What I'm Reading This Week #26

Well you made it to Friday!  I don't know where y'all are but unless you were near Glacier National Park that got snow this week, you were probably boiling in your own pudding to quote Charles Dickens.  I do not dig 90 degrees by noon and it feels like everything is frying left and right including us.  Most of the week I had the 50% shade cloths on the veggies to attempt to save as much as I can.  I need to get the next batch of lettuce in the shade planter to see if I can successfully grow there over the summer since it never gets direct sun.  I told the Mr the other day I feel like nothing is in the right place back there.  I have a lot of containers and I don't know if I need to put some of them on a little ledge since the 5 gallon buckets take up so much room or not.  The zinnias being in a long planter on the fence were a mistake but they were only put there because I had so many extras and didn't want to chuck them.  I have a few struggling...

What I'm Reading This Week #20

Howdy do punkin' poos?  I hope you had a delightful week of blissful productivity at work (aka hanging on by the frays of your well bitten fingernails whilst saying you need to win the lottery but never actually playing.)

A birthday shout out to my grandma.  You know, even though she would've been 86, and I know the probability is she would be gone now, it still doesn't stop me wondering how long she would've made it if dementia hadn't reared up.  I could really use one of her hugs or her hands cupping my face with that ornery little grin saying I was her first grandbaby.  Happy birthday grandma.  I hope you and mom have a big euchre game going on tonight.

We've been slowly integrating back into walking this week as the Mr could handle.  Last night he was able to do two laps without having to stop to stretch so that is good news.

For more news, let's check out:

Grip Strength Is A Sneaky Predictor Of Longevity—Here’s How To Improve Yours  (I have noticed mine getting worse the past few years.  I bought something to help with that and shocker, rarely use it.)

13 Tasty Ways to Get In Your Probiotics  (I don't know about tasty but they're ways.)

Is The Legs-Up-On-The-Wall Pose As Beneficial As Everyone Says?  (I always tell myself I'm going to do this.  I need to find a clear wall space.)

How to Turn a Plate of Pasta Into a High-Protein Dinner  (It's so funny how regular pasta now tastes mushy to me compared to chickpea or lentil pasta.)

60 Seconds of Exercise Can Offset 14 Minutes of Sedentary Activity—Here Are 10 One-Minute Workouts to Try  (That's good news!  Now to put it into action.  So easy to get sucked into anything else.)

Here's how to retrain your brain to crave movement more than screen time  (I desperately need to do this, I'm completely an addict. šŸ˜”)

Prescription Refills Are the Pink Tax No One Talks About  (I use 2 pea sized estrogen cream for pre-cancer and when it was prescribed 4 years ago, it was $10 through insurance.  Same when I got it refilled 2 years ago.  In February, I went to refill it again...$126!!!  I about shit myself!  I tried several pharmacies after looking through GoodRx and could get it down to $40 which was still outrageous.  I called CVS back and she said "you know what, we have a super saver program we can try that is sometimes better than GoodRx."  $26.  Now I'm still ticked at the more than double price I'm having to pay but better than 12x higher.  ALWAYS check with your pharmacy to see if they have a similar savings program.  Lie about your situation if you have to (I didn't but I'm not above it).  Men get dick pills for $5 but I've got to pay $125 for preventative cancer treatment?  šŸ–•)

Here’s What Happened When I Complimented Everyone I Met for an Entire Day  (It can be hard especially when people are giving out the vibe that they'll hiss at you if attempt to talk to them but think of how much better you feel when someone compliments you.)

Well, I suppose this is the weekend I'm in the clear to plant all of my wittle seedlings and direct sow others!  So hopefully I'll have some fun digging in the dirt and maybe some tomfoolery thrown in for good measure.  I suppose I should actually start my next batch of seeds though for radishes and lettuce.  We'll be in grow light hell all year!

What's happening in your neck o' the woods this weekend?

  1. I'm glad the Mr's back is feeling better! Weekend will be little things that need to be done around the house, such as putting together a lamp, a side table, and possibly a small baker's rack. We'll be looking for a new couch and are thinking of going to the stores next week with the holiday sales, so need to do some measuring in the living room. I already did the laundry yesterday, so that feels great me to have that done. I work today and tomorrow and then have some planned downtime I'm looking forward to. I hope you guys have a great weekend and enjoy your garden! This is exciting!!

  2. Happy birthday grandma! I'm glad it's the weekend and thankfully I'm not hobbling around as badly so we can have some normalcy. Have a great weekend everyone!
