I know in April I griped about the cost of vegan/cruelty free makeup without parabens or grody stuff in them but I went ahead and took the plunge. I remembered I had money leftover from various birthday and Christmas booty from relatives and thought what better way to put it to use instead of forgetting about it?
Here's my haul:
A reader gave me the tip to check out PETA's list of cruelty free cosmetic companies so I did that and then I found that Vitacost carried many of them and for 15% off at the time! I like to shop through them because I can use Ebates.com (affiliate link) and get 4% back so that was like getting 20% off! Then if you order over $49, you get free shipping and I think I also searched online for coupon codes and found a 10% off coupon so I was feeling a little better about diving in head first.
I already use Andalou Naturals CC Sheer Nude (affiliate link) for my sunscreen/foundation needs and absolutely love it. So there was no need to buy anything on that front for me. But here's a list of what is in the picture:
Mineral Fusion Lip Gloss Lovely (affiliate link)
Mineral Fusion Eye Shadow Trio, Sultry (affiliate link)
Mineral Fusion Eye Shadow Trio, Rose Gold (affiliate link)
Gabriel Organics ZuZu Luxe Eyeliner -Slate
Gabriel Organics Zuzu Luxe Eyeshadow -Platinum (affiliate link)
Pacifica Aquarian Gaze Water Resistant Long Lash Mineral Mascara - Abyss (affiliate link)
Pacifica Sugared Fig Color Quench Lip Tint (affiliate link)
Pacifica Enlighten Eye Brightening Shadow Palette (affiliate link)
Honeybee Gardens Pressed Mineral Powder (affiliate link)
benecos Eyebrow-Designer: Brown (affiliate link)
Eco Tools Six Piece Starter Set (affiliate link)
I will say that it can be hard to get used to the smaller sizes where the eye shadow is concerned (especially Mineral Fusion) but I don't wear make up every day so I should be able to make it stretch. What I do love about them being so small is they're super easy to travel with so it won't take up a ton of room in my make up bag! See how I'm trying to accentuate the positive? :-)
So what made me decide to jump in? I read this article and couldn't believe how quick the levels dropped and I decided that second to make the leap.
We already made the switch to paraben and cruelty free lotions and potions. (As well as ones that contain artificial colors) That article just made me do a clean sweep and get rid of anything hanging out under the sink and in drawers:
Most of it was within a few months of expiring anyway but I thought it was so cute one day when I came home and found the face wash in the trash. The Mr said "I threw that away because it had parabens in it." So you can see he's on board with this.
There are plenty of things in our food that we can't control when we choose to eat out once a week and I can't do anything about that. But I am going to do something about what we choose to put on our bodies.
I will review the items I got very soon as I just put them to a one month test in the hot, humid and rainy conditions in Hawaii. I want to give them a week under my "normal" conditions to be able to give a well rounded review.
(I posted links to Amazon so you could see colors better but at the time I got a better deal using Ebates through Vitacost so if you buy, maybe do a comparison to get the best deal.)
Do/have you used any of the brands I bought? If so, how do you like them?

I own the EcoTools bush set and the Pacifica mascara, and I love both. Pacifica cosmetics are really high quality and have some beautiful colors in their palettes. My favorite eye shadow palette from their line is the Pacifica Power of Love Coconut Infused Mineral Eye Shadow Palette (http://www.target.com/p/pacifica-power-of-love-coconut-infused-mineral-eye-shadow-palette/-/A-16765768) and I also like their fragrances. I am going to check out the other products you listed - I am trying to buy more natural skincare and cosmetics because the more I learn about the stuff in most cosmetics, the less I want to put that mess on my skin! Thanks for the tips - keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteReally like the colors you have here. I'm all about the lips and am always looking for a good tinted gloss. I'll be taking a peek at this line. Thanks for sharing! Maybe I can find a good eyeliner (that actually glides) in an eggplant color.
ReplyDeleteI only wear make up to work (I think of it as part of my "battle armor). I have my preferred brands, but I'm fairly certain they have all kinds of junk in them. I'm too frugal (and too broke) to toss what I do have in the trash, but as they run out I'll start looking for less toxic replacements. A friend of mine sells Younique products which I think are all paraben free. Other sites say they are, I haven't been able to find that on their own product site but each of their products has a link to its ingredients.
ReplyDeleteYounique is far more expensive than I'm used to, but really not out of line with the costs I've seen elsewhere.
