Midweek Check In

Happy Hump Day to you and yours!  Anyone else having a case of the "short week feels longer than a regular week" yet or does that hit tomorrow? Unfortunately, Monday afternoon the tweens/teens found the pool not too far from the abode so we got to listen to the hootings of young, insecure males attempting to show off for both girls and their fellow brethren.  I'm really hoping this is just some cousins visiting or something for the weekend because I know of only one teen boy here and he's a loner.  Is pool season over yet?   It always starts strong like this and then typically dies down within a month but what an irritating month it is until then.  We did some more work out on the patio Monday.  It was going to be the last sunny day before two days of forecasted rain...again.  I made sure to get the new picket painted and hung to cover this delightful sight: When the picket was off, I could see how bad the support 2x4's looked on the fence.  ...

Hump Day Poll: Who Is Lookin' at Yours

Let's talk hoo-ha's.  Vaginas.  Bearded clam.  Etc.  (Or prostates, teabags, twig and berries.)

My first gynecologist was a dude.  An old dude.  My mom's gynie because obviously when I went to her telling her some cad (the Mr) and I were thinking of doing the deed, she wanted me on the pill.  I got in within a week which is unheard of these days.  I walked in and waited in my paper gown until the first man to see the secret garden bounded in.

Do you remember Larry "Bud" Melman from early Letterman?  Let me refresh your memory:

Needless to say, after two years of visits with him, I came to the conclusion this man who told me PMS was "in my head" at 18 that I was not going to have someone looking at my parts that did own the same ones.  I switched to a lady doctor with another name and began mouth leaking about how he didn't listen to me so I had to switch to a woman.  She laughed and said "I know exactly what you mean, I have to listen to it when I'm at home, he's my husband."  (She was young enough to be his daughter and didn't have the same last name so there was no way for me to assume that.)  She thought it was funny and we had a great relationship until she retired to teach which devastated me.

Ever since then, I definitely knew whomever I ended up with would need to be a woman.  I just don't trust men as I approach menopause especially the more I hear things like women of menopausal ages coming in for help and they write WW in the file.  "Whining Woman."  Oh, you mean like the same whining woman who pushed your wide shoulders out of her vagina and after growing your pea brain for 9 months?  Gotcha.

Who is looking at your bits?  Why did you make that decision?

  1. For years i drove 150 miles to Iowa to go to my out of network midwife(small hands!). Also gave me a chance to see Mom when she was in Iowa. When she retired, I finally got a local pcp. It started rough because I only saw her as follow up to ER visits. She suggested I take a more preventative view of my health and have routine physicals. She became my go to and then I learned she can also do the girl stuff so she doesn't that too. I had to switch to another dr when a job only had hmo and she didn't take it.
As soon as I got ppo I went back. She has become a friend and was the one who pushed for hubs to go to mayo when tge local hemotologist failed him.
I text her whenever someone in my life has a baffling health issue. My appointments are late afternoon because we sit and catch up on each other's lives for an hour after the medical stuff is done. She has held my hand through hubby and Mom's journeys.

  2. I still think it's funny that you ended up with that other Doctors' wife but she was a great person to have in your life for many years. Sad to see her go but I do feel like the one you have now has got your back, even if she's a little more crass.

    1. Yes I was devastated when she retired out of the blue then recommended her partner and then stole her for teaching three years later. Thankfully after a complete dud in between, I found this one and yes, I've never had a doctor swear more than I do! šŸ˜†

  3. The best one I had is the one who did my hysterectomy. After she left I needed to find someone and ended up going back to a former place. The NP I had was horrendous and did a pelvic exam and swabbed in under 30 seconds and jammed that scapula in so hard I yelled. Had to remind her I didnt need the swabs because I had no cervix but had one ovary to check, which she did not. I never went back and two months later they closed. My genetics nurse referred me to an NP whose name sounds familiar, so i need to call to make an appt for August. She'll be about 20 minutes away, so that's not bad. Just need to navigate my way around since it's a big campus.

  4. I have had both. Been to several doctors over the last few years. Not impressed by any. Yeah being told it's complicated but offering no solutions isn't what I need. Sadly I believe there aren't many really qualified doctors.

    1. It is amazing how UNIMPRESSIVE and truly uncaring doctors there are out there and I'm sorry you seem to have met your share of them.
