Warm Weather Hygge

By definition, hygge (hooga) according to the Denmark website is about "taking time away from the daily rush to be together with people you care about - or even by yourself - to relax and enjoy life's quieter pleasures."   There's a fun little book I read on vacation back in 2018 called The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living and I loved it so much, I bought one as soon as I got back.  There was actually nothing more relaxing than reading that little book curled up on the couch in the sunroom with a cup of tea and is one of my favorite memories of that trip. Many tend to associate this practice in the cooler months of Fall and Winter because it tends to focus on the act of being cozy.  Snuggling under a blanket, enjoying a warm, healing cup of tea by the fireplace (or fireplace on TV ), lighting a favorite candle while doing a calming hobby like cross stitch or scrapbooking.  Being a hyggephant, I can tell you that I never associated warm wea...

Hump Day Poll: Fall Bucket List

This is about the time the leaves finally change in our area, and the day you notice them is the day a huge windy rain comes in and blows them all off of the trees.  Is it just me or does Fall seem shorter in terms of the amount of color you get?

Anyhoo...we've got one more week in October to fit in those bucket list items before the only leaves left are the ones crunching underfoot and the Christmas music starts blaring.  (Don't shoot the messenger.)

I plan to squeeze in some walks with my honey, maybe a night by a firepit, and I REALLY want a caramel apple this year.  It's probably been over a decade since I've had one and the craving has been strong since summer, so what better time of year to indulge to hold me for the next 10 years?

What's left on your Fall bucket list?

  2. I'm not able to do some of the things I thought I'd get to this fall, but I'm at peace with it now. The one thing I want to do is go the apple orchard, which I plan on doing Monday. It'll only be 50 degrees, which will be lovely to enjoy a hot chocolate after I do some perusing and shopping. They have an indoor cellar with food and hot chocolate/coffee, but I think I want to sit out on the picnic tables so I can look out at the pumpkin patch and the entire area that's all country. I have my new chiminea that the hubs gave me for our anniversary, but I don't know that I'll set that up outside or not this year because it went from warm to windy and pretty cold very quickly. Still have to think about that. The annoying thing we have right now is when it does get warm and sunny, the wasps are out in full force and my poor girl got stung on the paw over the weekend. Little jerks.
