What I'm Reading This Week #18

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to May.  We had a long week of getting the garage together so the Mr could finally park in it six weeks later.  We still have some work to do in there as far as purging and such but we needed to get the space useable again since it's been a holding tank for our old countertop/sink, old grill waiting to be picked up by a friend, insulation, built planters and patio table and extra fencing from critter cages.  We haven't had the mental drive to figure out how we get the shelves in order.  I think I'm going to have to look up some garage organizing articles or something because it's really overwhelming to look at it all.  If we can get a plan together to tackle it then maybe we'll have our weekend plans for next weekend as long as it's not hot yet because we don't want to be in a sweatbox. Now let's peek into: Dietitians Agree, Eating More Might Be the Secret to Your Strongest Year Ever   (Volume eating FTW.  It's been ...

What I'm Reading This Week #16

Good Friday to you!  Literally.  I can't believe Easter is here.  Anyone else having epic wind and rain storms over the past month?  I mean good friggin' luck trying to enjoy any time out there and we're not afraid of weather.  As I type, there are 40mph gusts.  I went out to paint the critter cages on the planters and feel like I have hypothermia at 47 degrees when yesterday's weather forecast said it would be 74 today.  Da fuq?  Guess who finally took the bedroom Christmas tree down Wednesday?  It was neutrally decorated so it was fine but it came on every night and gave a cozy glow.  I knew one day I would look at it and know it needed to go to sleep until November 1st.  That's the other thing, I will be decorating for everything extra early from now on.  August 1st- Fall decor as I will thoroughly be over summer by then and given that's the day Mom passed, I'll need something to lift my spirits.  November 1st it'll be all about Christmas because it's a late Thanksgiving again this year and it always makes the season feel way shorter.

Welp, today is carpet on the stairs day.  I spent a nice little chunk of time yesterday making new curse words while removing the treads we "temporarily" put on.  (Are they still temporary 6 months later??)  They're supposed to be here at 10am and be done by 3pm.  I cannot wait to be done with that as it is the last big project flapping in the wind from the past 2 years.  I'm so over walking on cheap stair treads that collect every speck of dirt/sawdust, etc and having zero sound dampening from carpet from Sir Slams a Lot next door.  (Not that I expect there to be some major improvement with it installed.  He has proven to be soundproof resistant on every level so I give up.)  At this point, I just want comfort under mah tootsies as we ascend and descend on the daily.  The only other projects we'll have at that point are the newel post which we had to put off because of the amount of contractors coming in and out.  A few trim pieces to be reattached and eventually the curtain rod hung over the slider with stuff I bought before the wind got kicked out from under us financially and thank God because I'd never pay those prices now.  I'm grateful we bought all of that stuff before and have it in hoard mode.

Now let's hop into:

7 Exercises Trainers Say You Can Skip —and Why (Good to know as we eye adding strength training back in soon.)

7 Ways to Organize Your Home Without Spending Any Money  (Good tips!  Save those jars and boxes.  Spruce 'em up with any scrapbooking paper or wrapping paper you might have on hand!)

Six Unexpected Reasons Your Utility Bills Are Huge  (Mr- check our water heater for the temp setting)

U.S. Postal Service Recommends New Prices for July (For God's sake, seriously?!?  You know the reason people use it less is because of cost and complete unreliability.  I'm still super ticked they lost a card my friend sent me in support of our job situation as I treasure every card I get.  So I guess stock up on stamps if you want to roll the dice since it could be taken over as well and who knows if they'd even honor stamps anymore.)

The Surprisingly Controversial Origins of the Easter Bunny  (Interesting read for the holiday weekend)

Well, I am going to be in a bit of an emotional mourning after last night's 9-1-1 I was blindsided by.  I won't spoil it but Six Feet Under fans should brace themselves.

It's Easter weekend, we celebrate on Saturday instead of waiting until Sunday because we're adults.  But boy do I miss the days of dressing up in patent leather shoes, dainty gloves, a bonnet and finding my basket behind the stereo speaker.  Maybe I can talk the Mr into hiding ours to get nostalgic?  Then again, it's Aunt Flo week and you don't separate a woman and her Lindt bunny at that point!  šŸ˜†   I hope you all enjoy your holiday if you celebrate or your weekend if you don't.

What's on tap for your weekend my peeps?

  4. A quiet Easter lunch. I am hoping it won't be raining in the morning so we can get our walk in. We did our first of the season last Sunday. Holidays are not the same as we got older. Of course I will use Mother's dishes. Easter & Christmas were her holidays.
