Summer Holiday Weekend Recap

Hello and happy Monday to you!  Did you melt this weekend?  My Lord it was hot.  And what do you do when you're us on a hot weekend?  Dig out a tree obviously.   😑   Remember the pic of the tree from last week after the landscapers hacked it up? It went bye-bye.  We were going to attempt to save it to possibly see if my friend could plant it at her new home (even though it should be done when dormant.)  Well, after determining the roots attach to the Earth's core, we had to scrap that idea.  We tried to get out early enough but it wasn't.  We hacked off the top in sections using some really great pruning shears that made that job super easy then the Mr lobbed off the top so we could begin on the roots.  We bought a shovel called the Root Slayer and I will say it did an amazing job getting through most of it.  Neither of us are at our strongest right now so despite knowing we could've continued with chipping away at ...

Yay or Nay?

Every year, just in time for you to start getting seasonal yearnings for more fruits and veggies, they release the "dirty dozen" list of produce that has the most pesticides.  While I know organic produce still uses some deterrents, I do try to buy organic when possible for produce and as much as possible for everything else too.  From eggs to meat to baking ingredients.

So, that got me wondering...

Do you buy organic?  If not, do you wash your produce with a solution or run it under water and hope for the best?

  1. I try to get the organic green lettuce for my salad and always wash it really well, with at least 2 good rinses and soaks, in the salad spinner. Even some of the pre-washed lettuce I will put an extra rinse on myself because I don't trust machines to do that properly.

  2. Regular produce with a water rinse. I'm a loner Dottie, a rebel.

  3. Generally, I'm too cheap to buy organic. So many of my fruits and veggies need to be imported and by the time you put on the premium for organic (if it is available) I can't justify the expense. And when it comes to washing, I'm a run it under the water and hope for the best kind of girl. A little dirt can do you good. :)

  4. It depends on the fruit if I buy organic or not. I rinse everything anyway... but then wonder what's in the water. LOL
