Boring Weekend Recap

Monday, we meet again. You come on like lightning you saucy wench. I hope you all had a great weekend and managed to keep cool. We got up to 96 at different times so that's...fun.
I have to start with these two cards I got in the mail Thursday night.
The big paper one is from the friends we gifted our old grill to. The Mr and I cracked up at the hot dog 'thanks' on what is an exact image of the grill along with a lovely note from the Mrs of the couple thanking us profusely as they didn't have money to replace their grill that was falling apart. The other is from my friend I've known since 1988 and he doesn't send out cards much so this was a surprise. It was him telling us how lucky he is to have us a friends and how much we mean to him and he thought we should know. It made me cry for sure (and then of course check in to make sure he was okay. He is.) Obviously any kind of communication is appreciated but there is something about getting a sentiment out of the blue and in handwriting that is beyond anything else in the warm fuzzies department. We don't know how long people will be in our lives...say the things.
Saturday the Mr was nursing a headache so we went to a new soul food place because he's a big fan of actual fried chicken - not tenders, if he can help it. It was pretty good. I do wish there was seasoning in the breading but it was super crunchy which took me back. Speaking of which, while I prefer brown sugar baked beans, these were BBQ baked beans and reminded me of family reunions of my youth. I literally cried as it had been a very hard night the night before so it was one of many grief bombs that day including the candied yams I got as a side that Mom would've loved. We drove around downtown and into a small town or two before heading back home. Not too high on the tomfoolery scale but being out of the house was needed so it didn't really matter. Unfortunately, soul food wasn't enough to knock out the Mr's headache so he took something when we got home and I flipped on Gardener's World and perused seed sites because I'm a nerd. Oh, I did start wrapping my friends birthday and Christmas presents so it was good to get a jump on that.
Sunday was basically bed rotting morning. We were both so worn out for no apparent reason. I informed him of an issue I found with our shower that we're not happy about. I'll report back after he contacts the company today but let's just say, as usual, it's always something and this is a BIG one. Later he forced himself to take out the 28 boxes from Prime day for aforementioned birthday and Christmas shopping. Like y'all see it's going to the same place. You can't tell me your almighty AI can't say "hey, perhaps to save on materials we can pack all of these things in one large box." Nope. Technology. So he loaded that up and dropped it off while I went out back and switched out the rolling plant stands I thought would be so genius back in March (they don't roll so well on cobblestone, derp) and replaced them with plant stands I used before. My sweet potato leaves were getting taller than the top of the bucket and the insect net was kind of squashing them so I took some bamboo stakes and put a strip of pipe insulation across the top of them to support the net to give it plenty of room to grow taller. The Mr vacuumed and wet vac'd the stairs while I made some hummingbird muffins for the week and put together the dry ingredients for the next time I want to make them. I've only been snoozing that reminder for 14 weeks. 😁
Oh yeah, we got quite the downpour Saturday and despite the loads of caulking done by our HOA, we're still getting water coming in the house so the Mr fired off an email that hey a-holes, it's been 2 weeks and your crap shortcuts aren't working. Get the people out to replace the siding NOW. Sigh.
Again, definitely not the tomfoolery I was hoping for Friday.

That weekend flew by and I feel cheated. Glad we got some tasks done at least.
ReplyDeleteLove the cards! So nice to get mail without windowed envelopes! Laundry, deep cleaning of bedroom, bathroom and the van. Nothing exciting.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
The weekend went so fast!! Busy with some unexpected things, some office and house stuff, writing out birthday cards, church, cooking, and getting ready for a new week. I didn't sit down on Saturday until 4pm, so I was tuckered out. Thankful for getting some things done though.
