Survival Mode Put Us Back to Zero

A lot of you came here many moons ago when I left Sparkpeople.  I loved the community of that place and the support I got there.  It was at the height of us being on our game.  That motivation you have in the beginning when you're consistently rewarded with weight loss, smaller clothes, compliments to keep your motivation high and you somehow begin to step out of being invisible to the public to people smiling at you, opening doors or striking up conversation.  You start to feel human.  You don't have to worry about going to restaurants or 'fitting' somewhere.  You can go to a wedding and see those God awful thin folding chairs and while you still don't like them, you're not concerned.  Many of your worries that fit people never had to think of, have faded away.  We started for the long haul in our 30's and that's when we had the most success, losing 226 and 190 lbs respectively.  When we went on vacation, as long as we came back and got rig...

Review: Trader Joe's Thai Sweet Chili Veggie Burger

When we started our weight loss efforts, I thought I would give soy Boca Burgers a try.  Boca's are okay and while they certainly don't taste like regular burgers, they come sufficiently close with fixins. (I'm really selling 'em, aren't I?)

I don't know why but the thought of having veggie burgers made with, you know, other veggies or black beans just sounded gross to me.  I have no idea why.  But as time went on, I wanted to see if there were tastier options out there.  So I decided to throw these in the cart on a TJ's run:

I used to just microwave my Boca's out of convenience but decided I could make the rest of my lunch while these cooked on a skillet.  But you can see, there are several ways you can get them from package to burger hole...

Here's the nutritional info...while the calories are about 60 calories higher than the Boca's I was used to, the sodium was better by 80mg and that was my goal along with taste.

Here's a gander at the ingredients...

Each burger comes individually wrapped.

I turned the skillet on medium, gave a squirt of canola spray and slapped the burger in there.

After 5 minutes, I turned it over and let it cook for 4 more minutes until it was a nice crusty brown like this.

Since I treat myself to King's Hawaiian Sweet Bread Buns once a week, this seemed like a perfect vehicle for this along with some mixed greens.

HOLY. CRAP!

WHY did I not try these sooner!?!?  They are amazing.  I wish I could even describe the taste to you other than yum...delish...veggie-gasm.  Does it taste like a burger?  No.  You're never going to mistake this for beef but it tastes so much better as a sandwich in general.  It's great by itself or with your favorite condiment.  You could also easily use this as taco meat, in wraps, spring rolls or topping a salad.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, get these!  I promise you won't regret it!

(I should also mention because it's Trader Joe's don't get used to it either since they like to yank products and break your heart.)

  2. They gets points for individually wrapping these! The frozen mahi mahi and salmon burgers are 2 to a pack with 2 packs inside. I think the bison is all 4 in one pack!

I think I'll give them a shot next time I go to TJs!
