Need some snack inspiration

This is gonna be short and sweet kiddies.  I'm kinda feeling like I'm in a night time snack rut.  We usually have sugar free jello or sugar free pudding and that's fine.  If I'm ambitious I make push pops with banana soft serve and some alternate flavor for pizzazz...

I have some ambition that lasts me through tonight and then tomorrow it's back to jello or pudding.

So I'm turning to my awesome peeps (that would be y'all) to tell me what is your favorite snack that is between 100-170 calories.  You can list one or as many as you can think of.  My brain isn't feeling very creative right now.

  1. I love the pushpops but lately the jello has been just kind of meh for me. I vote for the mini drumsticks. Those were yommmy!

  2. Yogurt. Now I'm not saying the bland ass plain crap. I like the "junky" yogurt (not the sugar free stuff--I don't like fake sweetners). I get the store brand blended stuff (mixed berry, strawberry, etc) low fat kind and it's only 170 calories and has a nice bit of protein.

Graham crackers. Lately I've been nuts for them. Two sheets are only 130. Sweet, crunchy, and the serving doesn't feel stingy. (and you could save a milk serving from earlier in the day so you could dunk them--mmm, dunked graham crackers)

Cascadian Farms chocolate chip chewy granola bars. 140 each. Sweet, chewy, and not stingy with the chips (great for chocolate cravings).

Trader Joe's 100 caolrie chocolate bars. They seem small but the chocolate is good and if you just have to have chocolate it will satisfy. (my only beef is all the packaging--very wasteful)

  3. I like popcorn, but I know the sodium is off the charts. I suppose you could air pop and not doctor it up but that kind of takes the fun out of it.

Banana "ice cream" - I buy bananas when they're on clearance because they're almost too ripe to sell. Then I cut them into chunks a freeze them. Through them in the blend or food processor with a little milk (cow, coconut, almond...) and whip them into a soft serve consistency.

I found 100 calorie packs of yogurt pretzels (one of my biggest weaknesses). They are very good, but the individual bag seems a little stingy.

I've been on a peanut butter kick lately, so anything with a tablespoon of peanut butter added sounds good to me.

  4. I second the banana options. or just get froyo mini cups and eat them..they are not too sweet neither too "diety"..

I sometimes eat home made spicy candied pecans/walnuts..

    cottage cheese + pineapple/peach chunks

If ur craving something salty..then I bought these low sodium ready to eat soups but more thicker and yummy and totally natural..higher end of the range of calories though..

  5. I always like nuts, my husband is a fan of cheese sticks (the individually wrapped ones, so you can only have 1! lol). I also second whoever said peanut butter. I'll usually have like a tablespoon if I have a sweet tooth craving. There's also these relatively low cal cheesy poofs I've been eating lately, that taste good and are surprisingly filling. I think they're called Pirate's Booty or something like that (lol. seriously though, they are.). Anyway, I hope this helps!

  6. I like the Blue Bunny brand Sweet Freedom Fudge Lite fudgesickles. They're only 35 calories each. They really taste good, and more importantly, they do a great job of satisfying that chocolate urge that never seems to leave me for long.

Another sweet treat I like is a 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cream with a 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce. I do add a little Splenda and cinnamon to the entire bowl, and it tastes great! Sometimes I eat canned mandarin oranges as a variation instead of the applesauce.

We also eat graham crackers spread with a little peanut butter, and enjoy it with 1/2 cup of low fat milk.

    1. my favorite low-calorie snack right is simple, raw, and natural : a handful of unsalted walnuts and dried apricots. It's a good mix of sweet and salty, and the walnuts really help to provide satiety. The hardest part is just making sure you are eating an appropriate portion size! When mixed, just cup a small handful into one palm and you're all set !

  7. Chocolate dipped clementine wedges. I am so obsessed with those. Banana soft serve is always a winner--I don't like plain banana, so I try to come up with crazy flavors that don't add a lot of additional calories. And this is probably on the upper edge of the calorie limit, but I love a good apple or pear with a few thin slices of aged cheddar. It feels so classy, like my personal little cheese plate. ;)

  8. Probably the usual suspects...yogurt, cottage cheese with fruit, carrots with low fat dip, cheese and crackers, snack bar, fruit cup....some of those might have more calories than you're looking for but they're good for me. I'm not the best snacker but I'm getting better. Thanks for posting!

  9. I mix up my own trail mix with deluxe nuts, sunflower seeds, raisins, and chocolate chips. Then I throw in any other dried fruit I have on hand. I've never tried to get the exact calorie count on this, but I figure it probably isn't more than the nuts themselves. I think an ounce, just about 1/4 cup, is right in that range. Of course, I also drink half a cup of 1% milk with it, so my snack is a bit higher in calories.

I also like Nabisco wheat thins with fat free cream cheese and my homemade jalapeno jelly. 1/2 serving of the crackers, one serving of the cream cheese divided among the eight crackers, and maybe 1/3-1/2 tsp of the jelly on each is just about right, and also within that range if I remember correctly. This isn't as filling as the trail mix, but it satisfies my sweet tooth.

  10. My options are meant to also keep me from feeling deprived ever so they are a little more "sweets" but I limit them to 70 calories: Tootsie pop, 2 sugar-free fudgesicles, and 2 Trader Joe dark chocolate wedges (they sell these near the register). Otherwise, in the winter I do decaf coffee with a little peppermint mocha creamer. I like to do things I can make last and aren't gone in 2 seconds.

  11. My new favorite indulgence? I drain plain, nonfat natural yogurt til it's quite dry(this gets rid of the extra carbs) , add some stevia and a few berries. The yogurt is cheesecake consistancy and is DELICIOUS!!!

  12. I'm a popcorn girl. I have a microwave popper as well as an air popper. I make that and then spritz on a bit of olive oil with a Misto sprayer (around 2 grams total) and then I go crazy with the spices. My favorite lately has been "pizza popcorn"....garlic powder, oregano, basil, crushed chili flakes, paprika, Trader Joe's Everyday Seasoning and nutritional yeast. But you could also go sweet and use cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice mixed with a bit of C&H Light Sugar and a pinch of salt for a kettle corn-like flavor. I'm more of a salty-crunchy-carby snacker and sweet stuff doesn't usually appeal to me, but when it does, I like a 0% Greek yogurt with a serving of whatever my favorite jam is at the time. ~Krista

  13. So you prefer a "sweet(ish)" snack? I usually have a yogurt sundae, which is the exact same as my breakfast parfait, only I might stir in a tbsp of special dark cocoa or a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Or both.

Martha over on Simple Nourished Living posted an old WW recipe for Cheese Danish the other day that I'm eager to try. Here's the link: http://simple-nourished-living.com/2013/01/weight-watchers-cottage-cheese-danish-recipe/

I've also read somewhere that caramelized banana stirred into cottage cheese and drizzled with honey is delicious but I haven't tried it yet.

  14. I just found another recipe in, of all places, my own blog! How could I forget 100-calorie apple pies? You could even add a dollop of frozen yogurt or whipped topping or nutella. :) Here's the link: http://tippytoediet.com/2012/01/100-calorie-apple-pie-and-other-indulgences/

I've got to go defrost some won-ton wrappers now. :)

  15. For salty snacks, homemade kale chips are good and you can season them however you like. Plus I think they last a few days once they're made (LOL if they make it past one evening!!).

For sweet, one that I like is the ricotta desserts from the south beach diet. It's kind of like a lazy-(wo)man's cheesecake. 1/2 cup of light ricotta cheese mixed with some sweetener and whatever flavour you feel like (vanilla extract, cocoa powder, almond extract, lemon zest, etc.) just mix and eat. It's super rich, so on the days when you really want a dessert it's a great option.

  16. I used to love sliced bananas, with a shmear of peanut butter, then dipped into Kashi go lean crunch - it made a plate full, but I am thinking its closer to 200 calories?

  17. I like things that will leave me full, so most of the time that means proteins or complex carbs.
    Some of the staples are...
Hot chocolate with non-fat milk and low fat whipped cream
greek yogurt with jam or a few chocolate chips thrown in
1/3 cup or 1/2 cup of quick oats to make oatmeal usually adding a sweetener
    popcorn
    fruit
or 1/2 the fat slow churned edy's ice cream

  18. I rarely change up my snacks because well I never have a good idea outside of my usuals but I can tell you what I just made 10 minutes ago lol. Apples with caramel dip. I found a recipe that is only 3 ingredients and to me this bad boy taste like a sugar daddy. So I used a tbsp of the dip (68 calories) plus a small apple (60) so there is my 128 calorie snack. Plus I get to use this sauce on icecream, when I am brave enough to have some ;-)

  19. I just stumbled upon your site and am starting to read about y'all in the hopes of some motivation! Congrats on your success - really inspiring!

Something I used to do when I was on a good track was a thing I named the Cryogenic Mr. Peanut. Break a reduced fat graham cracker in half, spread 1/2 tsp. reduced fat peanut butter in a thin layer on each half, then top one half with 2 tbsp. Cool Whip Free and place the other half on top to make a sandwich. Pop them in the freezer until the Cool Whip is solid and you have a yummy little 'ice cream sandwich'. You can do them in batches, then wrap them individually to grab when you want a treat.
