Baby It's Cold Outside

I have such a hard time finding coats that I like.  I'm so tired of settling for coats with no shape because my shape is so screwed up.  I did something I swore I wouldn't do but I ordered a coat online after hearing I could return it to the store if there was a problem.  It's the style I've always liked, oh and I got a killer deal scoring it for $96 instead of $159 with a coupon code:

It's pretty simple.  I can pick any accent color scarf or gloves with it but honestly I'll probably stick with my black ones.  I know, I really go out on the fashion limb, do I not?  I am nervous for it to get here because I just want to know it fits.  I hate not being able to try something on because it takes me back to the days I had no choice but to order from catalogs.  But the stuff I was finding in store were just hideous and I said last year I wasn't settling when I had to get a new coat so this is my current idea of not settling.  So keep your fingers crossed that the "middle muffin" (between the boobs and the gut) allow me to sit in this without popping a button off and getting charged with manslaughter.

Are you getting a new winter coat this year?  Where are your favorite places to shop for coats?

  3. Great coat! I love it when you can return stuff to the store if it doesn't fit. Don't worry, it'll fit ; )

  4. I got a new one last year and it will be with me for many years to come. I spent and entire excruciatingly painful day looking in stores that specialize in coats. Finally, after I'd given up and resigned myself to another year with my old coat I went to Kohl's for something else. Guess what I found there? Yep, perfect coat. Warm, but lightweight. Durable enough for snow shoveling and winter chores, but nice enough to wear with a skirt to work.

  5. That looks really nice! I also haven't found a coat I like, and I just can't afford to spend more than $50 right now, so my choices are limited. I tried the Goodwill and couldn't find anything. I like Avenue's stuff!

  6. I love the new coat!!!! Can't wait to see how you like it!

I got a new coat last year so probably no coat for me but I do like the ones with a belt like the one I got last year because it makes me feel small :) With coats especially if you don't have that defined waist it makes you look bigger with all your other stuff underneath (big warm sweaters and the like :))

  9. It's a gorgeous coat!! I hope it looks wonderful on (it should). I've been doing lots of on-line window shopping lately. Especially at Avenue. I found them through you. I'm going to have to check and see if there is a store anywhere near by. I hate ordering online, but often have to because of the limited options in my area. I sometimes wonder if California limits the number of options for the anorexically challenged (sometimes seems like it when my only options are Target and Wal-Mart). But, there are soooooo many cute things at Avenue I'm about to break down and order something (tomorrow is payday-common money, mommy needs a new outfit). My pouty moment though is that with so many cute sweaters and coats out this year I'm still having a hard time justifying the cost...that whole California thing again. Again, good luck and can't wait to see a picture post of you wearing it :).

  10. I hope you like it and it fits like a dream :) I stick with my Harley jacket most of the time. I have a old blue down filled one to walk the dogs in but generally I wear Harley.

  11. That coat is SO cute!! I like the length on it too (too often the length is 30" and that just doesn't cut it). And what a great deal you got on it! I use online coupons every time I shop. I'm hoping to get a new coat this year as the one from last year is extremely boxy looking. The problem is my bust equally as big as my stomach, so trying to find something to accomodate both is very hard to find. I end up having to go bigger, thus the boxy look. But I'm hoping to find something that will work. I also desperately need and in-between coat. It's in the high 40's/low 50's here, so a "winter" coat is too warm, but I'm freezing my tookus off without anything to cover up! LOL!

  12. That's a beautiful coat! I have two similar to that, a black one, and a camel one. I just feel a little short when I wear them! They are very warm though! I'd love to see a picture if you like it!!! I love wearing scarves with the jacket too, it makes me feel elegant :)

  14. That coat is super cute! As a reward when I finally get to where I want to be I'm going to buy myself a cute red hooded peacoat.

fun fact: That girl in the photo you show was actually on America's Next Top Model last season as a "real size" model. I don't think she went far, but I was rooting for her.

I had to get a new winter coat this year and I was avoiding it because I still have about 40 pounds to go til my maintenance weight. My coat from my 300 pound days was just not working any more.

I went to a Columbia outlet store hoping to find a nice sturdy coat. wouldn't you know that all the plus size coats they had were ugly (2 styles - One in bright purple and one in bright baby blue). And at 205 pounds I could only barely fit into their XLs. I was so miffed they didn't carry any 1Xs in decent styles.

Anyway, I went to Eddie Bauer and got a pretty cute long down coat. I'm hoping my middle muffin doesn't affect the comfort as well!

  15. That's a beaut! I love it. Last year I bought the first winter coat of my adult life. Before that, all I ever owned was a jean jacket. We don't need much else down here. I put my new snazzy coat on when I got it last year and Bill replied instantly: SEXY! Needless to say, it's a keeper. LOL

  16. Love the gray color!

Last year, at the very end of the season, I ordered a long military black wool pea coat from White House Black Market. Seriously, like $40 for an $200 coat, or something like that. I think I wore it once (when it was 60 degrees) so I'm looking forward to it's real debut this season.

I also have a couple pea coat styles still in service (maybe 4 or 5 years old, but for a few years I couldn't wear them because I was too fat). Cream and black, the short, mid-hip lengths.

    Hope it fits!

  17. Love the jacket!!! Gorgeous!!

And it's funny because I just told hubby this morning that I needed to buy a big kid coat this year (i.e. a REAL one and not some junky thing from Walmart that will fall apart before the end of the season! LOL).

I'll probably be hitting JC Penneys since we don't have much else in our little neighborhood...but I'm definitely thinking Pea Coat in Red, Black or Brown. :-)
