Y'all it almost happened. It seemed like it was almost a perfect carpet install. Then the dude grabbed a
broom and swept all of the carpet on top, swept the floor, then swept the stairs going downstairs. Thanks for taking our clean carpet and giving it a fresh layer of unknown dust and dirt all over it. Then we looked when they left and saw a gap by the baseboard on the landing we weren't happy with and I know they had to have seen it so I fear shoe molding is in our future which we hate. The final "of course?" We had a TON left. Like enough to recarpet another set of stairs easily. Uh, why are you sending someone out to measure to give us a quote and we have enough left over to carpet another set of stairs and have enough of another piece for a big strip in front of the washer and dryer. This goes well beyond the "10% waste" they have you get.

So begins the process of trying to get a refund on the overage and I'm sure you know how that'll go. We're talking we're owed at least $200 from the amount we have left. So we responded to the survey letting them know there was a problem and got a flustered 'bro' on the other end about how shocked he was about getting a "red" feedback instead of green. The Mr explained the gap issue and he basically said because berber is a shorter pile is why and we'd have to lower our baseboards. Um, not possible mon frere. We can't push down the part of the baseboard that fits, has ALWAYS fit under two different carpets there because it will never line up again. I can literally feel there is no tack strip back as far as it needed to go. I know the wall is bowed but that has nothing to do with the height of the concrete on the bottom. Then the Mr explained the obscene amount of carpet we have left. He was told it was "free" because it was the end of the roll. Bullshit. No mill in their right mind is going to give you a free 5x15 carpet, they're just not. So Home Depot was the next line of calls made because all I could hear over the line is a bunch of excuses from the installer. It's this very reason we went through a middleman.
Then it was a call to the customer liaison about having a mondo roll left and she said the amount left over sounded like they ordered way too much, blah blah. He told her we had a picture so she said to send that over and she would work on it Monday. So we went down and unfurled the extra. 15' x 4.67'. Enough to do another entire staircase! We ain't paying for that. So send some vibes out that this is taken care of quickly and we can get some friggin' money back because by my measurements, we're owed $581 if we had enough to do 3 staircases and still had some extra. To try to cheer us up, I went ahead with the celebratory dinner I already had planned which was takeout Longhorn that can fit into our calories. When we unveiled our dinners after eating our salads, both of our meals were wrong. *zing!* Nothing like being the comic strip for the cosmos.
Saturday was our Easter and I had a bit of a headache. We had coffee then started our marathon of Alone season 4 before throwing together Easter lunch. Note to self: don't get Aldi Neufchatel cream cheese again. It just tastes too weird compared to Philly and kind of ruined the cheeseball. Sigh. To get some digestion going after we saw the
wench next door left, we went out on patio I stuffed the
backer rod into the gaps under the blind I wanted to take down. He hung our
outdoor art, planters and the Mr got the gate table scootched over to be able to open. The lettuce planter is out there and filled now. Just need to harden off those and the radishes this week. It was so nice being able to be out there without her coming out and having long, thought provoking conversations with her dog like she's expecting an answer for 2 hours. We just watched TV most of the day and that was that. Thrilling.
Sunday I still had a tension headache. We did some bed rotting and had a banana and coffee trying to get rid of the ham bloat from the day before. Eventually we made our way downstairs and we did a pickup and went to Mom and Grandma's 'condo's' to put
new flowers on the grave for spring. We stopped by Home Depot to just poke around the garden center so we weren't home all day. Nothing too impressive yet though I did see some pine straw that I'm considering for mulch for the garden. That was it for the day. As you can see, nothing major here. Just low key and longing for the Easter's of old as we'd drive by homes full of cars and people in the back yard. No one tells you how fast those go away.
How was your weekend?

The saga continues as usual. I do love the carpet otherwise but I'm looking forward to seeing it resolved. Here's to another week in the trenches!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for the sagas to be OVER with!! I really need to check the front of the house before contractors come over to see if we have a "screw them over, it'll be fun" sign they read on the way in. Sucks every ounce of joy out of everything we get.
DeleteLove the carpet! Hopefully they get it fixed. I had a visitor from Iowa. Board games and steaks on the grill Saturday. Yesterday I primed and repainted a wall that has been holey since I did a wall Christmas tree in 2022.
ReplyDeleteI miss the egghunts woth my boys. Holidays remind ne if how solitary my life is.
Have a great week!
That sounds like a wonderful Easter weekend and I'm sure it's nice having the holes all patched up. I remember that tree, it looked cute for what it's worth! Same here. Sigh.
DeleteI hope the carpet situation gets resolved with no haggling. Just good honest help and a refund. Weekend was a bit busy. Church Friday night, errands and house stuff in Saturday, hubs worked yesterday, and I went to Easter breakfast at church and the service afterwards. Did her to relax for a while Sunday afternoon so that felt good.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both! I'm glad you were able to celebrate Easter with that breakfast and got to kick up your tootsies in the afternoon!
DeleteIt was a nice quiet weekend. I hope you get your refund. I am so sorry the contractor you used was terrible. We did several different projects & when there was an issue they were quick to resolve. I am glad we don't have any in our future. Those kind of headaches I don't need.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a quiet weekend to enjoy! We've got an appt for the gap to be fixed thankfully. Funny thing is, they were really good on 95% of it and screwed the pooch on what should've been the easiest part!
