The Bold Bathroom Reveal

We've been waiting for this since September and so have some of you!  I'm the kind of person that needs a calming environment  and while this may look busy in comparison to the rest of the house, it is still a very calming space for me.  It is a complete departure from anything we've ever done including out first foray into wallpaper and color drenching.  A resource list will follow after the pictures.  I will skip the jibber jabber and get straight to it.   Welcome to the new tinkletorium! . . . . . . Yep, we went dark.   The thought of trying to cut in on a white ceiling was not in my mental wheelhouse this go round.  The darker ceiling cap kind of required we go dark on the ceiling because when it was installed against the primed white ceiling, it looked like an abyss waiting for the aliens to abduct you.  (Not that many of us wouldn't welcome that ride right now anyway but when my friend saw it in that state she gasped and was ...

Short and Sweet Weekend Recap

Good Monday morrow to you all.  I hopeth thee hath much tomfoolery to reminisce upon from thine weekend.  (Damn that would be exhausting to talk like that all of the time.)

We've had biblical rain all week and weekend so road tripping would've been out of the question.  No one wants to drive on slick roads for hours so we were stuck at home.  I am pretty sure unless it's for pizza, we're done eating out for a while.  I got so ticked trying to order from a new place and all of the hoops they wanted you to jump through that I said screw it and the Mr was ticked too and said they were shysters.  ($42 for what equates to Chinese takeout "bowl".  Nope.)   Then he mentioned a BBQ place and I was resistant because BBQ always makes me sick, without question.  I relented because we'd spent 20 minutes trying to find a place by that time and were both getting irritated.  Not like we spent less than we would have if we'd gone to the other place but more food.  It was instantly regrettable and within 20 minutes my innards were twisting and I was pounding Tums to keep everything stable.  Why do I always agree to something I know doesn't sit well with me?  Because it was rainy, we kind of let half the day drift away from us.  Finally, I said we needed to get the scrap 2x4's for a table I wanted to make cut.  I hunted around and found an expensive sample of some Ecos British Chestnut stain I got several years ago.  I thought I might have just enough for the tabletop boards with their 2 oz sample.  The staining conditions were not ideal as it was humid from the rain but I figured I could stain them and bring them inside since Ecos has no VOCs and doesn't smell and they could dry overnight before I sealed them.

Tucked in for the night on yet another makeshift surface.

Sunday was really just me continuing to stain (paint really, it's solid stain) and seal the pieces for the table.  We're going to use this guide for making it but we've got folding hinges for the legs so we can slide it under our patio loveseat so it can be out of the way.  The table that came with the set is really short so we've needed these risers for over 10 years to even attempt to make it a proper eating height.  While they help, you're still kind of hunched over.  So I thought if we could make one that slides under the couch, we could stop trying to figure out where the hell to store the table, it would fold up and we could make it the height that suits us.  Sounds good in theory.  We'll see if we've wasted our time or not.  Don't tell the Mr but I'm thinking about raiding the piggy bank for $4.17 to get a 2x4 to make this stool since I have a poop ton of black stain left and the spot where the current table is would fit that perfectly to sit a cup of coffee in the morning and a flower pot.  We'll see if he goes for it.  Other than that, we had Alone Australia on our Netflix watch list and since the hours were ticking down, we decided to binge that in between coats.   I'm hoping to get all of the coats done today to be able to bring them inside tonight and maybe put them together after work or something.  I'm really hoping the concept of being able to fold it all up works because it would be ideal and it could potentially double as a seat for someone since each hinge holds 500 lbs.

That's about it on our end.

What did you guys do this weekend?

  1. I have never been a person who spent any part of a weekend cutting 2x4's before. I am looking forward to our table though because every time we use it will be a great feeling so that's cool. Hope everyone has a good week!

  3. Sounds like a fun project with the table! Foldables are the best. Weekend was nice. Got my chores done in the timeframe I gave myself, and was able to relax quite a bit, which I really need mentally. Had snow blowing sideways this morning so that was odd. lol
