What I'm Reading This Week #18

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to May.  We had a long week of getting the garage together so the Mr could finally park in it six weeks later.  We still have some work to do in there as far as purging and such but we needed to get the space useable again since it's been a holding tank for our old countertop/sink, old grill waiting to be picked up by a friend, insulation, built planters and patio table and extra fencing from critter cages.  We haven't had the mental drive to figure out how we get the shelves in order.  I think I'm going to have to look up some garage organizing articles or something because it's really overwhelming to look at it all.  If we can get a plan together to tackle it then maybe we'll have our weekend plans for next weekend as long as it's not hot yet because we don't want to be in a sweatbox. Now let's peek into: Dietitians Agree, Eating More Might Be the Secret to Your Strongest Year Ever   (Volume eating FTW.  It's been ...

Hump Day Poll: To Jingle or Not to Jingle?

In two days it'll be November 1st and there seems to be a distinct line of thinking on that date now... bask in post Halloween/Fall glow or bust out the Christmas music.

Because it's an election year, I feel like only have I just started this week to see any other Christmas commercials other than the nibby old neighbors Hobby Lobby commercial that's been in rotation for 3 weeks.  So those holiday elements we can't really control but we can control our personal homes and if we choose to fire up Nat King Cole or God forbid, Mariah with Jack o Lantern's barely cool.

I used to listen to Christmas music in July in my teens through my 30's   I would definitely pepper it in in early November before.  Since our house has seemed to be in a perpetual state of reno since 2017, playing it too early just stresses me out because the house isn't usually conducive to decorating.  (Like right now.  I still never got all of my Fall stuff out which ticks me off.)  Last year I clearly wasn't able to enjoy Christmas music at all being a few months out from Mom's passing and it's not feeling much different this year so far.  I'm hoping once this bathroom is finished, whenever the hell that'll be, and we can clean the house that it will shift my headspace.  Right now, I'm not in the mood for it and can't see that being the case for quite a while.

Are you team Christmas music come November 1st and if not then, when?

  1. Christmas for me is a mixed bag since losing hubs in 2011. Mumsie died December 26th 2022.
I keep trying to start new traditions so maybe this year I will start small with playing tunes daily starting on the 1st. I can't wait for the election to be over so people will become human again.

  2. I don't really have a set time for listening to Christmas music, probably because I really only play it in my car. I have 2 CDs that I really enjoy and that's pretty much all I listen to, except one radio station plays Christmas music 24/7 with no commercials so I'll turn that on sometimes.

  3. There was never mention of Christment grown up until after my birthday which is mid December, so I kind just stick with that out of habit

  4. I start playing it Nov 25, any earlier and my husband gets annoyed!

  5. I wait until November 12, we honor our soldiers on Remembrance Day, November 11, here in Canada. I move into Christmas mode then!
