Hump Day Poll: Never EVER again

source

What favor/project/thing will you never EVER do again?

Whether it's loaning your truck to help people move because it got damaged last time to starting a 1000 piece puzzle when you can barely finish a Melissa and Doug wood puzzle to trying to nail a Pinterest cake.  It can be anything.

I will never EVER in a million years do dark paint.  Ever. In. My. Life.

We are two weeks out and STILL do not have a complete bathroom.  Wanna know why?

Because not only am I having to sand and re-sand and spackle and re-spackle to fix what the ceiling jerks screwed up/didn't do to completion but when the painters tape was pulled off, it took paint from both the ceiling and the wall with it in chunks.  Yesterday I declared the original project off especially after hearing about the receiving process of the flooring and that we currently have nowhere to put it.  He didn't put up a fight so I guess I'll steam clean the carpets to get out the chunks of ceiling matted into it and lay down the area rug I got over our crappy carpet and admit defeat before I start.  This "additional" project has broken me in a way I cannot even convey.  I'm going to use the bright lights from now on to hide everything I hate in the bathroom that is still wrong.  To quote Phil from Groundhog Day "I've reached the end of me Rita" and I have.

While that part had nothing to do with dark paint, allow me to explain the dark paint hatred.  Even a full week after painting if I have water on my finger from washing my hands and touch the wall, blue will end up on my finger.  I know it takes a month to fully cure and maybe any of you dark paint folk can reassure me that yes, that is only temporary (or laugh in my face and say "hope you don't have white towels!" (we do) ) but I will never in my life paint anything dark again.

Bonus:  Because the painters tape pulled off paint and caulk around the tub, chair rail and all around the bathroom, I now have to re-caulk it all.  Not to mention I want to throat punch past us who thought it would be a good idea to fully spackle and paint over two plastic wall anchors in the bedroom because I'm sure we thought no one would see it and it would be future us's problem.

Hello future.

  1. My mom asked me to build a replacement computer (her words) for her. I basically built her a new one from scratch with the most affordable parts humanly possible. When I went to set it up at her house she finally told me it was her laptop she wanted replaced. I had no idea she had ever even owned a laptop at that point, so one of my other brothers probably helped her set that up. After I left I repeated to myself several times - NEVER AGAIN. She can call whichever brother helped her set up the laptop from now on.

    1. OMG, I remember that! That was not cool at all and if I remember correctly, she hasn't called you for crap like that again! LOL

  2. I am so sorry this has been such a nightmare. Literally from day one with that company you've been doing clean up and additional things to do a whole lot of fixing. That just sucks!!!

Two things I won't do again. First, painting and/or wallpapering a room. Small jobs (such as the outside trim around the front door I need to do this summer) yes, I'll do that. But never again will I do an entire room again after too many problem experiences to count. Second, I will never again book a vacation rental without knowing the square footage of the house/cabin and also taking a much more careful look at the furniture in the pictures. I distinctly remember two vacations that were a nightmare because of the housing. One I didn't pay attention to the furniture enough and although the house was quite large, the furniture was very old and rickety. The second cabin was in TN and we were in a very rough season in life and I just booked what "looked" like a cute place without paying to the particulars because my mind was weighing elsewhere. Well, that's when I learned about the art of using an extended camera lens to make rooms appear much larger. This cabin was a shoebox and aside from the nice bathroom, it was a nightmare. By far the worst vacation (for various reasons) we've ever been on. Every other time I took great care of paying attention to details, but the two times I didn't burned us bad.

    1. Oh and I just saw this morning after the test coat of paint on the ceiling I cannot live with what remains so more spackle and sanding for me since the Mr agreed it is atrocious. (If it was good enough, he would've said it was fine and be done.)

I so hear you on the vacation rentals! There is nothing worse than desperately needing to just plop your crap down and relax to have stuff so dilapidated you don't even want to touch it. They like to take pics at the most flattering angles and keep the shutter open really long so it looks like light is just pouring in. LIES! The biggest thing to look at in addition to pics are reviews. I'm not talking the bad ones either. Because VRBO and AirBnB have allowed owners to now rate *you* as a guest, people are afraid to leave anything less than 5 stars. So check those five star reviews for phrases like "my only suggestions would be", "owner was very responsive to problems" and "we had problems with X but will definitely stay here again." (No you won't.) I *ALWAYS* have to end up doing deep cleaning or jerry rigging something on day one. I can count on one hand how many times I haven't and that's even with days/weeks of research!
