Survival Mode Put Us Back to Zero

A lot of you came here many moons ago when I left Sparkpeople.  I loved the community of that place and the support I got there.  It was at the height of us being on our game.  That motivation you have in the beginning when you're consistently rewarded with weight loss, smaller clothes, compliments to keep your motivation high and you somehow begin to step out of being invisible to the public to people smiling at you, opening doors or striking up conversation.  You start to feel human.  You don't have to worry about going to restaurants or 'fitting' somewhere.  You can go to a wedding and see those God awful thin folding chairs and while you still don't like them, you're not concerned.  Many of your worries that fit people never had to think of, have faded away.  We started for the long haul in our 30's and that's when we had the most success, losing 226 and 190 lbs respectively.  When we went on vacation, as long as we came back and got rig...

Hobbly Weekend Recap

Hello Monday.  The start of a new week is upon us.

The Mr's back was not happy and getting worse Friday so he had to break down and go to the chiropractor.  He said it's the ligament that runs over his SI joint and it's inflamed.  He told him to use ice over heat, cold lasered him and yanked his bum leg.  He's been using the shoulder migraine ice pack I got him for Christmas on his lower back held in place by the back brace belt from the last SI joint flare up.   He couldn't really do a whole lot so we shared a blood supply with the couch most of the day Saturday.  We finally decided to go poke around the garden center just to get out of the house and get some movement.  OMG, the prices!!!  Flats are 12 plants less than they used to be for $3 more or $6 more if you want the old amount.  Plants are $5 a pop for a tomato or basil plant.  I'm REALLY hoping I properly harden off my seedlings because I can't afford that much for one little plant.  It's insanity.  I know grow lights are annoying and stuff but being able to grow your own plants from seeds from stuff you already buy is definitely the better move.  It was nice just to get out of the house at that point even if we got sticker shock.  I felt bad for the Mr though because he couldn't walk well without a cart to push around.  I'm really hoping his back falls in line so we can begin a proper reintroduction to strength training soon.  The chiro told him no aggressive bending over like the stretches I was telling him to do but seems like he needs to keep things stretched out.  He's doing SI joint exercises like bridges, clamshells and superman's to help strengthen things.

Then it was time to white knuckle it through Mother's Day.  I've been dealing with a lot of guilt and horrible memories from the last month of her life.  Nowhere to go, nothing to distract me just BLAM, in my face for about a week.  My teeth are ground to nubs and I know I'm not the only one in the same boat.  It's hard for those of us without our mom's whether by death or the ones choosing not to be in their kid's lives.  My heart goes out to all of you who had to endure a bittersweet day.

Sunday wasn't a whole lot more productive initially.  A lot of distraction TV then I used the massage gun on the Mr's booty to loosen up his SI joint.  We grabbed lunch and I pulled out the old, woody lavender from the side bed out front.  We got the hoses switched out and the Mr hung up the new hose holder to keep it up off of the ground.  I'm so ready for my seedlings to be hardened off because it's a pain in the ass dragging them in and out every day.  I don't like the way my tomato plants are looking and I think they'll look much better once I can get them in the 5 gallon bucket.   So can I keep them alive for 5 more days?

You know what it is, right?

Neeener neener.  Nee nee neet neet neeeeeeeeeeeee.

I can already feel the stiffness from pulling that lavender and being bent over leveling a large ceramic planter outside so today should be interesting.  Come the 15th, I'll move the last planter the Mr built out front and will try to fill it with some plastic bottles and such on the bottom to save some money on filling it with potting soil.

That's about it for us.

How was your weekend?

  1. My goal now is to not need a second chiro visit. I think it's improving daily so hopefully that can be the case. Have a great week everyone!

    1. Well, as you would tell me, if you need it, you need it. That can be the goal though.

  2. Yikes to the Mr! Hopefully he feels better soon!!! We have some grow lights and I think it really is also the way to go....PLUS, we did pick up some plants a few weeks ago (flowers) and we noticed when we got them home that they had issues that immediately required attention to prevent spreading disease to everything we have. When we plant and grow our own we know what we are getting! Like you, praying for the hardening to go well!

    1. Ugh, that really stinks you saw issues with the store bought plants. I got 2 clematis that I pre-ordered in January and they friggin' died. Do you think the bulb company stood behind their grow guarantee? NOPE. I see that with nurseries too. "Keep the receipt and if it doesn't grow the first year, we'll refund it" and then try to find all of the ways it was your fault. I think I have 3 more days of hardening for a 7 day period. I can't wait to take a break from lugging them in and out!! Fingers crossed for yours too!

  3. It was a nice low-key weekend. Got laundry done early, worked, and did house stuff. The weather was beautiful on Saturday so I enjoyed some time on the deck with a lovely breeze. Planning on getting our flowering plant this weekend. I think the hard freezes have come to an end.

    1. I'm so glad you got to get out there and enjoy your deck! I hope it stays nice and even temp wise before we're in the thick of flop sweat season. I think we're in the same boat but the second I'd try to put a plant in the ground before the 15th, a polar vortex would come through! LOL

  4. Saturday we did some shopping & had lunch at our favorite fajita place. Sunday morning we went for our walk. After we stopped at Cabin Coffee for a cup & a bagel. The rest of the afternoon was spent in the yard. It has been so beautiful this week. We took the time to just appreciate it.

  5. I had a really nice weekend. Saturday I weedwhacked, cut back the forest on the perimeter, picked up 10 bags of cuttings and sticks, did initial cut on my 8 inch grass, cleaned out my shed, listed excess items on buy nothing fb group, cleaned and leaf blowed the patio and was asleep by 7pm. Sunday I headed to Iowa to deliver the couch I found for my friend on fb. Strapped Elmer in his car seat for his first road trip. Hauled the couch upstairs into the apartment, reorganized the furniture and got it setup. Elmer met Mr Crawley the cat and they were fast friends. On to Mom's bestie's house who is slowly fading to cancer. Brought her flowers and sat on her deck with her hubs overlooking her gorgeous yard as Elmer ran the perimeter. Onto my 40 plus bestie's house where I scarfed tacos while Elmer wrestled with his new friend Finley, talk about some puppy ❤️ love. Up to the cemetery for Mom to meet Elmer, I told her I hope she is happy having Bagel with her and that Fran would be joining her soon. Decided to surprise my cuzzos and caught him sleeping on the couch, Elmer kissed him awake. Had a nice visit on their patio. Hit the road home for the 3 hour trek, my windshield time filled by calls from my 2 sons and a 3 way with my Cali friend.
Long day but my heart was so full.
    Have a great week!

  6. I had a very nice weekend. Worked in the yard cutting back brush, then weedwhacking, then first bagged cut of grass, 8 bags of yard scraps. Cleaned out shed and gave away clutter on fb buy nothing site. Cleaned up patio and leaf blowed it. Out cold at 7pm Saturday! Sunday morning strapped Elmer in for his first roadtrip to Iowa. First stop to drop off and setup a couch in his 2nd floor apartment after rearranging his living room. Assembled his cat stroller. He met Mr. Crawley the cat and they were fast friends. Next stop at my 42 year besties for lunch while Elmer and his new friend Finley wrestled and kissed. Next stop to my Mom's besties house who is slowly fading to cancer. Sat on her deck overlooking her beautiful property and visited while Elmer raced around the perimeter. Onto the cemetery to say hi to Mom where I asked her if Bagel was behaving and let her know that Fran would be seeing her soon. Lastly decided to surprise my cuzzo and caught him napping and Elmer kissed him awake. Finally headed home after 8 hours and filled my windshield time with calls from my far flung sons. I sure was tired yesterday morning but my heart was full.
    Have a great week!
