We've been waiting for this since September and so have some of you! I'm the kind of person that needs a calming environment and while this may look busy in comparison to the rest of the house, it is still a very calming space for me. It is a complete departure from anything we've ever done including out first foray into wallpaper and color drenching. A resource list will follow after the pictures. I will skip the jibber jabber and get straight to it.
Welcome to the new tinkletorium!

Yep, we went dark.
The thought of trying to
cut in on a white ceiling was not in my mental wheelhouse this go round. The darker ceiling cap kind of required we go dark on the ceiling because when it was installed against the primed white ceiling, it looked like an abyss waiting for the aliens to abduct you. (Not that many of us wouldn't welcome that ride right now anyway but when my friend saw it in that state she gasped and was like "OMG, it looked like the night sky!") We wondered if it would make it feel like a hole in there but it doesn't, at least not to us and we're the only ones who are gonna use it.
The bold wallpaper is something I never in a million years thought I would ever go for and I'm going to be honest, it is not the color I thought it would be in person. On my laptop, the leaves looked very emerald green to me. They aren't. Even on these pictures, it doesn't convey how blue they are. It's still pretty but this is always why you get samples.
See the picture of the lady on the left (the Victorian equivalent of scrolling your phone whilst on the commode).
She's got secrets yo.
That project was a complete shitshow on so many levels. We were reusing the shell of the cabinet and it gave us so many problems but we had to make it work. The black wallpaper on the shelves and the back made it pretty dark in there and the Mr was having a hard time seeing in there. š The motion sensor light inside solved that problem and is easy to recharge.
Ze view from the shower:
The sink may look different from the mockup I showed yesterday because it was based on reusing our old sink. Honestly, there's nothing wrong with it but after having a vessel sink for 15 years, we thought maybe we'd go undermount this time. I'm not gonna lie, it takes a little getting used to but it makes the exact same surface area with the new quartz countertop feel so big.
The gallery rail was the final project which was almost cut but I am SO glad we didn't.
It was truly the crowning touch for us and I was able to find a tutorial that used brass lamp parts and a dowel rod so it came in at under $80. If you got the real thing, it would be well over $500 for the rail alone. You try to get them attached on a shelf for half the size of ours and you could pay that price or more.
I put some English antiques I had waiting for the perfect place.
Here's the inside of the shower. We got two big ol' niches to keep our stuff
See all that trim in the corner and up at the top? We got that for free because our dipshit contractors apparently couldn't be trusted to cut it too close and now they require it for all bathroom installs. Did I mention we were the guinea pigs? Yep, first dopes to say yes but the trim definitely makes it look way nicer and we got about $500 worth of trim for their mistakes.
Time to lather up:
The attic hatch was always a source of bubbling once the ceiling was skimmed. I wasn't dealing with it again so I thought I'd do a complimentary painted wallpaper we could paint to match the ceiling.
We absolutely love it and hope we put enough glue on it to keep it on there forever.
So, there it is. Six friggin' unintentional months in the making. We are so happy and relieved to be done with it. It weirdly reminds me of like a 1930's theater bathroom. The Mr said it feels classy to him so I'm glad he likes it.

Love it, love it, love it!!! I as m a fan of dark colors and this is truly beautiful. I'm soooooo happy this is done for you guys now, and you can know it was worth all the blood, sweat, and tears every time you go in there. Magnificent job!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Literal blood, sweat and tears. I remember crying over the panel paint, sweating while caulking contorted and I still have a 1" permanent red scar on my arm from falling into porcelain shards and those are just from me! The Mr's sweat and blood are in there too so you could clone us! It always seems the smallest space give you the most problems. So glad you like it and thanks for being our sounding board while going through it! š
DeleteI do hope people like it but I am more concerned about us liking it and I do. I'm proud of the work we put in to get it done but not it did fight us. Just makes it even more special in some way.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a departure but you seemed to be on board once seeing the mockup so that made it better feeling like you weren't being forced into it!
DeleteAbsolutely love it! I would be sitting in there with such a smile on my face just looking at everything! Getting ready to do a bathroom remodel later this year, we've been talking about it for over a year and it desperately needs to be done. Seeing the results of yours is making me want to start now!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I do like to just take it all in sometimes especially with everything it took to finally get there. And girl, if the motivation strikes, I say go for it because our motivation was strong and we were kickin' butt before the shower people got involved. Then when it turn into a 'had to do' it was much less fun. You'll have to send over some pics when you're done!
DeleteThe bathroom is gorgeous! I love the brass rail!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn! We do too- I'm so glad we did it!
Delete5/5 Would poop here!
ReplyDeleteIt's stunning! I love all the details, especially the medicine cabinet and the gallery and rail.
You def have a gift for creating a vision and making it a reality!
Thank you for sharing, I woke up early today and this is the first thing I am seeing!
Have a great project free weekend!
šš, so glad you find it deuceworthy! Thanks so much for the kind words. Mom and grandma had a knack for interior design so I guess they passed it down. I am definitely looking forward to at least one day project free! Give Elmer a booty scratch for me! š¾
