Did Statins Help?

Pardon if this is riddled with typos but it's 2:30am. I got my lipid blood test results back yesterday.  I'm going to assume heading into perimenopause years shot my numbers up because nothing has changed food wise (though stress wise it's been astronomical the past few years which apparently contributes as well). A reminder, I was at 264 at the beginning of December and my shuck and jive speech to get my shit together didn't land well with her.  After a talk with my bestie who is on them convinced me (us) with her experience, I relented and agreed to go on them. After almost 4 months on a 10mg dose (the lowest dose available), I'm at 184.  So, I guess they work.  😂   I will also say this is with zero dietary changes and a pretty scattered workout schedule the past two months.  I hope in time when all of the projects are done and we are finally able to focus on ourselves that I can eventually go off of them with hard work.   I'm pleased with...

So here's the story.  Last week, we're enjoying one of the dinners the Mr and I made together.  We're eating the broccoli I roasted and the Mr says "why do I smell plastic burning?"  I didn't at the time but we went into the kitchen and opened the bottom oven.  There was that heinous mess on the bottom of the oven and in the track of the bottom rack.  We ate dinner waiting for it to cool down a little and the Mr gently pries it off of the floor and breaks it off of the track.

Then it hit us what happened.  I pulled something out of a bag and put the magnetic chip clip on the counter.   When I put the broccoli on the sheet pan to roast, the tray touched the chip clip and it magnetized to the side of the pan where I couldn't see it and bam...melty lava.

Last night I roasted broccoli again sans chip clip but the lingering smell graced us with its presence which will hopefully dissipate with the next heat up or two.

  1. That was a tough one to guess. It took us a little investigation and analysis in order to figure out what happened. At least our brand new oven isn't completely destroyed by it. The smell will dissipate over time, lol.

  2. I was going to guess a candle, but then thought that was too obvious, not it.

    Plastic in oven or heater coil in dishwasher is a really terrible smell, hope it dissipates soon.

  3. I see it now. I thought it was something on your windshield not in your kitchen.

    I had the great Christmas cookie disaster of 2017. I made a ton of cookies on Christmas Eve, I was going to box them up and take them to a few friends on Christmas Day. They weren't ready to be boxed, so I piled them high on a plastic tray and put them in the oven to keep the cats out of them - the oven was the only place big enough to hold them all. I neglected to tell my mom, and when she came up in the morning she started the oven preheating for the sweet rolls. The entire tray melted, ruined 5 batches of cookies, and I had to replace the oven rack.

  4. I baked a ham one Christmas in the plastic! There was an overwrap that had the printing/label, etc on it I removed.
    Then there was a tight clear one i didn't notice until I removed the cooked ham from the oven. I was bringing the ham to our family holiday meal. My mom called and told everyone i dropped it taking out of the oven and that the dog got it!

  5. One of the first Thanksgivings I hosted I accidentally cooked the turkey with the giblet bag inside, plastic and all! Did we eat the turkey? Yes we did. And it was darn good, except for the waiting part to die from poisoning. It was another proud moment in the life of Woodsy.
