Crumblin' Down Weekend Recap

Monday.

And same to you all with a head nod and folded arms for perceived late 90's cool.

Do you remember that old John Mellencamp song "when the walls... come tumbling down, when the walls, come crumblin tumblin'."  Sooo, remember a few weeks ago when I said it was raining in the house?  After 3 weeks of lame ass cheap attempts to caulk away a problem and some persistent emails and calls by the Mr last week, we finally got a call back about what was supposed to be a siding replacement.  I should also mention that just below that in our basement, we've had water seeping through our basement wall for 10 years.  The previous property management company's solution to that was waterproof paint.  You can tell 10 years later how well it's held up:

Our witch neighbor has the water line in front of her place and we have always suspected a crack in the line from a tree she had right beside it.  She refused to let them come in to inspect her basement for issues and despite it being in the bylaws they have a right to do so when it affects others in the building, they washed their hands of it.  Suspiciously after she was asked of that, her nephew came over and put a strap around the waterlogged dead tree beside the water pipe and ripped it out.  Then she had her elderly father come redo her back patio.  That's not where the leak is, asshole. 🙄  A few years later when water was coming onto the cement block between our units, we sent an email, I think to the current company saying the sealant job wasn't working as there were rust stains in the corner and now water on the wall between the units.  *Crickets*

Fine.  So we got our own waterproofing paint and painted the whole wall between units so any water would be directed her way even though she swore there was no issue on her side.  We know she still has this monster swath of plastic coated insulation they put up when it was built and it tacked into the wall.  You can't just peek behind it.  So we've never been able to finish our basement because of this issue.  I told you that to tell you this.

Now that has bloomed into an appointment today to see if, you know, they'll have to open up our wall in the kitchen, dig out our foundation, hold up our house with temporary braces and replace the sill plate or a combination of the three.  You cannot make up our life.  So throw all of the good vibes out there that we are not by some miracle dealing with any of that despite the maintenance dude saying the sill plate was "spongy."  No bueno.  So that's how the weekend started.

It continued with the Mr having to go into work Saturday morning for an hour or so and another headache.  Literally he has a headache every single weekend so that doesn't bode well for road tripping or really anything except him trying for hours or the whole day to get rid of it.  I did a few putzy things but we pretty much shared a blood supply with the couch all day.  The only excitement we had was waiting for some impending storm that never happened, watching a horrible movie called Riff Raff that should've been better with an all star cast and me getting two types of spinach seeds since the ones I started with were clearly duds.  Jealous?

Sunday we were forced into having to move everything away from the walls in the basement and kitchen including removing the baseboards.  That would include the huge weight rack, so...fun stuff!  We got the basement situated first.  The Mr undid everything we did on the wall in 2019 on the top of the outside wall because we know they're going to try to blame the spigot (an US problem.)  Plenty of pics and videos later show it is not an issue there or in any of the holes we put in to attach those boards so we definitely didn't cause this.  I got a big donation box together and upstairs, got the big ass roll of leftover carpet from the stair install outta there,  made way for them to look at the sump pump on the opposite side of the basement (which is brand new as of October but I know he's going to want to look at everything water related), we got the foam board pulled out and in the trash.  We need to figure out what we're going to replace that with when all is said and done.  So that whole area is completely open for them to see.  The Mr pulled off the baseboard and nothing appears to be at the bottom of the drywall and the Mr used his scope camera to try to look under the flooring.  It doesn't appear there's any mold or anything like that under it which is good.  We fear that's going to be enough for him to suggest he'll have to go into the wall though.  We're just going to prepare for that even though we're vehemently against it and made that known.

Oh and the other night, I had this thought flash in my head to check the attic hatch.  If you remember, the Mr installed some silver insulation around it over the cold months.  Well lately it's felt kind of humid in that spot in the bathroom and I feel like someone put that thought in my head to check it.  Thankfully we were fine on that front, however, there is now a hole in the roof.  The Mr was up in the attic in March and didn't see that.  We think something blew loose with all of the strong storms we've had AND there's black stuff that wasn't there before either so now we have to deal with that.

I give up on tomfoolery because clearly that's not going to happen anytime soon- at least not the kind of tomfoolery we find funny.  The house?  HEAVY on the foolery, yo.

How was your weekend?

    1. Are you inviting coworkers over? How would they know? Tell them you gave them to elderly family members who had rickety chairs. If they have a problem with it, pizz off! 🙄

  3. I really really help it goes well with this water leakage mess. Hopefully they'll find the source and fix it thoroughly and not just patch things up. Weekend was fine here. More rain, bedding washed, and computer stuff done that was back-burnered for far too long. Last week was busy and this one is too. Heat indices of 100-110, so will be moving plants and flowers to shaded areas during the day.

    1. I want to make it clear to them we've been band aiding for 10 years and we've got a list with pictures to pass on to him so it will be clear we've been documenting. (I also suspect the shifting is what has caused the hairline crack in the porch they want to fill and pretend doesn't exist.)

Oof, hope the plants get some much needed shelter and your work week isn't too taxing!
