What I'm Reading This Week #18

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to May.  We had a long week of getting the garage together so the Mr could finally park in it six weeks later.  We still have some work to do in there as far as purging and such but we needed to get the space useable again since it's been a holding tank for our old countertop/sink, old grill waiting to be picked up by a friend, insulation, built planters and patio table and extra fencing from critter cages.  We haven't had the mental drive to figure out how we get the shelves in order.  I think I'm going to have to look up some garage organizing articles or something because it's really overwhelming to look at it all.  If we can get a plan together to tackle it then maybe we'll have our weekend plans for next weekend as long as it's not hot yet because we don't want to be in a sweatbox. Hump Day Poll: Asking for A Friend




There is no doubt many have been affected in different ways over the past 10 months.  I had a reader reach out after their spouse needed to start a job hunt asking how the Mr went about getting his new job.  He moved within his company and landed an interview after beating a computer algorithm which doesn't really translate well to job hunting tips.  

It's a whole new ballgame for those in their 40's and 50's knowing how to navigate getting your foot in the door these days.  Unfortunately, I felt I wasn't able to give much help on how to deal with the new landscape of job searching.  

So I turn to you to see if you have any suggestions.  I come from the age of update your resume, fluff up your skills a bit and hope for the best.  Somehow I don't think it has the same effect it did when the Mr had to do it 15 years ago.

Any tips for someone in their 40's and 50's out job hunting for the first time in years?

    Definitely checkout "Ask a Manager" by Alison Green. She offers great tips on resumes, cover letters, and interviews.

    Make sure their LinkedIn profile is up to date and connect with as many headhunters as possible. I just got a cold call off of my profile from a headhunter looking to staff a senior technical role.
