Survival Mode Put Us Back to Zero

A lot of you came here many moons ago when I left Sparkpeople.  I loved the community of that place and the support I got there.  It was at the height of us being on our game.  That motivation you have in the beginning when you're consistently rewarded with weight loss, smaller clothes, compliments to keep your motivation high and you somehow begin to step out of being invisible to the public to people smiling at you, opening doors or striking up conversation.  You start to feel human.  You don't have to worry about going to restaurants or 'fitting' somewhere.  You can go to a wedding and see those God awful thin folding chairs and while you still don't like them, you're not concerned.  Many of your worries that fit people never had to think of, have faded away.  We started for the long haul in our 30's and that's when we had the most success, losing 226 and 190 lbs respectively.  When we went on vacation, as long as we came back and got rig...

Hump Day Poll: Newsworthy?

If that brings you warm fuzzies, you're welcome.  If you don't know what the heck that's referring to, then you might be too young to understand most of my references here and should probably brush up!

We are going on year 9 of not having watched the news.  I remember the last time we went to Kauai in 2016 (holy crap, that makes me want to cry) we didn't watch the news once and couldn't believe how much happier we were.  We decided to see how long we could push it and here we are almost a decade later.

It's enough to be inundated on internet sites on the hourly with the latest dumpster fire lit that should have nothing to do with the kind of stuff it's reporting but to voluntarily watch the news just is not something I have in me.  I rarely watch live tv because of the commercials (well more commercials) but I left it on once a few years ago when a show I was watching went live and the news came on right after.  I wasn't watching it but could hear it and the first three stories were about murders, assaults and such and then went into national crap and I immediately turned it off.  It infiltrates whether you're actively paying attention or not.  People say those who don't stay up to date are ignorant.  Fine.  I'm ignorant.

We've been worried about enough the past 2 1/2 months with what directly affects and could affect us to pile on the rest of it.  At this point, I look outside and if that flaming asteroid I occasionally heard about hasn't hit yet then trudging on another day.  I need to find ways to look for joy, not confirm how horrible I feel everything is on the daily.  It's the one thing I listen to Morrisey about.

Do you watch the news, get everything online or do you try not to read/watch any news if you can help it?

  1. I thought i was the only one lol! I don't watch any news and almost no tv. No live tv ever. I used to watch before work everyday and left for work agitated and depressed so i stopped so many years ago i cant even remember but its definitely at least 15 years. I only check news sites if someone mentions something to me or i see a comment online. I remember someone asking me what i thought about the fires in Hawaii and i had no clue. Ignorance is bliss lol.

  3. I haven't watched the news in s long, long time. I don't read about it either unless it's something specific I want to know about (local construction, restaurant opening/closing, th as t type of thing). Im not a scroller because I don't like the rabbit holes I go down.
I also don't watch nor have internet in the popular tv shows. The stuff I like to watch is stuff a lot of people aren't interested in. When I hear references to current shows or characters I have no clue what they're taking about. Lol

  4. I don't watch the news since frankly it isn't. I do keep up on some basics such as weather, health & music but that is it. I spend more time reading & spending time outdoors. Life is what we make it & frankly I chose happiness.
