What I'm Reading This Week #27

Happy Friday everyone!   I hope you've got the day off to enjoy.  I would really appreciate the weather dialing it back from Satan's taint to dryish heat please.  I'm not even asking for much.  Like 83 degrees would make me happy at this point but there's no end in sight to the 90's.  The Mr and I have both been plagued with migraines this week.  He had a two day event and I had an ocular migraine which is just so crappy to deal with since you can't read or do anything until your vision isn't screwed up.   I got to wait on hold for an hour Tuesday with the state tax department so I decided to sand and prime the newel post while listening to hold music designed to make you hang up.  To quote Bugs Bunny "he don't know me vewy well, do he?"  I got that squared away and later went out between pop up storms to deadhead some zinnias which you may have seen in Wednesday's post.   Speaking of Wednesday, it was a busy day in the ga...

First Fall Hump Day Poll

I saw this gem from Cathy yesterday and lost it laughing!

So that brings us to today's hump day poll question:

What are some of your favorite Fall comfort foods?

I like soft, chewy cookies with fall flavors like maple, butterscotch, pumpkin and cinnamon.  I love apple crumb pie too.  I only like pumpkin pie with gingersnap crust on Thanksgiving but don't care one way or the other the rest of the season.  (Cool Whip or Cabot Whipped Cream)

Savory dishes, I like a nice chowder like clam or corn.  Chili is always good as well as my favorite fall meal...grilled cheese and tomato soup.

How about you?

  1. Long before pumpkin spice was a movement I loved pumpkin cookies. Then you made chocolate chip pumpkin brookies and I am hooked. When can I get more? :-)

  2. Warm soups with buttered toast! I also love a good roasted veggie tray :)

  3. I'll put in a 2nd vote for warm soup: tomato, butternut squash, roasted corn. Yum!

  4. There's only one place I like for apple cider donuts, so that's first on my list. Vegetable beef soup, banana bread, pumpkin bread, and cranberry bread are a must too.

  5. That Cathy cartoon is pretty much spot on.

Potato soup and chili are two of my fall/winter favorites. I love grilled cheese, but since I have it so often on summer break I think of it as more of a summer food than a fall food.

I'm a fan of pumpkin spice, but they have taken it way too far. When I saw "pumpkin spice ham" at the deli last year I was done.
