What I'm Reading This Week #22

Howdy do and welcome to the last Friday of May.  😑  Even though it was a short week, it always seems just a tinge longer than the previous week.  I'm getting antsy because I want to see blooms.  When you're growing from seed, it requires a patience I don't naturally have and trying to keep things from getting to everything before it has a chance to.  Then reading about some God awful hornworm that can just come in and decimate your tomato plants overnight.  It makes me wonder at what point do I put up the insect netting over the bucket veggies.  Other than that, not much else going on this week. Let's hop straight into: Does Walking Build Muscle, Burn Fat, or Both ?  (The part about e-scooters is often a discussion as kids on them and e bikes rocket past us in the park or on a sidewalk going 20 mph.  These kids are going to have ZERO muscle.) Hump Day Poll: Hobbies

My mom had a ton of hobbies.  She was a scrapbooker, cardmarker, diamond art maker, slot machine jockey, bingo player, cross stitcher, occasional sewing thrown in when I was a kid to save money.  She loved being creative.  I also love being creative but haven't done much on that front.  I suppose you could say my Etsy shop is about as creative as I've gotten lately but hobbies that become something you depend on money for, it becomes less fun and more job.  (Not that that's producing anything right now anyway since I've not done a single thing with it yet this year because of the house chaos but I digress.)  I have this bad habit of going full force into ideas and pooping out on them.  I still have a bin full of stuff to make risers for stuff like soap, tea kettles, etc waiting for me to do something with them.  I have drawers full of stuff for craft projects that rarely get touched and then inherited a bunch of Mom's stamps and card making stuff.  I didn't take all of it because I'd have needed an entire room but I took things that interested me so I could eventually make cards because you guys have seen the price of cards out there!

I asked for some watercolors from the Mr for Christmas and got them.  I haven't used them once because we've been so ridiculously busy for reno crap.  Maybe reno is my hobby?  But I'd like hobbies that actually bring me some peace.  It's been 8 years of constant projects that dictate our time and I'd like something that I can dictate when I do it and be in the mental space to be able to enjoy it.  I miss being creative.  I have a ton of jewelry making stuff I was going to make jewelry with Mom's casket flowers and I've never touched them.  I'd like to learn to do that too.

Do you have any hobbies you currently do or want to try?

  1. I get lost in my improvement projects! I get an idea then i get into it and next thing i know the weekend is gone lol. I get so much satisfaction in the "afters".
Also, crazy how i get into new ways of organizing to make my life easier. Maube something to do with the almost instant gratification of it all?
My son switches hobbies often, baking bread, pottery, furniture making, lock picking, puzzles, gaming, calligraphy, it always changes.
For me, if it seems like a chore im out.

  2. Many moons ago I took classes at Michael's to learn cake decorating and that was a blast. Every week I'd make something and my mom would bring it to her job. I just gave away all my instruments to a friend who actively bakes and decorates. I also used to be big into making wreaths, especially in the fall with the pretty picks you could buy. Nowadays I enjoy reading and playing solitaire on my tablet. It's calming for me before bed. I've also gotten into bird watching and have a feeder I'm going to put out to see who's interested. We have so many colorful birds in our trees that its fin to watch them do their thing while enjoying time outside.
