Low Key Easter Weekend Recap

Y'all it almost happened.  It seemed like it was almost a perfect carpet install.  Then the dude grabbed a broom and swept all of the carpet on top, swept the floor, then swept the stairs going downstairs.  Thanks for taking our clean carpet and giving it a fresh layer of unknown dust and dirt all over it.  Then we looked when they left and saw a gap by the baseboard on the landing we weren't happy with and I know they had to have seen it so I fear shoe molding is in our future which we hate.  The final "of course?"  We had a TON left.  Like enough to recarpet another set of stairs easily.  Uh, why are you sending someone out to measure to give us a quote and we have enough left over to carpet another set of stairs and have enough of another piece for a big strip in front of the washer and dryer.  This goes well beyond the "10% waste" they have you get.   (It stretches 2/3 the length of our basement) So begins the process of trying...

Long Lunch Date Weekend Recap

Howdy do all.  Back at the top of the week again.  Why are the weekends barreling at warp speed this year?  Sigh.

Saturday we did what was essentially a 3 hour lunch date.

I couldn't handle being around the house anymore this weekend and we live in the center of "no exciting places to road trip" central.  We headed to Portillo's and there's a little park we like to walk at since it was a nice day.

Then we basically turned around and headed home after being there for 2 hours.  I know, a lot of time wasted for that but once we got there, it was nice to see other scenery and eat different food.  What wasn't nice was the fact that because I didn't have a project or TV show for distraction, I was in a pretty heavy mental spiral.  The projects have been coping mechanisms for some serious Mom stuff coming up, job worries are kicking into high gear, frustration with trying to keep all of these seedlings alive, the house being a total mess, knowing our cancelled vacation time is coming up and feeling a little (lot) bitter about it because I feel trapped here and desperately need a change of scenery.  Lots of self worth issues and delightful nasty speak that had me in tears behind my sunglasses so I had to start humming songs to distract myself again.  Thankfully it didn't happen on the way back so that was a plus.

Scenes from the highway

Someone decided to push the gas tank to the absolute limit.

We got home and immediately the Mr put screws and caulk in the downstairs steps because they sound horrible after almost 30 years.  It was evident we'd need to let the caulk dry overnight and try again Sunday now that we'd have a base to build off of.  We won't likely have another shot at this for a minimum of 10+ years so we need to do it now.  Then it was our usual of zoning out in front of the tube.

Sunday, yet again, I was awakened by what I'm calling my 6am WTF dreams which means I'm up for the day.  (After getting to sleep around 2am). I'm really hoping this pattern goes away if I can ever get the house to a clean state.  It hasn't been clean since January because of the constant revolving door of projects.  This week is crunch time and I can feel that functional freeze wanting to kick in because where do you put things when EVERYTHING is a mess so nothing has a home.  We haven't worked out in two weeks and I know we need to but again, downstairs is a holding ground where we do formal workouts but there's no excuse for not going for walks except laziness and mental kaputedness.  In March, I lost a pound.  I'm far from the 10-15K steps I was cranking out on the daily and I hope to get back to that soon.  I need to remind myself not to go straight back to that number or I'll regret it.

We had some coffee while watching the Peacock special Becoming A Spectacle of the first behind the scenes of Wrestlemania 9.  It was an amazing watch for a wrestling fan or if you had kids into wrestling back in the day.  (1992)   Then it was brunch time while watching Sunday Morning like the middle agers we are.  The intention was to get stuff done and the reality is we did not.  We prioritized watching the 40th reunion of The Breakfast Club cast (Emilio was finally there!) and then it was time for a phone call with my friend and that was almost 90 minutes and welp, that pretty much did it for the day.  WHOOPS!  I know what that means- we've just made it harder on ourselves the next few days but I guess we needed a complete rest weekend so we did.  I'm not going to beat myself up over it though today me might be grumbling under her breath.

What did you do this weekend?

  1. It was good to get away even for half the day. Those of you who have a Portillo's in your area are very lucky! So good!

    1. I really wish they hadn't raised the price of the Street Polish shipping box by $20 and then omit the onions since we never had a problem with them. But I guess given what we spent on gas and food that would actually be the same amount. Hashtag justification. LOL

  2. Glad you got out and about, hope you had a chocolate cake shake! I struggle with feeling guilty if I am not productive on the weekend. Still working on learning to relax. Got my peepers checked, glasses ordered, pawdicure, transferred new ride plates, Costco run, pond filter cleaned, laundry, manic Amazon ordering blitz, watched Ferris, watched the proposal, chatted up Mom's bestie then finished off by making myself a filet on the grill, yum! One year at the job now, wondering if my boss knows lol.
    Have a great week!
    P.s. You ARE enough xo

    1. I didn't but now that you've recommended it, I'll mentally bookmark it for us to split! Well you certainly were productive enough for both of us this weekend! :) Congrats on your one year anniversary. (Thank you. Maybe one day I'll believe it. No one mentally punches harder than I do.)
