in bags and ready to go, and now my partner is excited that he gets to eat it all.

The rest of the weekend was pretty low key. We relaxed, watched some F1 and football, and got out for a walk on Saturday to enjoy the sunshine since the next week is supposed to be quite grey. A weekend with not much going on is exactly what I needed since I haven't been sleeping well. I was exhausted.

  4. No goblins came by, although I could hear some kids hanging out at a house across the field. Weekend went by in a blur and I didn't even do a load of laundry. More hours at work than home. Hubs grocery shopped and took the dogs on some drives. Supposed to be sunny and in the 60s and 70s this week, so open windows to air out the house will feel good.
