What I'm Reading This Week #26

Well you made it to Friday!  I don't know where y'all are but unless you were near Glacier National Park that got snow this week, you were probably boiling in your own pudding to quote Charles Dickens.  I do not dig 90 degrees by noon and it feels like everything is frying left and right including us.  Most of the week I had the 50% shade cloths on the veggies to attempt to save as much as I can.  I need to get the next batch of lettuce in the shade planter to see if I can successfully grow there over the summer since it never gets direct sun.  I told the Mr the other day I feel like nothing is in the right place back there.  I have a lot of containers and I don't know if I need to put some of them on a little ledge since the 5 gallon buckets take up so much room or not.  The zinnias being in a long planter on the fence were a mistake but they were only put there because I had so many extras and didn't want to chuck them.  I have a few struggling out front so I'm wondering if when the weather cools a little if I can transplant the ones that aren't going to work in that space out there.  I know everything is under heat stress right now so it wouldn't be a good time to transplant but if it cools down to mid 80's like they're saying, maybe that could work and I could get something else up there?  (Real gardeners feel free to chime in on that topic)  I can't keep having those down on the ground to trip over.

Now let's trip into:

4 Potential Reasons Why Hands and Fingers Swell When Walking or Running  (The Mr and I always note our "sausage fingers" after walking)

7 Shocking Facts About Drinking Water Cold Vs. Room Temperature  (Wow, some really interesting info and why you should tailor it depending on your intent.)

We're Not Judging, but Here's Why You Can't Stop Farting  (Dude, #5 for sure.  It's like before a doctor's/chiro appointment my bowels are like "let me load the chamber and make you sweat it the entire time."  I'll even take a gas pill like an hour ahead and my innards laugh and pat me on the head.)

How does extreme heat affect the body and what can you do about it?  (Wow, I never thought about the feet thing but it makes total sense.  I swear I need to do that after going out to water in the morning.  Two minutes outside this past week and I was a mess for 45 minutes.)

7 Tips for Anyone Who Gets Depressed in the Summer  (Me.  I am anyone.  Once it stops being 9:30pm before we can start a movie on a weeknight, I'm busting out this mofo from the garage and strapping on my bathing suit with clean OFF to keep the skeeters at bay.)

Doodling Is Good for Your Brain  (We need to keep some doodle pads next to us!  I remember notebooks full of doodles Mom used to do chatting on the phone.)

6 Plants You Should Deadhead in June for Nonstop Summer Blooms  (Marigold and petunias have been getting the business from me especially in this heat)

15 Super Common Household Items From 20 Years Ago Or Earlier That've Totally "Disappeared"  (#3- oh honey, we know what we "had" which is why we still HAVE it!  You can buy digital media, a dispute pops up, they yank digital rights then expect you to rebuy it when rereleased or rent it.  Nope.)

Miss a post this week?  Catch up below:

The nursery is having a massive blowout sale so we might go poke around.  I don't really know of any plans so we'll see what we can get into.

What are you getting into this week?

  1. The halfway point of the year is already here. That went fast! I'm glad it's Friday because I was starting to think I was in groundhog day or something this week and I swore it was Thursday when I first woke up. Have a good weekend everyone!

  2. It has been a long and draining week without a question. I grocery shopped before work this morning and my glasses got steamed up just from going from the car to outside because it's so hot and humid out. Blech. Weekend plans are breakfast with a friend for her birthday tomorrow morning, then doing some house stuff in the afternoon. Will need to do some pruning of the tomato plant and flower pots, but will time that for when the sun is on the opposite side of the house. I hope you guys have a good weekend no matter what you decide to do. So long as a/c is involved, it'll be good!
