Staycation over and what I'm reading this week

Yesterday was the last day of the Mr's staycation.  He's still working from home today but he's always SUPER busy so it's like he's not even here.  :-(

We enjoyed our time together and tried to get the house in order for company this weekend.  It's hard trying to find homes for things that your previous home was shoved in an armoire.  But it'll likely get jammed in the guest room, door shut and be dealt with in the coming weeks.

But let's not dwell on that, let's get to...

10 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do With a Lemon  (I can also make boss lemon shake ups)

How to Bequeath Your Collection and Keep it out of Probate  (One day my cousin will thank me for keeping my vintage movie posters out of probate)

5 Ways To Maximize Existing Natural Light in Your Home  (Speaking from the woman who lives in a cave)

31 Healthy and Portable High-Protein Snacks  (Good, I'm tired of eggs and nuts alone)

Is Your Poop Normal? Here’s the No. 1 Reason to Check Your No. 2  (#5 is alive.  Kudos if you got the reference)

Spend Time Away from Home to Catch Unwanted Scents  (Very true.  I can live in the space, go grocery shopping and be like "what the hell is that smell??")

Simple Pleasures: Treasuring the Gift of Grandparents  (Treasure 'em if ya got 'em.)

The Kitchen is the Heart of this Berkeley Home  (Looooove)

16 Offbeat Holidays You Can Celebrate in September   (Because we need a reason to celebrate days other than Friday and Saturday)

Kids Eat Vegemite and Freak Out  (I love watching kids eat gross stuff.)

PBS to pay tribute to Robin Williams in special episode  (DVR is set)

Organizing Mistakes That Make Your House Look Messy   (So does living in a shoe box and trying to find homes for things you don't want to get rid of but don't know where to put them!)

17 Things No One Tells You About Alzheimer’s Disease  (Here...educate yourself and share with others)

Why Apple Cider Vinegar Needs to Be a Mainstay in Your Life  (I have to take mine in pill form or I'll retch)

25 Reasons Why Having A Baby Sounds Absolutely Terrifying  (Doesn't exactly sell it)

12 Affordable Ways to Add Glamour to Your Home   (Wow on a budget?  I'm there)

Fad Diets and What They Claim  (Keepin' my mouth shut or I'll never stop ranting)

Your Go-To Guide For Fall Florals   (So ready for purty Fall flowers!)

Hawaii Volcano Alert Elevated to Warning, Emergency Declared  (As if dealing with Hurricane Iselle wasn't enough (they're still not recovered and were denied FEMA help last I read), they have to worry about lava encroaching on populated, recovering neighborhoods possibly within the week!)

68 Facts You Might Not Know About Classic ’80s Films  (Very cool info!)

The smell of Hawaiian sweet bread is wafting through the air as I type.  I'm going to make the Cheesecake Factory's old Mile High Meatloaf for my mom and aunt Saturday as my family birthday celebration.  It was good incentive to get the house finished as much as it's going to be at this point.  Small finishing projects will be done and pieces picked up when we see them but right now we can declare it 'as done as it's gonna be.'  Of course in addition to finishing that up, I have a lot of prep work to do today so I'm not spending my morning and afternoon tomorrow doing it all and rushing around.  So I have to caramelize onions, roast garlic, throw together the meatloaf and let it marinate overnight and make homemade lemonade.  I'll have to do a serious cardio session Sunday...worth it.

Any plans for the weekend y'all?

  1. I enjoyed the staycation. It's nice to only have to take 3 days and still enjoy the majority of the week off and the timing was perfect because we got to go and do some things that would have been too crowded otherwise. Thanks for a great week!
