Halfway Through September Weekend Recap

Howdy-eth Do-eth?  Anyone else in the 90's today and the rest of this week?  🤬  It's like summer is getting out its last wrath or something.  Not to say when the calendar flips to 'official' Fall that it will suddenly drop in temps but I did see low 80's on the horizon even though my body is quite ready for 60's, sweatshirts and fuzzy socks.  But I know at least one or two Indian summers or whatever people younger than me in the PC realm call Satan bursts await in October.  I am happy to say I was able to get into the basement Friday and that pic from Friday's post is actually a reality on top!  It still looks like steaming garbage on the floor but I do what I can.   Saturday we decided to drive and find a Town de la Podunk and see what we could get into.  When we arrived at said place, we had a swing and a miss for an old fashioned donut shop.  For the love of God, they are not dinner rolls dunked in DQ chocolate dip cone sauce....

Hump Day Poll: Dreamin' of the Road

Spring gets me in the mood for road trips big and small.  Planning out the best route, going to Roadtrippers.com to see if there are any weird roadside attractions along the way, scouting how much you can cram in to get the most for your time.  It's both stressful and fun.

So that brings us to today's Hump Day Poll.

What are the most memorable road trips you've taken?  What is your ultimate road trip?

(For me it was our road trip to New England for the first time in 2014.  Ultimate would probably be either Yellowstone or Route 66 even though I have zero ideas of what there is to actually see!)

  1. New England is quite the road trip and even though I'd been to parts of New England before that, it was still pretty great seeing some of the jaw dropping beauty from Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Yellowstone would be epic too.

    1. That was an amazing trip and certainly started my love affair with New England!

  2. I went to Yellowstone last summer, and it was absolutely fantastic! It's huge. I knew it was big, but I had no idea the scale it really was. We stayed at a little place about 30 minutes outside the park, and then spent 2 full days in the park. We saw a lot, but skipped so much more. We saw a wolf on the way out the first night and I think that was the highlight of the trip.

I'd like to go to New England & Maine (in fall would be great, but I'd take any time but winter). I'd also like to get to all of the state and national parks in my state - but that's more of a long term project than a single road trip.

    1. I have to say winter in New England is downright magical and their roads are the best cleared we've ever encountered so don't let the potential for weather deter you. That said, mid to late October is the perfect time to visit. I PM'd you on SP.

  3. I took a three week road trip in my late teens and saw several states out west, so that was my longest road trip. Going up north is always the best trip because we find more places to discover. Probably my personal favorite was a spontaneous trip I took by myself that didn't take me really far (just up to Wisconsin) but I literally just got in my car and headed north with no specific place in mind. I ended up taking a road that lead me literally right to Lake Michigan and the most peaceful park right on the lake with crashing waves. I spent the night in a hotel but spent so much of my days there at that park and starting out at the most beautiful water with pretty sailboats, etc. I think I was about 20 or 21 when I did that. Loved it. As for my dream place, it would probably be to Banff Canada and the Banff National Park in Alberta and the Hot Springs.

    1. That sounds amazing! I've never thought to just drive and see where we end up. Lake Michigan is beautiful and so much like the ocean. I can't think of a bad spot to sit by! A friend of mine went to Banff park and it was stunning.

  4. My son and I drove across country - NC to northern CA, then down to Barstow & back across. It was amazing.

    1. That's awesome! There's nothing like seeing the country and getting out of your own neck of the woods.
