Let there be light

and A/C!

I am still gathering my thoughts on this ordeal and yes, it was an ordeal.  One week with no power and having no one to rely on but ourselves but it's always been me and the Mr against the world.  Just makes me love him more.  I have a lot of pics to gather, resize and prep for tomorrow's post. I am so thankful for everyone who emailed or left supportive comments.  Thank you for sending your vibes our way.

I must say that right now, I am the most proud of us maintaining our lifestyle in the worst of conditions.  I made some amazing meals on the grill.  From a ham, cheese and caramelized onion omelet to bbq salmon to cheese stuffed chicken burgers to egg muffin sandwiches...I told the Mr "I got the memo we were out but not the one that said we had to suffer."  We did a workout every night we usually had one scheduled.  Granted they were shorter so we didn't keel or make it rain in the basement from the combo of our humidity and sweat.  (We literally melted ice quicker when we worked out!!)  But they were effective enough for me to still lose a pound last week.

I cannot begin to tell you the pride we both feel in the accomplishing that.  100+ degrees, doing what needed to be done to not let our home fall prey to Mother Nature (in more ways than one if ya get my drift) but nothing beat knowing that we didn't use those things that 98% of people would consider a free pass to bow out of exercise.

I will get a better post together for you tomorrow.  Thanks for coming back!  I've missed you guys!

What's made you proud of yourself lately?

  3. It's great to be back. And if anyone out there has ever done "hot yoga" I now know how it feels and can honestly say I don't care to do it!

Thanks so much to my Mrs for not just hanging in there but proving that we can still live a healthy lifestyle and even eat some amazing meals despite the odds. You're the best!

  7. Yay!!!!! I'm so glad you've rejoined the modern world...Can I be in your camp when the world goes to pot and we all end up living in caves again? Carmelized onion omlet on the grill? Bobby Flay would be impressed!! In admiration of how you handled the situation. Glad you are back!!!

  8. Missed your daily posts and so glad you're back...you need to sing that song that Helen Reddy made famous so long ago: "You and me against the world." (I always tell my hubby that's the song I want played at my funeral.) You and the Mr. deserve an award for sticking to your work-out and eating plan through what must have been horrendous circumstances.

For a moment there, you were living in the 19th century, before electricity. Welcome back to the 21st!!!

  10. I am glad that everything is up and running for you guys. You have definitely set a great example for the rest of us to live by. You've done extremely well in the circumstances you were dealt. I definitely would not have fared as well. I would have been a hot, complaining mess. The heat would have gotten to me first b/c when it's hot I pretty much lose my mind. Kudos to the two of you for doing what needed to be done b/c we know that life does go on even if circumstances are not the best.

  11. Good for you not to succomb to no electricity! Last summer we were without power for 5 days - I used my cast iron skillet on our gas grill and we have a cooler that keeps stuff pretty cold for days - we did lose a bunch of stuff in our deep freeze, but its amazing how you can adapt.

    Hooray for A/C though! :D

  12. Yay! Been praying for you both. I was sharing with my daughter the other day that the last time I heard from you was when the power was out and you were posting from your car. I told her I was worried. Now, I am so proud of you and the Mr. Great job! No excuses. Oh my gosh the strength you've given me this morning I can not put into words. Thank you for sharing your life and your up and downs. It truelly inspires me:)

  14. Wow, you guys are the embodiment of commitment to health! The next time I am whining on the treadmill and want to quit, I'll think of you continuing to workout daily under the worst of circumstances and I will be shamed into finishing my workout!!

  16. I forgot to mention what's made me proud of myself lately. There is this song that they have played out on the radio called, "Blessed". It's by Jill Scott. Well, the other morning I had to jam to this song b/c I did a workout on my elliptical, which I hadn't used in forever. Then I got in some time with my punching bag. Afterwards, I was in the kitchen making a fruit smoothie, and the song came on, and I just felt like the words of the song, "I woke in the morning feeling fresh to def, I'm so blessed. Yes, yes." I just felt accomplished.

  17. I'm so glad you're back! I thought of you earlier when I purchased tickets for the Duran Duran concert.

Congratulations on your one-pound loss! I spent most of last week hugging the A/C while drinking a gallon of water. I didn't exercise at all, but I didn't eat much either (heat = no appetite).

  19. SO glad to hear you have power again--that seriously was an ordeal that would have made most people cave to the 'I DESERVE this!' (crap food, lack of exercise, etc.) pity party line of thinking. You and the Mr. are amazing; congratulations on the loss AND on the return to the 21st century!

  20. Yay! So glad you made it through in fine fashion!

  21. Awesome news! You two can weather anything INCLUDING weathering the weather! You absolutely deserve to feel mighty proud. I know I am proud of you. Those meals on the grill sounded delicious, and the continued workouts are just beyond inspiring.
You guys have GOT THIS, no doubt in my mind. Happy One Pound Down and congrats again on a tremendous effort/execution despite all odds.

  22. SO happy to hear that you are back to having power! You really don't know what you have until it is missing...but I am SUPER DUPER proud of you and the Mr.! I applaud both of you for keeping going when others would have crumbled. Good job!

I have to say that I'm proud of myself for riding a bike up this crazy hill at the END of a 10 mile bike ride! I enjoyed going down the hill at the beginning and I wasn't about to wuss out and walk even if it took me all day...and believe me, I barely felt like I was moving, but I just kept peddlin' and at the top I was SO proud of myself! I probably bugged the crap outta my family the rest of the day though because every time we went up or down that hill I had to remind them, yet again, that I had RIDDEN up that darn hill without stopping! HUZZAH!!!
