Happy Monday all! I hope y'all aren't melting in the heat because it is MISERABLE! Today we are going to apparently break records from the heat and be at 100 with heat index way higher. Yay. This will be me for the next week:
We went to my second cousin's graduation party. I purposely wanted to arrive about 45 minutes later than the start time. You don't want to get wrangled into setting up, babysitting, etc and that happened to people arriving earlier from what I heard so smart call on my part. Also everyone is always chit chatting and we knew if there would be food it would be about the time they'd be eating...right again. We already ate so we were good to go and then shocked the sh*t out my family when we walked in. Final goal: ✔
The grad immediately popped up and came over to hug us and be a good hostess which was so cute. She's always been a very sweet kid but also a little badass. She was the only wrestler on an all boys team and I think football too and she's a tiny little thing. She spent much of her childhood body slamming her cousins. 😂 It was nice to see family and chatted with cousins I don't get to see much. It was hard because Mom should've been there. I could picture what seat she would've been in and she would've been happy to see us. Sigh. It feels like every family event we attend is going to be bittersweet. I have to thank Mom and Grandma who had to have worked the reason grandma's husband couldn't be there so that we could go in peace. I didn't even
consider he would be there until mom's sib mentioned why he wasn't. Social crisis averted. As we were walking out, I got a sign from Mom so I think she was happy we went. We grabbed dinner later, watched
Secret Admirer from the 80's since neither of us saw it and that was about it for the night.
An interesting side note, at least to me. I was talking to one of my mom's sibs and said how we try to see where there are famous graves on road trips. I got side eye like I was some kind of weirdo for wanting to pay respects to entertainers who made us laugh, cry or brought us happiness. I said how we stopped by Paul Lynde's grave on our road trip last weekend and they were like "oh I remember him!" and then it led to a side story and we all ended up cracking up. Moral of the story, any of you reading this are too old to give a shit about what others may view as 'odd' just because they don't do it. Own your hobbies and the things that make you unique. It doesn't matter if other people 'get it' or not. Before I would've felt a bit of shame for sharing it and never shared anything like that again. Now? I don't care. Y'all do things I don't do or don't have any desire to do and I'm not going to give you side eye for it. I'm done self shaming for being me.
Apparently 2 hours of socializing takes a lot out of us because Sunday was nothing more than a recharge day. Unfortunately the heat from the previous day completely fried the flowers on the fence wall. I did a deep watering to try to revive them and by the day's end, it thankfully worked for the most part. So I will definitely need to water anything with the
coconut coir liners daily. I can't use those watering bulbs because I just saw someone's pic on Amazon about how they used theirs in the same type of planter and it caught fire! 😳 Well, we're on a wood fence attached to my neighbor so that shot that idea. Next year I will have to use the
water storing crystals I used back in 2020 since those are just flowers and not food. I think you have to mix it with the soil though and it's too late on that big one. The little planters are just sucking this year no matter what I put there. I have never had such bad luck with impatiens in my life. I usually plant them, and forget and they thrive. These are like "oh you actually WANT it this year. Sorry ah!" We watched a bunch of tube and because we're both really effed up in our necks from last week's strength, we just took a rest day instead of working out. We'll start that back up today and roll with the softball before and after because it really sucks not being able to turn your neck!
Hope everyone stays
hydrated, cool and check on your older friends and neighbors!
What did you do this weekend?

I'm glad we got the chance to go and yes that was definitely one time where being fashionably late really paid off. It was weird how tired we both got after that but having a rest day helped.
ReplyDeleteMe too and yes it did. I think our social batteries are old. 😆
DeletePerfect timing on the party! I had a pretty solitary weekend. Errand running and a few small tasks at home. 2 naps each day lol!
ReplyDeleteHighlight of weekend was getting Elmer a kiddie pool!
Have a great week!
I bet he loves that with the heat!
DeleteYou are right...it was HOT! I was on a mini vacation during that heat and one day I looked at my friend and said "I think my internal organs are cooking."
ReplyDeleteI also like to visit sites of graves of famous people...it wasn't a grave site, but I did just this week visit the site of where Hank Williams was discovered dead. But that said, I also just like to walk through graveyards. I think they are peaceful and I love to imagine the lives of the people that lived in them.
😂 yep cooked organs about summed it up.
DeleteI'm glad to know we're not the only ones who visit famous graves/ pop culture interest sites. We do the same with cemeteries. There's a great famous one in Savannah Georgia that has amazing old stones and if you're ever in Sleepy Hollow NY, go to the cemetery there for the night lantern tour and don't miss stopping where the Ramones filmed the Pet Sematary video!
